- In an effort to showcase other artists and the projects they are working on, I wanted to start a new series showcasing zines from the community. In each episode I will share 3 or 4 zines from my personal collection that I feel are worth checking out.

My name is Nick Mayo, I am a Michigan based film photographer and creative sharing my triumphs and struggles within the world of art and photography. I have a great number of videos lined up for sharing different things I've learned along the way in my creative journey, as well as some interviews with other creatives and influencers about their joys and struggles within the industry.

It truly inspired me too, just the way Jacob portrays that rawness of New York, whilst executing it in such a way that it becomes this innovative piece is incredible.
Would be nice to have more zine reviews/spotlights on youtube like this.
I considered sharing my collection of art zines in the same style, who made it, where to get it, talk about how much I like it.
Never made a full photo zine myself but it's on the to-do list, cool stuff. Cheers.

Hi Nick. That was unexpected. You may not have Volume 2 if I can lay my hands on one I will pop it in the past. I am working on volume 4 in the background. my large format project is taking most of my spare head space. Thank you so much for the kind words. They are kind of available but don't really have a proper way of selling them yet, I have some in a gallery in the Lewes, UK. but if anyone is interested DM me on Instagram. Martin, amazing work!!! And your zine format is simply gorgeous. Do you print and assemble them yourself? Looking into making zines myself, and would love to play with that format.
Tony Barrera hi they are just simple 6x4 prints ordered on line I put 2 images on one print . In the uk they cost about 6p each. Then I sit for hours with my rotatrim . And that’s it. I have made a template in lightroom to easily output the pairs of prints. Have fun . M

Nick Exposed the large format project is going well. But maybe not as planned . It’s amazing how you visualise things and then it’s not quite possible in reality, or maybe not with the skills I have at the moment. I have started a scrap book with prints of everything I shoot it will be interesting to see where we end up. I popped volume 2 in the post yesterday. My challenge is time at the moment, just so much to do and very limited time. All the best Martin
That definitely seems to be the challenge of life on my end as well. This weekend was over before I knew it, and yet the to-do list is still quite lengthy. Perhaps one day we will get caught up? Or maybe this is just the life of a creative thinker, always new ideas to be had. Thanks Martin! I look forward to seeing what you come to with your large format work!
What a great new series Nick! I’ll definitely look into getting some of the ones still available ... I’m looking at making a zine soon just trying to really think about what project and witch approach I’ll take. Very inspirational, keep it up!

I like the idea of pairing different photographs based on style or topic. One spread featured a bright subject on a dark background and the facing page had a dark subject on light background. The map-zine format was very clever and there is something very engaging about spreading out the photos like a deck of tarot cards on the table in front of you. Did you think about how the different the physical presentations of these zines contrasted when you chose to feature them together or was that a happy accident?
Geoffrey Barss I definitely considered the different presentations when choosing these. I want to show a variety of concepts within these videos. I’m glad it came across well.

Great video. I recently began a zine for the sake of adding personal design projects to my portfolio as well as highlighting my writing abilities.
I complete one zine so far on the subject of productivity and completing a second one on economics.
That’s awesome! So you do written content with them as well? Are you a journalist student?
Nick Exposed Most of it is written content, but my degree was in visual communications, so it includes design.
I’m in advertising largely, so I try to make sure my writing capability is there to cross sell my abilities for copywriting.
Overall, my main reason of doing this was for fun.

Zerihun Hailu I’m so glad you were able to get a copy of the allft zine! I think it’s going to sell out real soon.
As far as printers. I’ve covered it in the zine series but I highly suggest you look into local print shops around your area. They can do it much more cost effective than most online print houses, and you will have much more flexibility when making changes and choosing paper types and print styles. I hope that helps.
