Man, Joan Jett was so badass. Everyone kept saying “no no no, girls can’t play rock and roll” and she gave them a fat middle came out on stage blew that gate wide the fuck open. I don’t consider myself a huge feminist or anything, but as a musician I’ve got a lot of respect for people who get out there and express themselves regardless of how many people say “no, you can’t do that”. And in many ways she opened the doors for many of my favorite female artists and I think she’s one of the most important figures in modern music history.

I met an Asian student new to America in 1982. He painted extraordinary water color paintings that were next level. He knew very little English when he arrived but he made many friends because he could sing this song word for word. In 7th grade, that was EVERYTHING. Gar Leung, I'll never forget you living your American Dream & loving this song !!!
