You guys really cant blame him for not knowing the meaning of the song, part of the reactions is him saying what the song meant to him, his interpretation of it. Whether its wrong or not.

I got this answer out of Matt's mouth personally. This song is about their original bassist. He attempted suicide.
part 1 is from HIS perspective. think of it as a suicide note (there's rumor parts of the bassist's actual note were used as lyrics, but it was too emotional for me to get direct verification). it's slow, soft, and beautiful. it represents him finally finding peace... through death.
The second part gets aggressive and angry, because it is from the point of view of his loved ones. it's a projection of the stereotypical "how could you do something like this to us? " the anger that people project onto suicidal people. They don't realize how selfish of a thought that is, and how it can actually drive someone to repeat an attempt due to the shame they feel.
both these songs are underrated. they are SO deep and SO well written!

Exactly. This is such a tragic song and he was acting like a clown all the time. This is the most heart wrenching song I've ever heard. It's one of my favorite Avenged Sevenfold songs, but I can't listen to it, because it makes me cry.

With crossroads, warmness on the soul
Part 1 is high on the list of songs that have given me permanent hearing damage because I couldn't get it loud enough.
Pt1 is a true masterpiece song, easily one of their best songs ever, I got tinnitus these days from always listening to albums like this one on max volume when I was a kid.
Part 1 is from Justin’s POV and what he felt and was dealing with, part 2 is the bands reaction to it and some of the anger and betrayal they felt.
Was just about to say this. Glad someone else knows the real story behind the 2 parts. 👌🏼

I remember being 16 years old driving with my cousin trying to get home after a party listening to this for the first time both of our heads just slowly moving and when he hits that part at then end we just looked at each other for a second and started FUCKING losing it headbanging Such a deep place in my heart.
As a man who just lost one of his heroes and best friends, you missed this song completely. I used to go to sleep to this song when I was in my teen years. I never knew why I loved it so much. I'm much older now and part one and two speak so many volumes for myself and the people who have had to deal with the pain of our friends and loved ones leaving us behind.

One of my favorite songs EVER ! That part " I've never lived in fear I knew I'll die another day... " til the end is a just mind blowing I get goosebumps everytime and I've heard it unhealthy amount of times.
Tbh this song was in my opinion the most impressive in terms of his vocal range.
@@kendonhubbard2828 Closely followed by probably So Far Away. He wasn't using a whole lot of his range in comparison to stuff like Sidewinder or Beast and the Harlot, but his *dynamics* and sense of overhanging emotion was simply incredible. Brent Smith-level vocals from Matt on that song.

It seems like I can only appreciate some of his vocal accomplishments in pieces of songs after hearing that piece or song 25 times over before I realize just how incredible he and his skills are.

@@MikeyFatts10 The Rev wrote a few riffs and had the violins added and put in some hip-hop beats, and there was a backing vocal, "I'm crying out louder and louder, but nobody can hear my screams" that was cut from the song. Those were his contributions. Jimmy had said "Shadows wrote some amazing lyrics that I think a lot of people can relate to." in the making of video for the song.

These songs hit me hard every time. When I was young I walked away from a friend who had similar issues, they took their life 3 months later.
The pain is real with every cord. I still regret not following him and being their to pick him up. Regardless of what it took!
You misinterpreted this one, Gibby. Part 1 is from the standpoint of Justin, read as the suicide note. Part 2 is the reply from Matt as if the death had happened. Listen again with that in mind and you’ll hear it differently.

I can’t wait for this! Part 1 is one of my most favorite songs! Makes me think of my buddy Ed that took his own life last year. He was a Veteran and suffered from severe PTSD. I also have it and can relate but these type songs give me some peace of mind

Way back when I was in my early 20's I was in a band and we had a bassist that despite being a fantastic player and being extremely creative with his writing had a problem with booze and dope however he always showed up to practice on time and was always in a giggly happy mood when he was all jacked up. He never stole from any of us and always brought fantastic pieces of music to the table. Upon us trying to write ideas together for a 3 song EP in our jam space at our vocalists house for a few weeks and everyone taking it serious to potentially make a job out of it and working our asses off to show up to practice twice a week dude didnt show up to practice randomly so we all 4 thought maybe ahit came up and he couldnt make it. Called him over and over and over left voice mails worried the worse we all decided to go over to his place to see what was up and yah his roommate let us in he passed away from an overdose the day before😥 damn shame he was a wonderful bassist.
Greg if your reading this from wherever you are, we miss you and think about you often. I wish you had came and told us you needed help man we wouldnt have kicked you out we knew you had a problem and you constantly blew us off saying you had it under control. I just wish you were here dude we could have been something...😥

This song helped me through one of the darkest times of my life. My late teens and early twenties were the worst. I was depressed most of my life, but just recently a couple of years ago I found peace. I'm 40 now, better late than never. Never give up.
Yes the rev played piano,but most piano/keyboard stuff was by M Shadows who plays guitar and drums as well ! There are a few video that show him playing these instruments! He actually wanted to play guitar and not sing , but they said "you are the best singer so you're it" ! Which obviously was a great decision!

A7X and Atreyu made up the Orange County metal core scene. Both came out about the same time. Early Atreyu is better in my opinion. But A7x has shown more range. Mainly bc Matt had to quit screaming for a few years.
4 of my favorite bands ALL hail from OC Cal, n around same time frame. All played at the chain reaction n such venues. A7X, Thrice, Death By Stereo n Atreyu!
