Hello, I bought the patch collection and loaded it in the FM8. However, I can not identify the Blade runner sound in the collection. (Maybe FM8 converted the sounds erroneously). May you tell me the name of the "Blade runner" patch, please?
Yup, I was always met with skepticism that I used my DX-7 back then .. I had the most amazing analog pads and was considered one of the best sound designers on DX-7 in many magazines.
Well done. I've been telling people for years that my TX802 can sound really analog and they scoff until they hear it then they get on Reverb to buy one. Beautiful demonstration and playing!
Thank you very much 😃 It's definitely capable of creating a large variety of sounds. Good to hear you've been doing some FM synthesis missionary work 😉 Keep it up 👏
So proud to once again be working with Yamaha FM synthesizers! Just purchased about two weeks ago a DX7ii off Reverb and can’t get away from its iconic grasp
Do you have any suggestions for a nice controller for a Tx802 ? I’m using CTRL for my DX7 and D-550 but still looking for a good one for the Tx-802. Thnx in advance!
Freaking amazing! I hate how people just think of the DX7 as something for the piano sound or some of the other famous presets. I mean, i know *why”, but it was capable of SO much more
@@BenjaminDehli Yamaha was advertising their FM back then as being able to produce any sound imagineable. And whoever is looking for proof of this claim has to look no further than this video of yours. So well done, Sir, so well done!
Impressive programming. I think that's the best sound I've ever heard out of a DX7. Of course using a ton of reverb makes all the difference. But that's also true for the original sound from the CS-80.
Wow! Thank you so much 😃 I wasn't sure if I should upload it dry/direct to better hear the DX7 patch or with echo and reverb to be more comparable to the original, so I included both 😁
@@BenjaminDehliI’m glad you did. Helps to show the true character of the patch and what you’re doing with the modulation envelopes. I’m also impressed that you got decent volume and low noise out of an OG 7. They tended to be meek and hissy. Although when cranked through the right preamp, they could bounce you out of your chair.
That is on par with a Brian Eno patch we used on "Paintbox" (Tragic Venus). Our engineer knew Eno's keyboard tech - patches were exchanged - and the result was the most analogue sound out of a DX7 I'd ever heard.
Excellent work! I've said for ages that a DX7 in the right hands can do wonders. Even better, 4 or 8 DX7s stacked (a la TX816) and slightly detuned from each other... absolutely massive sounds!
I used to have an 816 and with the parallel operators and some detuning you could get earth shaking tones with incredible width and depth. Nothing sounds like it.
Bravo. As a serious DX7 lover, I will always defend the sonic capabilities of the DX7 and its FM descendants. It's actually quite easy to make classic analog tones with simple algorithms. Of course, it's even better at harmonically complex tones that only FM can do.
I've had a DX7 between 1983 and 2005 and this sound is just amazing, even without the added effects. And with a lot of reverb everything sounds like a CS80 with a lot of reverb :-)
Gorgeous patch! Vangelis ironically used lots of FM synths later on, being a big Yamaha fan in general. He used an SY77 on a lot of stuff, and that is a bit 6 op FM engine with wave sample rom mixed in for hybrid tones.
Sounds awesome! Well I was lucky enough to get my hands on the old analog beasts. I didn't really like the DX-7, but the stacked sounds of the racks with various DX7s showed the potential. Just a little chorus for lush pads plus some reverb and it sounds fantastic. The rest is programing (not as easy as on an analog synth) and pkaying. Great stuff!

Masterful patching. I know my my TX81Z can produce warm, evolving pads so I am not surprised, but I am impressed. You got some really big sounds going here.
You can feel the digital personality of the DX7, but rendition Is beautiful and can be anyway used in a concert, being compact and versatile. TX802 can be a juicy alternative due his politimbricity!
Nicely done 👍. The long feedback algorithms (4 & 6) get overlooked as they can progress into noise quickly, especially algorithm 6. Many forget the carrier doesn't have to be at 99 for output level. You can finesse the harmonic balance of the main saw wave from the OP5&6 pair by playing around with a lower OP5 output and higher OP6 level at a given feedback.
Excellent ! This got me wondering if an expression pedal could be used to alter the attack. Cuz some notes I noticed needed to attack faster, but most were right, as is.
Thanks a lot Michael 😃 You can connect an expression pedal, but only for volume and modulation as far as I know. Yes, the attack time on the original score is sometimes faster, but also sometimes slower, so I used an attack time that is somewhere in the middle 😉
Now I'd like to hear a CS-80 do a DX-7 electric piano. 🙂 I've come to the conclusion that the main reason why we don't hear more of patches like these, or that we had to wait 40 years for them (I've also heard French horns, and a really food acoustic piano) is that it's virtually impossible to tweak some knobs and find pleasing sound as a happy coincidence, as happens with subtractive synths.
