So glad you discussed the appropriate book to begin with - especially for a first time reader!

As a book for children, the thoughts of an endless winter without Father Christmas, and therefore Christmas, helps to draw the reader into how desolate the situation is.

I feel like the fly on the wall listening to a discussion between two old friends. Such an interesting conversation.

    Amen concerning order.

Literary critics and historians aren’t much different than theologians, divining and defining the author’s intent without having actually met him. Read the stories in any order one likes, just read them.

Best of all for the first-time reader is to read them in the Author's preferred order. In this case Lewis did not want any first-time reader to jump to TMN even though this is about the Narnian Fall. He hadn't even thought about this when he wrote TLTWATW.

Better to jump in somewhere than to not jump in at all.
