A little over a week ago I was sitting on the sofa editing the video I thought I'd post last Sunday. At the time though I wasn't feeling the video and something inside me was like, "April, I know it doesn't make much sense but STOP EDITING and start filming this video, You need to make these changes today." So I did, even though it completely disrupted my work flow... BUT I can't tell you how thankful I am that I did that. The little changes made my mind feel calmer and little did I know that my family's world would be turned upside down a few days later. (It's wild how your gut just KNOWS things before you do). Yes I would have survived if those pink bottles were still on the cabinet, but it was as if it created a zen space for a brain that was spiraling.
Last Sunday my dad was taken to the ER and still remains in the ICU, now in Dallas via air med. It's been a very hard week to say the least. It's now been a week and he's just waking from a procedure that will hopefully buy a little more time, but it's ultimately only a bandaid. And unfortunately it came with some very serious risks and consequences. To be honest, no one is sure what will happen from here, nor do we know the extent of the changes this will make for my mom or dad. If you're the praying type or the good energy sender, my family could sure use it 💛
I'm going to do my best to stay on top of my videos as best I can (I have some prefilmed that I still need to edit and post), but I apologize if I'm more MIA from comments, DMs and Instagram than I usually am. Life can be taken from you so quickly. Live it fully & remind your people daily that you love them. 💛
....If you also have any questions for me regarding moving and all those things, leave them below. That's an easy to focus on video for me to film which will be great right about now.

April take as much time as you need. I’ve been there, please make every moment count. My dad had heart disease and I miss him so. He had 20 more years because of modern medicine. But not enough for me. I am thinking of you all. Izzy made this video better of course. Her chasing the labels was soooo cute.
Best wishes for your Dad's recovery. As for sheets and duvet covers I'll never use anything but linen again. It looks good and rumpled in an intentional way and gets softer the more you wash it. I got my sheets from Ikea years ago and they're still going strong.
I love your black art, not only serves a purpose but seems relaxing to work with paint! Who cares what others think, they can go somewhere else if it bothers them! I love how you manage this space.. It's surprising how little things can really change a space. As someone who once lived in a bedsit for several months, I can definitely agree that keeping a small space tidy is a must for your sanity.

Izzy is so cute and funny! For sheets I find cotton percale sheets look better than cotton sateen - they hold up well in the wash and don't need ironing. Cotton percale feels crisp and cold whereas the sateen is silky (when ironed). Loving the look of the white fluffy towels. xx

I switched from Dove to Dr Bronners and no more pink. I think it's the phosphates that cause the pink. Kirk's is phosphate free also. 😊

I really appreciated the music you chose for this video. I took me back to being a kid in the 70s, and reminded me of my grandfather, GaGa.❤ He was musician who played the saxophone and clarinet. I don't know if you washed your new towels before using them, but you should always do that. It washed out...something, I don't remember. And, it helps them to actually absorb. I love it that you paint. Our creativity is very important to mental health. At least, I believe it does.
I highly recommend Brooklinen luxe sateen sheets and duvet cover. I’ve had mine for over 3 years (almost 4), and they’ve only gotten softer with each wash and are super high quality.
I was thinking during the whole video - and wanted to share the thought without coming across as heartless - so I was so happy you said the same thing in your comment. I was thinking - thank goodness April did this tweak of her space - put things right and adjusted those things which caught her attention and added items which make her feel more comfortable and welcome in her home - because it's like you were giving yourself a hug and turning your space into a constant hug - which you and Jackson need so much right now. Just the little tweak of ensuring the pretty outside covers the busy organisation going on inside the container - and wiping down the jug (my goodness they do get spattered and mucky!) and those lovely cushiony towels and pillows and tray and cup - changing out the cleaners into your special little bottles - all that I'm sure would allow you to be in your space and think more clearly and be comforted and find some peace in this current sea of fear and confusion.
I'm praying so hard for your dad and you and yours and want you to know we'll be here when you are ready to come back! All love out to you from this internet stranger from across the seas who is sending love and white light and praying for your family.
Thank you so much. I know it sounds silly to put so much emphasis on your space, but it really did help... even if just to keep a little calmer in a tangible way. And thank you... he was able to make it home and is slowly recovering, but it seems like there's still a mountain to climb and like things may never be the same again. But we're celebrating the small things right now and trying to stay hopeful. My family has lived there for decades and they're lucky to have such a great community of family and friends nearby to help them right now. I'll be sure to keep you guys updated as I know more. For now, it's just a waiting game.🙏💛

Collapsible silicone tupperware is always a good buy, we don't have many cupboards in our kitchen, and these are amazing they take up a very small amount of space. Definitely worth looking out for

Hello April and Margheritap 😊 i always use a Window squeeguee to clean muy cat's hair from any fabric-covered surface and i can totally say The results are a thousand times better than those of the vacuum cleaner. By the way, my cat's fur is completely black. ❤

I personally love The Black Artwork. And the fact that you had a version of it for many years shows that you know your style.
As for plants - ferns and marantas are cat safe, but they require high humidity to look good... Have you tried snake plants? They might be too hard for Izzy to nibble on and are very easy to care for. I even spotted some pretty Moonshines in Modern Home in this video :D
I could have sworn spider plants were toxic, but if they aren't (as I'm learning now) I'm pretty sure they're also good for purifying the air too which would be awesome!

I’m glad your dad came through the procedure. I’m sending positive thoughts to Korea and Texas. I love your videos that show Izzy! Weird, since my 3 cats are lying on me while I watch this. I do have a couple linen recommendations:
I found a company called Muslin Comfort and purchased towels, washcloths, and an over sized throw. LOVE the washcloths and the throw. The towels would be awesome except they are a weird size, too big for hand towels and a little too small for bath. I use them to dry my hair. I usually buy sheets and comforters from Target. I love the Casa Luna line. PS-Love any art that someone makes themselves.

For cat friendly plants you can get a snake plant (it isn't harmful to cats but it does make there tongues numb so they typically won't eat it) or some succulents like burro's tail, echeveria, ponytail palms and christmas cactus (succulents tend to not smell appetizing to pets so they don't tend to eat then and burro's tail is hanging plant so you can keep it out of the way of pet's too). Spider plants, prayer plants and a lot of ferns are cat safe as well.

Cozy Earth bamboo sheets are pretty amazing:). They also have blankets and duvets but have not tried them. Their products have a 10 year warranty.

Regarding cat friendly plants: I hate how all the best/easiest house plants are not cat friendly (like pothos, snake plant, zz plant etc). Spider plants are really cat friendly, but I would reccomend hanging from a ceiling or putting up high because if my cats had full access there would be no plant left cuz they'd eat it all. I also have some ferns, hawthornia, goldfish plant, and sedums out. The cats leave them alone for the most part (only chew on them when they want my attention, or sometimes sit on them when they want to look out the window). Hope that helps 😸
Cat friendly plants that don‘t mind at all to be eaten are chlorophytums, mine grow like crazy! Areca palms are usually bigger and chamaedorea look a lot like them but way smaller. Chamaedora are also known as cat palms 😊

Brooklinen is a quality brand of bedding. I have a set of flannel that Ste like butter. I just ordered a set of washed linen for summer that I’m excited about. What I love about the flannel fitted sheet is is fits on a pillow topped mattress and covers the corners completely.

I always amazed how well the black artwork turns out and question my love of colors when I see it. But at my age I can understand my love of wild bold print in decor is me just like your black art is you.
Cat mint and cat nip can both be grown in doors. Also wheat grass is a good choice. I read once but never tried to use part of a piece of lawn sod big enough for cat to lie out on. Put in tray to keep damp. Not choice for now but later. And Izzy makes the cutest bunny!
They also have silicone strip/dams to keep the water out that you can put down for the shower if it would make it easier.

The bottles make a big difference ❤
Kohl’s good old fashioned, 100 percent white cotton sheets with a decent thread count. They are crisp and clean feeling. No roughness. I do not recommend the softer as you wash them kind. Our family has put a hole right through the softer ones over time, when we slide our heel when we get in. Those soft ones just do not hold up.
I too only have white sheets and white towels. My Theory at the time was that way I would be able to add some whitener to them if they got dingy and I did not think I could do that with colored towels.
I have Brooklinen sheets in my guest room. They launder really well.

So sorry for your family ❤️. On a lighter note, sheets: The Company Store has “Company Cotton” Percale sheet sets or separate pieces if you like a crisp, never-clingy-or-pilly type of fabric. I’ve never tried their sateen. They are my absolute favorites and worth the price, especially if you catch a sale. They have duvet covers as well, but I got mine on sale at Crate and Barrel. In order to avoid the see-through, wrinkly duvet issues, I find something textured is better than a plain sheet material. The one I got (still pricey on sale) has a thicker embroidered- type striped texture- not sure how to describe it- and smooth on the back. Basically I looked for something that wouldn’t show wrinkles and was white but didn’t look like a sheet. Hope all this rambling helps. All the best to you and your family.

I did a deep clean on my 1 full bathroom yesterday!! It’s about as big as yours and was way over do. I have cats that like to drink from the tub faucet, I have health issues that can sideline me, and I just get overwhelmed! I put in some shower shelving and decanted my shampoo and conditioner into pretty labeled amber pump bottles. I was tired but very happy and my mind was able to relax. I’ve been through 3 major life changes in the past 10 years (recently 5 years) and I’m still struggling both physically and mentally to find my new normal.

I bought beach bliss (tencel) sheets three years ago and they are still perfectly silky and cool on the skin. I buy from a Canadian brand called Quilts etc.
I never comment and this isn't necessary considering everything that is going on with your family but get a floor squeegee. Just drag the water to the drain and no need for towels. Ikea has one! But seriously I am sending good thoughts for your Dad.

Vermont Country Store carries Portuguese cotton sheets(bright stripe percale set in one room) that are amazing. Garnet Hill is also good(Hable is wonderful). If I didn't already have the GH Hable sets I'd be greedy and snag a set from VCS🤪😁 We also have a flannel set from GH.
Hi April!! Love this video!! I have a couple of suggestions on pet safe plants. Any Money tree, spider plant, maranta (prayer plant), fern (but theses are sometimes hard to keep alive) and peperomia plants are safe and non toxic for pets. I would stay away from the “fun to bat” plants like the spider plant and ponytail palm due to its fun foliage that is easy to play with for a cat😊
i have a t-shirt saying "black is my happy color"so I'd say you're consistent not boring in your style ;-) I also have a black cat, my tux in the profile piccie was a trooper for 13 years and so was his sister (also a tuxedo). Ferns are ok for cats, so are those little palm trees, but cats will eat them, try sowing cat grass or buying cat grass. therés a lot of plants that are poisonous much like essential oils, catmint (nepeta) is for outdoors, but depending on your location it might like being indoors. def look up poisonous plants to cats. there's 100's

Something to try for your bedding issue. My hubby is allergic to our cat. I loathe sleeping with a top sheet, it always gets tangled in my legs. Lately I’ve been using the a top sheet on top of the duvet to protect it from the cat hair. It’s bigger than a duvet so you can tuck the pillows underneath like an old school bedding style. Might help with the duvet squares showing.
