Victory! I took that spring off mine too, but in retrospect, I probably should have left it on since it helps the bar to "float" over the ground and not drag so hard, but if it works, no need to change it up. I'm about to where I could mow my pasture, but I don't want to yet since there's blown up car parts all over at the moment lol. Thanks for the video! Good luck mowing!

I took the spring off the parts one, I intend to put it on the good one I just need to get a new bolt for it. I did get the other bolt out though so that is good.

Many don't know but if you secure the arms of the three point to the rear axle housing, and come out of the bottom of the hydraulic pump to the side underneath where there is a plug using a fitting. Then you will have hydraulic lift for the sickle bar.

John Deere makes / made a kit to hook up a #5 to a Ford 9N's, 8N's, and other Fords

Really enjoy your channel and videos which I just found today while recovering from Covid. I also have a 48n and John Deere #5 which I had never thought about mounting on the ford. I have 2 John Deere B tractors which I use one of them to pull the sickle bar. Id like to see a close up of the way you have it mounted on your Ford so I could do this myself. Thanks

Unfortunately I no longer have the Ford 8N but if you check out this video ua-cam.com/video/ZXVK4M0uIj8/v-deo.html It shows how its hooked up a little bit. Hope that helps!

You need to put that on your A john Deere and get a Ford 501 mower for the 8n

Well I am working with what I have. I really don’t need another mower either. Thanks for watching!

it’s kinda odd that you just have another mower laying around

I bought it at an auction last fall. I knew I would need parts.

It’s actually very common to have an additional parts machine laying around when you run old equipment because parts are not always easy to come by

@@HumbleAcres Why do people not understand the point of "working with the things you have" concept? I have seen the manual for the JD #5 mower, they had brackets and such to connect it to all different manufacturers machines! You made it work, and in a later video got the hay cut. Did jon hair volunteer to come out of troll land and cut your hay for you with the "proper mower made for that tractor"?

@@Jethrosgarage Glad you understand. In my next video on Wednesday I am including a picture that shows it hooked up to a ford tractor.
