24:20 I have a new found appreciation for showman engines, seeing them working as intended. Even better is that the Rundles one is local to Charles and one of our customers at work
1:30 ive been to exactly 1 of these shows before, it was only about half the size of this one but they are the easiest shows to get distracted and lost in. pIt took me an hour to find the steam engines (the whole reason i went there) simply because of the tractors and other old farm equipment that they had driving around the whole event all day. Someone would take their little hit n miss tractor out and do a lap of the grounds and before they could even back it back into their spot someone else was off doing a lap to show off. Coolest event of any kind that ive ever been to, not a single boring moment.
I very nearly came down to see this show (on the Sunday) but a two day school reunion right before it burnt me out! I'm guessing it was well attended this year as - we all know (?) - there was no Great Dorset this year.
Great videos these, and such interesting content - thanks Lawrie. It's good to see the huge attendance at these fairs. I'm sad for the all the people who did a magnificent job for so many years and gave so much pleasure to so many at the GDSF - culminating in the magic fifty and my second visit. The size of these fairs indicates that the steaming tradition will go on, even if the GDSF has met its end.
HI Lawrie glad you had a good day at the show. I went to Shuttleworth college from 1976-1979 and was educated due to the Clayton and Shuttleworth steam engines. We had this show at Shutts a few years ago. caroline
My man go to Dordt in Stoom, you'll love it. They got steamtrains, steamships(big ones too), steam road machines, model railways, music, machines at work making things, harbours being turned back in time, etc, etc. It's unique and you need to go there. It's the biggest event in Europe. In 2022 a quarter of a milion people attended this event. It's free to go there. When i say it's a city full of steam i mean that. You missed this year, next chance will be in 2026. Many British machines attend as well, it's alway great fun to chat with people from all over Europe. Warm greetings from the Netherlands!
what a fantastic video with great narration showcasing the wonder of a steam rally, I do believe there is nothing better than steam rallies, they are my happy place!
What a fantastic looking show. Have told my dad he would enjoy going to this show to see all of these steam engines, tractors, trucks, cars and other items. Noticed in the tractor line up a made in your part of the world a early Ransomes triple ride on lawnmower.
Lovely footage, full of mechanical delights! If I was a rich man, I would have difficulty deciding between a Fowler, Scammell or Foden. Something very enjoyably British about your video. Many thanks, much appreciated, and best regards from Germany!
I wish somehow we could get you a Stanley or Doble steam car. By the late 20s, they looked much like a standard period car. Apparently, GM was still experimenting with steam cars as late as 1969. Maybe one of the steam busses Doble built for Aukland N.Z.? Oh, how many spotted the Rolls-Royce Silver Ghost parked by the roadside when the Fowler non Showman rode by.
A lovely bit of cinematography, I could almost smell the soot and heat. I live close to the fair but couldn’t make it this year, looks like i missed a good one 👍
14:09 I remember going to a show and seeing not one but two Minneapolis Molines, stretched and with Allison V-1710s under the hoods. Should look and see if I still have the photos laying around somewhere. I think my favorite steamers are the Averys with the underslung engine. They have a traditional loco-style cab and look a bit like roadgoing...well, fieldgoing steam locomotives for it. Also built here in Peoria.
That green goddess in the army tan is fairly rare as it’s an army variant as been fitted with an extra Locker back left total of 150 ish built and I think down to single figures left either way a lot less compared to the home office ones built for the AFS
The U.K. and the U.S. are very different when it comes to the division of labor of steam tractor crews. In the U.K, you have one person steering, and another person doing everything else. In the U.S, you normally have a fireman and a driver, much like in a locomotive. Admittedly I've only driven and fired a steam tractor once, but I've seen other crews working, and it looked pretty similar.
Hi At this rally two tons of South African coal was given to the engine drivers to try out as the Welsh coal will be finished soon ,It appears that this S A coal was good and only gave more ash .
Its really irritating I live in the south of the UK. Most of the big steam events are at least 2 hours drive away, so we can't go to the big ones. That said, there are a few within about an hour
Lawrie NO, no and no on more tractors - not until you have your other two tractors finished and working and at shows like this - then we might fund you more money to get another tractor
I like how there was a miniture traction engine replica hauling a trailer with a wiener dog.

Moving machinery and uncontrolled pedestrian traffic always scares me to death . Some beautiful machines their Laurie
They are very slow, and very loud
@@lmm agree, but it wouldn’t happen in the nanny state of AUS 😂

I love traction engine rallies, I used to love the night time with the showmans engines outside the beer tent. Fond memories.
And a reminder to all who missed the show., this year the Bedford Rally is back to its old stamping ground at Old Warden.
there's honestly nothing like wandering around the rally site the morning before the rally
Great fun Lawrie, great fun.
That looks so fun! When I retire I want to travel to see an event like this. We don't really have showman engines. Thanks for bringing the show to us!
reminds me of the dorset steam fair. fair ground at night time, music, lights engines everywhere. just awesome.
What a fantastic steam fayre. Absolutely brilliant. Recognised a lot of the traction engine makes. Thanks for showing.
Glad you enjoyed it!
@lmm will you be at this year's show?

11:30 Q: "How does your vehicle change direction?"
A: "A Lawrie Power-Steering System."

Hopefully I can make it to one of these some day, looks like great fun! Thanks for sharing Lawrie.
Looks fantastic, Especially as the night rolled in
Because Of You,I began liking Road Steam Engines more and more. Thank You! Anyways,Nice vidoe,Lawrie.
That's awesome!
@@lmm Indeed. I am planning to go to a steam rally myself. It's in Castle Combe.

Might just be the right engine that is called Major Bob.
@@kilianortmann9979 yeah. you are probably right

Shows like this remind me of the old movie, "Iron Maiden."
Damn, I forgot about it, was going to go as its local.
I want a miniature traction engine, awesome.
I went to this event with my Morris minor its such a shame I didn't see you I would have come say hi your one of my favourite UA-camrs
Sorry! Hope to catch you at another event
@@lmm hope so!
Lawrie in locomotive land 😁👍
TY🙏🙏

There was a mix given out I believe. I think we were in ovoids.
That’s my uncles sawbench and yellow matador!
It's proper cool! I wish I'd recorded it working
you might see it again it often takes part in steam rallies around the Bedfordshire and Buckinghamshire area!
The only time I see Lawrie selling the fire engines he has would be to buy a Traction Engine
I wouldn't sell Jupes for anything
I was there and didn't see him 😢
Still not enough steam engines.
I'll try and improve the ratio for the future
He saw all this and didnt notice the oldest working burrell in existence? 😂
I want to spend my life on one of these. If you know anyone giving one away, put me on the list 1st.
😂😂
Has Lawrie ever seen those videos of the stream traction engines absolutely destroying diesel modern of the time tractors in a pulling contest?
Yep!

Copyright fairground music...what a load of Tosh!!!
But I understand why you had to move. Ridiculous
The organ is fine, the rides blasting out the classics of 'Sweet Caroline' and such not so much!
@lmm it's a sad money driven world we live in my friend. But nevertheless, and as always, thank you for recording your great day.
