      It is too early to tell. I like both tools a lot. I love having multiple scanners. That way if I run into a situation like I did with these 2 Toyotas, I can always try a different tool and hope it works! I am actually looking into purchasing myself an Autel Maxisys tool shortly here. So, i'll have all 3 to compare.

      It's a valid statement. All of the other auto manufacturers have EVAP systems that are much more simple compared to the over complicated Toyota designs. Interestingly enough the simpler designs work great, hence the comment.

    Mike, very well done. Quick Question. in this intrusive late model system, reference 1:09:19 in this video, when bypass valve is closed(normal state) does Fuel tank side connect to vent valve(normally open) OR Vent valve is not on fuel tank side. I assume fuel tank side is connected to vent valve when bypass valve is closed.
    Also when pressure is building up in Fuel tank because of warm or hot day and vent valve is open. I see that pressure will leak thru vent valve and FTP will not read pressure at all, because vent valve is open. should not ECM command vent valve to close to read fTP fuel pressure. But if you look at 1:09:19 video, pressure build up even though vent valve is open.

    • @GoTechTraining
      @GoTechTraining  4 роки тому

      Hey Sivaraj, thanks for watching! The system is normally sealed up. The FTP reads the fuel tank pressure that will increase or decrease depending upon external influence. The bypass opens and connects the tank to he rest of the system to check for leaks. On this system you should hear pressure release when removing the gas cap.

    Got 4 code combination I believe all related to EVAP on 2010 Lexus RX450h:
    P0441 - EVAP System Incorrect Purge Flow
    P1421 - Evaporative Emission Canister Gross Leak
    P1423 - Fuel Tank Gross Leak
    P2450 - Fuel Vapor-Containment Valve Stuck Open
    I've replaced fuel cap to the new one and I don't think it's leaking fuel anywhere (there's no odor or anything). Where should I start troubleshooting?

    • @GoTechTraining

      Hey Mr. Yabe, I don't know of any engines the open the purge with just the key on, engine off. During idle and driving conditions the PCM will pwm the purge open. This open amount depends on the load of the engine and the presumed fuel vapor capacity in the canister.

    • @GoTechTraining
      @GoTechTraining  5 років тому

      Hey Casey, that's a nearly impossible question to answer. A p1600 is related to an ECM power failure. Could be wiring, could be an ECM issue. It should be properly diagnosed. It could take 5 minutes, an hour, or 8 days to figure out. Best bet is to go to a reputable shop and trust them until they give you a reason not to.

    • @GoTechTraining
      @GoTechTraining  7 років тому

      Hi Allen, most EVAP smoke machines are calibrated to put out about 1 PSI...you don't want to be putting in much more than that. Over pressurizing could lead to solenoid or FTP damage.

    Mike, Excellent video. I'm not sure if you monitor new comments on a video this old but I have a question. When you were describing code P0441for the Intrusive system at 1:02 section of the video you mentioned it sets P0441 if vacuum is too high during purge flow. What does vacuum too high indicate? I have a 2001 Lexus with this issue. Where should I be looking for an issue with this car? During my evap test with my Snap on Solus scanner I get to step 5 of my test and the scanner says vacuum too high. I'm not sure what is supposed to happen for the ECU to determine this. This vehicle has a new OEM canister assy and continues to show this error during testing.

    • @GoTechTraining
      @GoTechTraining  5 років тому +1

      Hey Charlie, thanks for watching! I do my best to answer every comment/question that is asked. I have run into this before, sometimes its a software issue with Snap-On. First, verify the vacuum is high. Pull the gas cap and see if you hear that woosh. This system should hold some vacuum, but not too much. The relief valve should allow it to escape if it gets too high. Also, take a peek at the fuel tank pressure sensor. Make sure it reads 0 with the gas cap off.
      Mike Becker, Senior Technical Instructor

    • @chasruss212r
      @chasruss212r 5 років тому

      Hi Mike, I was shocked to see that you replied, I really appreciate it. I've watched this video multiple time in order to understand the intrusive system that I'm having trouble with. I will eventually find and fix this issue of the recurring P0441 code, but it's been a struggle. I think the ECU is seeing a rise in vacuum in the system when the purge valve is commanded closed, but I'm not sure. I found conflicting information from different sources, one says this code is triggered when pressure in the canister doesn't drop during purge, and the other source indicates the code is triggered if vacuum didn't drop during purge "or" if the vacuum increased beyond a specified limit. I think this high vacuum could be my issue?
      I can understand not being able to build vacuum due to a leak in the system, but the vacuum too high is questionable and vague. As I previously mentioned, I can only suspect a purge valve not turning off when commanded to after the system is put into vacuum being the cause of a high vac reading, thus triggering P0441?? I've also reached out to technicians help community for additional info but haven't learned anything different thus far.
      If you come up with anything further please let me know.

    • @chasruss212r
      @chasruss212r 5 років тому +2

      I finally determined the ECU was at fault causing my P0441 code. I installed another ECU and the code hasn't returned since. The evap monitor has also run and passed. What a nightmare, but it's fixed.

      Hey Phil, there's an age limit to being qualified? I spent almost 10 years in the shop professionally, at both the independent and the dealer level. I am also Master and L1 ASE certified. Age and shop experience, in my opinion, are not what make a technician or a trainer great. I've worked with a few people over the years with 20+ years of shop experience, sure they had a ton of stories of the good ole' days, but they weren't very good with electrical/diagnostics. Real life shop experience doesn't teach that. A yearning for knowledge and growth does. So the real question is, did you enjoy the class, have you learned something in your time spent here?
