The Sahara Forest Project is a highly innovative approach to dealing with the pressing need for food, water and energy security in the Middle East's desert regions in the future. An international team from 12 different countries has contributed to the Norwegian funded project which aims to turn inhospitable deserts into flourishing food and power producing habitats. Pilot projects have been launched in Aqaba, Jordan and most recently in Doha, Qatar. Described as a mini-Masdar (referring to Masdar City in UAE), the project in Qatar demonstrates how Qatar is striving to raise its profile as a leader in solar energy. In this address, Norwegian CEO, Joakim Hauge, will give a presentation on the two Sahara Forest Pilot Projects, which are at the cutting edge of new energy technology and will describe their benefits for the region and the world.

Joakim Hauge is Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Sahara Forest Project. He was formerly an adviser in bioenergy at the Bellona Foundation in Norway.
