Thank you! I would go with a 250/2500 series. I believe the Lance 650 was designed with a 150 specifically in mind and other truck brands who had the weight capacity. Lance is now making heavier 650s with even heavier extra options and don’t advertise the 150/1500 trucks as viable options.

Only downfall I have to say, is the shower floor lacks support and can crack. Tip for preventative measures, pop the vent cover off from the exterior shower wall, the one below the kitchen sink. Use a can of spray foam with about a 3ft hose attached. Fish the hose through the vent area towards the back of the shower area. Inject the foam for about 10 seconds, slightly pull the hose out, repeat injection for about ten seconds, so forth until the end of the hose is at the front of the shower. We did this to our 650 and it removed a lot of flex from the floor.
That is really good to know. I did notice it seemed to have a bit too much play when stepping on it. Have you had it crack before, or know people who did? That seems like a nightmare if it would crack
We beefed up our rear suspension a lot. Lance worked with Ford in designing this specific camper though. My understanding is that certain F150s are pretty much tailor made for the 650 due to the handling, payload capacity etc.
Awesome review, I had a blast from the comedy and solid presentation. Two women may be nice...but a comfortable solid poop runs a close second. Thanks....more please!!!!
Hey, I do like this video! Better than a dealer version, I did have the biggest toy hauler a T31, not a fifth wheel bumper pull, she kept it in divorce. I don’t need all that ! 13,900 pounds towing.. I also have a 20 foot enclosed trailer for the - toys - bikes and with this truck camper and trailer I should be a lot less of weight.. thanks again for the video you 2 are a good fun- funny.!! I’m on the East coast wanting to head out west 👍✌️✌️
Thanks! Yes, we watched videos of people or dealers showing empty trailers in the lots. We wanted to see them in use. That’s why we did this. You definitely had a big setup! We’re East Coasters too. The West is the undiscovered country!
Love that camper. Looks like your have a full size truck. I wonder if the ones that would fit in a smaller truck have a wet bath? Is it hard to handle truck with the height?.
😎✌️ you two are pretty cool. I’m looking at getting in a sliding camper. I live here in Florida. I have a beautiful 2020 Forest river Rockwood mini light.Try hard to give it up to put a sliding camper in my truck just so much easier. What do you think?
Thanks 😁 - man, I just looked up the layout of your trailer. Very nice! I think you just have to ask yourself whether you want to tow or not anymore. We both don’t like to tow things which is why we never got a pull behind. We used to do truck cap camping too but space (and comfort) became an issue.
Hey guy's loved your video and your funny too. Just wanted to know if you are driving a 1500 series half ton, and if you beef'up your suspension. Thanks Cheers.
Thank you! It is a 1500 and yes we definitely beefed it up - heavy duty shocks, airlift springs, sway bar, e-rated tires. Truck doesn’t even flinch when we lower the camper on it 😊
Thanks for the video! How well did the Ram1500 do with it and what type of gas mileage did you get? Do you still have it and any complaints a couple years later?
I don’t know exact numbers but the gas mileage went down quite a bit! We still have it and use it all the time. We wish it was more spacious - that’s the biggest complaint 😁
Thank you! There is definitely a lot to like about the camper, but we still have so much love for our truck cap. Some of the most unforgettable memories we had using it!
Quick question: Are you able to add any insulation to drown out the ambient noise? When you are in the camper as it is parked in front of your house, I hear cars/street noise but of course I imagine you will be using this camper in quieter settings to sleep? Thanks for the wonderfully informative video and safe travels!
I’m no expert, so I’m not sure, but I have heard of people adding insulation. They tried to make this model as light as possible but in doing so, it doesn’t drown out sound very well. And yes we live on an insanely busy road in New York. You can hear everything. In campgrounds it is pretty quiet though. The only place we had the same noise issues was a truck stop - we don’t recommend that either to sleep, unless you want broken sleep. 😁
Hi! We are going to be traveling Healthcare providers and looking at a set up like this! Seems perfect for us. Question: where do you store your Honda generator?
Great setup. As a suggestion to prevent heater failure, put a screen over your heater exhaust cause mud wasps will build their nests in the exhaust tube and all the way into the fan housing. I bought a used popup with same heater design and they had built nests in the tube and fan housing. I had to pull the unit out to remove their nests and it had caused the fan to run really slow causing fumes inside.
Love everything about your truck camper. My 6 month old kitten's name is Zeus. When you would say your doggie's name, my kitty would look at the monitor. LOL Thank you for sharing your new home with us. Take care.
Thank you! And too funny. Besides his name, there’s certain common words he pipes up to that we have to remember to spell out instead or he goes nuts. Animals are fascinating like that. You take care too!
Hey guys. Am hoping that you will do an update on your 650; mods, current likes/dislikes...what did you do with the bikes? I bought a 650 last year and we have done two trips thus far...we both like it a lot, but see ongoing mods and additions ...thanks.
Hello! That's great that you bought one! We didn't have a video in mind, but we did add/mod a few things, like adding child safety locks to the fridge and medicine cabinet. That has helped ALOT. We've been able to use our swinging bike rack, but it's a pain if we want to remove the truck from the camper, because we need to take the bikes and rack off for that to happen. So we've been using our folding bikes more too. We did add a cargo carrier to the hitch to store containers with our generator and gas when we boondock. It's been pretty busy since we bought it and we unfortunately haven't been able to buy as much extra toys like we hoped. Oh and I definitely plan to switch out the DC battery with a lithium one too
@@MagellanandGreyhound Thanks so much for your quick reply. Really appreciate you guys. I’m in the process of getting a front receiver put on which is where I plan to put my bicycles and or questionable a light scooter. I’m adding a solar panel and thinking about lithium that’s about a nine to $1100 investment would be interested in your thought process. I like the child latch idea. Anyway I know you guys are busy but an update video would be awesome. Feel free to reach out to me.
No problem! It's funny you mention the front receiver. That's where we were thinking of sticking our bikes too, so we can leave the back for the cargo carrier and not have such a hassle. There's a few Lance camper Facebook groups I sometimes read about solar/lithium batteries and that seems be the the common thing, to add another panel and replace the battery. I personally find the current DC battery to be ... acceptable, but since we are boondocking a lot more than we thought we would, its weaknesses have become more glaring. Same to you, feel free to reach out if you like via our email on our About page. More camper videos may not be near in our future, but we always like to ask/answer questions and talk with anyone.
We keep our bedding under the cover that came with the camper. It keeps it under and therefore no issues with the fridge. But beyond that - when the bed isn’t made etc - yes it’s a tight fit and sometimes we need to kind of push it down to open the fridge. It’s a minor annoyance at best though
It's a 3 season camper, so we usually don't camp with it. Stays warm when we do, but not having running water isn't as nice. Can't remember the MPG but it's terrible. I wanna say we get around 10-12, and it's 3-5 less than without the camper.
@@philrebekah4286 oh nice! You never know how long that bed will last! We did five years with it before surrendering haha - but the trip we are doing this fall would have utterly broken us. The Lance is to keep us sane for the super long trips. I think we made the right choice
@@MagellanandGreyhound I loved the 825 I’m going to get the 650 so I can use it on my new truck which is 1/2 ton. They say the 825 can go on a half ton but I don’t know about that.

No worries! A step up in some ways for sure, but not everything. Definitely hard to stealth camp out of this thing! We love Zeus and it was always so heartbreaking to not have him come with us. He wasn't the only reason, but he was probably the final straw. It's going to be nice and finally meet. You are a planner as much as us, so we will definitely let you know.
Is your truck bed a 6'4" bed? If so, did you have to sit the camper back from the front of the bed due to the underside of the rear part of the camper being exposed? Thank you
I think it's 6'6" - it's definitely not the 8" long bed. I'm not sure I exactly understand your question, but let me at least say this - the camper fits almost exactly from the front of the bed (by the cab) to the back of it with the tailgate removed. We have another video where we you can kind of see how the camper sits in the truck - ua-cam.com/video/7_e_oo-u7DA/v-deo.html - hopefully that could help. If not, just shoot us an email in our About Us page and maybe I can take some pictures to show you.
Ram 1500. Yes, all extra rear suspension. Sway bar, 1 ton shocks, airbags, e-tires. Truck barely lowers when we load the camper down 🤣 - my understanding is Ford trucks were tailor made for this though
@@gggusc11 yes, there was a battery that came with the camper (which is located under the dinette area). We recently upgraded it to a lithium since we boondock a bit.
Thanks for watching! So far so good. No leaks, no major issues. Just learning the little tricks - making sure it’s leveled perfect, not overtightening hoses, getting used to how fast the gray tank gets filled, etc.
@@MagellanandGreyhound It arrived at the dealership on Friday, 9/24! Hope to have it on my truck later this week. Can’t wait! We have done the same things you have done. Sooo excited 😀
Pretty smoothly. Our mechanic helped us beef up the suspension. Although we’ll be upgrading to a bigger truck because we want to tow stuff unrelated to camping ;)
I want to see how this truck handles on the road with the Lance 650. What did you add to the suspension from keeping it leveled as best as possible. We are purchasing the Lance 650 to get out on the road.
We heavily upgraded the rear suspension - heavy duty shocks, airlift springs and a sway (stabilizer bar), plus e-rated tires. We can fill/adjust the springs with two valves installed underneath our truck bumper. Other than going over the Mackinac Bridge into the UP on an abnormally windy day, everything has been super smooth and sturdy.
Hello Guys, just came across your channel, we Love our Lance 851, just retired a few years ago, Just bought a Ram 3500 to haul it. Nice Review, 🤣just Subscribed! 👍🏼🇺🇸
Oh man that looks like a nice one! We were torn over which model to get but since we were upgrading from a truck bed setup, the 650 was already a 1000% upgrade. It’s getting it’s maiden voyage in September for three weeks to really break it in!
@@wendydaggett3060 not this one. We have to winterize it. I believe different lance models offer four seasons camper. We still use the heat for any winter excursions but no water usage.
Good video guys. You showed things very well. It's nice to see a big company like Lance making a camper for the 1/2 ton pickups. I was surprised to see the frigerator in the bed area. I wonder about drips or spills onto the bed, opening the door if there is a thick comforter and whether or not the compressor cycling on and off through the night might keep a person awake. I guess with a smaller camper there were limited choices for placement of the refrigerator. Couldn't believe Lance cheaped out with a stove that you have to manually light . Come on Lance. I've heard that this model does have a walk-on roof. You guys have no ladder in the back for roof acces. Is that something that is an option ?
Thanks! We generally try not to put things that can spill in the fridge, but we use these retractable rods to prevent stuff from sliding during transit and so nothing falls when we first open the door. There is no compressor in the fridge - it's a coil system cooled via electric or gas. We hear nothing :) Not sure about the walk-on roof, but newer models of this may have them. We saw that the slightly larger Lance campers had ladders. We never had the option.
I'm in the process of buying a 650 Lance. I found a nice 2018 used one in the next state over. I have been looking at several video's to get to know the 650 better as I wait to pick it up later this week. Yours by far is my favorite. You guys are very informative and funny making it a real pleasure to watch and entertaining. We have a Tiffen coach for long and extended trips. I'm buying this one for mainly to use my self to use on short trips recreating around our state, riding and doing water related activities allowing me to go boondocking and fit into smaller more typical campground spots. We have two Yorkie's and a Yellow Lab which the Lab will be my main travel companion. I do have a question, what brand of tie down system do you use? I ordered a Torklift system but it will only work in the front with my 2022 Ford F 150 Tremor which has duel exhaust and factory tow hooks on the back. I'm going to start out using the Happy jack tie down on the sides of the rear bumper but want to use a more substantial mounting point. I noticed your Ram 1500 has duel exhaust so yours might work for me well. Looking forward to seeing more of your videos. Happy trails
Awesome! And thank you so much. We usually don’t make many videos about our setups, but they were very fun to make. 😁 and yeah, with how much the 650 is going for now, we’d get a used too. I think we lucked out on the timing to be honest. The tie downs we use are the Torklift Fast Gun. We’re not experts by any means so I don’t know if ours would work for you, but I’m pretty sure these are the ones we have. Torklift S9529 Fast Gun Turn Buckle a.co/d/imUW3uy - hopefully that helps!
Also - we have the tie downs going to these kind of hitches (if that’s the word) that the dealer installed. You can see them in the video at times but we never really focused on them. Not sure if that’s an option for you either
Thanks for all the detail! You've sparked a couple of questions for me. How come exhaust fans just pull the air straight up? If exhausted to the side then there could be more room on the roof for solar panels. Also, why not use a lithium ion battery that does not have fumes that need to be exhausted?
Thanks Steven. I'm pretty confused why they didn't just use a lithium ion as well. We're going to be switching out ours with one soon actually. As for the exhaust fans, that's a good question. I know these companies try to squeeze every available inch with something, but having another solar panel with the lithium would be a great upgrade.
The rear one over the door, thats what we've used it for, absolutely. The side one we have used more to sit underneath and relax when we wanted to dull the sun haha

I've considered getting one of these for my F150. I guess my question is how does your half ton handle it
We beefed up our rear suspension a lot. Lance worked with Ford in designing this specific camper though. My understanding is that certain F150s are pretty much tailor made for the 650 due to the handling, payload capacity etc.
Love humor. Very informative.
Thank you!
Thanks for the tour! What a great camper!
Thanks for watching! 🙏 we are loving it so far!
I LOVE this couple!
Thank you! 😁
This is the cutest and funniest RV review/walkthrough! Most importantly, it’s very informative
Thank you! We usually don’t make these kinds of videos, but it was very fun to make. I’m glad you found it informative - that was the real goal
LoL, what a neighbor!

Awesome review, I had a blast from the comedy and solid presentation. Two women may be nice...but a comfortable solid poop runs a close second. Thanks....more please!!!!
Haha thank you! As long as they aren’t happening at the same time … 😂😂😂
@@MagellanandGreyhound HaHa!..You know us "Man Animals"... 😂

I would say that the fridge in the bed with you is quite novel! I actually like the idea for midnight snacks!
Yes! and we keep dry snacks in the cabinet next to it. Easy access all around 😉
Excellent this what am looking for my future.
Awesome, glad to hear it 😁
Hey, I do like this video!
Prime begging real estate 😁gotta love a Yorkie
Hahaha yes! He is our second one. They are such a feisty breed 🤣
I subbed because the monster Zeus is friggin _adorbzZ_
We just finished playing whack-a-paw with him. He is absolutely adorbz! 😁
Super vid. Very thorough. Congrats to both of you!!
Thank you! 😁
Great Tour!
Thank you so much! Glad you enjoyed :)
Just found this and subscribed! I am still sleeping in my truck cap! Envy you lol!
Thank you! There is definitely a lot to like about the camper, but we still have so much love for our truck cap. Some of the most unforgettable memories we had using it!
I need to see it in person. When will y'all be in northeast Louisiana?????
No idea, but on our list of places. We have yet to visit the national park sites at Poverty Point and Vicksburg.
Hello! We have a hitch carrier that we use. Before that we kept it in a sealed tote in the truck cab.
@@MagellanandGreyhound thank you!!!
Whoa, that sounds terrible. We definitely don't want that to happen! Is there a specific mesh size you suggest?
@@MagellanandGreyhound yea, home depot employee
Love everything about your truck camper. My 6 month old kitten's name is Zeus. When you would say your doggie's name, my kitty would look at the monitor. LOL Thank you for sharing your new home with us. Take care.
Thank you! And too funny. Besides his name, there’s certain common words he pipes up to that we have to remember to spell out instead or he goes nuts. Animals are fascinating like that. You take care too!

I loved your tour and set up. Very thorough job and entertaining to boot!
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed. We tried to infuse some humor 😁
My truck is on a GMC Sierra diesel four-wheel-drive 1500
Do you have issues with the bed or bedding material interfering with the refrigerator door while opening it?
We keep our bedding under the cover that came with the camper. It keeps it under and therefore no issues with the fridge. But beyond that - when the bed isn’t made etc - yes it’s a tight fit and sometimes we need to kind of push it down to open the fridge. It’s a minor annoyance at best though
How is it for winter camping? What kind of MPG do you get on the freeway?
It's a 3 season camper, so we usually don't camp with it. Stays warm when we do, but not having running water isn't as nice. Can't remember the MPG but it's terrible. I wanna say we get around 10-12, and it's 3-5 less than without the camper.
When you mentioned Pink Floyd and Steely Dan, I immediately subscribed.
Safe travels!
Haha thanks. All of our videos used to have their music and others in the background, but were taken down for copyright. Safe travels to you as well!
Excellent choice!!
Thank you, we are loving it so far! Do you have or have had a Lance?
@@MagellanandGreyhound I don't have one yet😁
I just finished building a bed similar to what you had. We'll try that out for a season than get a Lance😁
@@philrebekah4286 oh nice! You never know how long that bed will last! We did five years with it before surrendering haha - but the trip we are doing this fall would have utterly broken us. The Lance is to keep us sane for the super long trips. I think we made the right choice
I had a Lance 825 my next one will be the 650. I love traveling in a truck camper! Like when I stayed up above the Arctic Circle.
How did you like the 825? And why switching to the 650? We love it too 😁
@@MagellanandGreyhound I loved the 825 I’m going to get the 650 so I can use it on my new truck which is 1/2 ton. They say the 825 can go on a half ton but I don’t know about that.
@@J297WFD oh that makes sense. And no I don’t think an 825 can handle it either haha. But it’s still a Lance.
For the f150 power hybrid truck. Do you think it would be ok to hook up the plug to the truck and run off the hybrid system?
I honestly don’t know the answer to that. I’m sorry

Very thorough video, thank u!!
You’re very welcome!

Great video. Do you still have this camper and do you like it after a couple of years? I have been thinking about getting this model.
We do! And we still like it! This was our first camper though and weren’t familiar with then prior, so the amount of upkeep has been fun haha
@@MagellanandGreyhound Thank you so much. I am glad you are still enjoying it. Thanks for the help
Really nice set up! Lots of beer! my kind of camper. 😆
We are loving it. It takes its first massive trip in September 😁
Shoot i missed this live. Definitely a step up from the truck bed. Looks super nice. You guys are so funny. Really looking forward to meeting you one day. Can’t wait to hear about your adventures and how much better they are going to be now. Super cozy looking.
If one of you has to take a big poop does the other get "smoked out" in a "Dutch oven" or is the fan pretty good? Asking for a friend.
Depends on who poops 😂😂😂. I half kid, the fan works just fine. Overall circulation is pretty good in the camper.
What do you have for a vehicle? Extra suspension? On your Ram?
Ram 1500. Yes, all extra rear suspension. Sway bar, 1 ton shocks, airbags, e-tires. Truck barely lowers when we load the camper down 🤣 - my understanding is Ford trucks were tailor made for this though
What a cutie your dog guys!!!Great presentation…you have everything you need with endless options and choices! Everything is so well organised ❤️
Thank you! We are very glad to be able to bring him now !
Very good moderators

@@MagellanandGreyhound is there a battery?
@@gggusc11 yes, there was a battery that came with the camper (which is located under the dinette area). We recently upgraded it to a lithium since we boondock a bit.
WOW! What a Nice camper! 💪💪💪💪💪💪
It really is!
So can you unload it, leave it on the ground and still sleep in it and move around in it without it tipping forward?
100% Yes. As long as we can keep it level. When not in use, it sits in our driveway and we hop in there randomly all the time haha.
@@MagellanandGreyhound good to know thanks
Absolutely fabulous. Hope your both still planning to get to Ireland and UK.
Thank you! The goal is next year, June or so, with the old man 😉 Hopefully everything is good by then, but it’s long overdue for him.
Thanks for sharing, how is the camper holding up? Any issues, roof leaks etc. Thank you
Thanks for watching! So far so good. No leaks, no major issues. Just learning the little tricks - making sure it’s leveled perfect, not overtightening hoses, getting used to how fast the gray tank gets filled, etc.

Hi, I have a Tundra and am awaiting the arrival of a 2022 lance 650. Curious what changes you made to your rear suspension.
Awesome! Did they give you an approximate date? We put in a hellwig sway bar, airlift springs, heavy duty shocks and e-rated tires. Rides nice!
@@MagellanandGreyhound
It arrived at the dealership on Friday, 9/24! Hope to have it on my truck later this week. Can’t wait! We have done the same things you have done. Sooo excited 😀
@@vinnienaylorjr.5649 Awesome! We are in it right now on a 3 weeker. It is making the trip so much nicer
Can they come with generators installed
I don’t believe so unless it’s changed with newer models. We bought ours after the fact.
How does your 1/2 ton truck do hauling it? Thx.
Do you hear any sound/noise from the fridge at night?
Not at all. The heating and air conditioning are the loudest things we have to deal with :)

Can you camp in the winter weather like 0 degrees?
@@wendydaggett3060 not this one. We have to winterize it. I believe different lance models offer four seasons camper. We still use the heat for any winter excursions but no water usage.
Great video and show gracias
Thank you very much!
That " thing" is a KING t.v Antenna..lol..👍
Ahaha thank you for that! You never know when you might need something, have it, but not know what it is :)
How long is your trucks bed?
Pretty sure it's the 6.5 foot bed.
Is that the 6.4 bed for your 4th gen ram?
I think it's 6.6, but I forget. It is definitely not the long 8' bed.
great camper
Yes it is 😁
Love it… hilarious too 👍🏻
Thank you! 😆😆😆
Looks pretty good, I must say, but I have to wonder...isn't a big part of the awnings purpose to cover the door for inclement weather? 🤔
The rear one over the door, thats what we've used it for, absolutely. The side one we have used more to sit underneath and relax when we wanted to dull the sun haha
That dog is a SPY!!!
Now that Ford has the PowerBoost/Pro Power built-in generator options, how will/can this integrate with a truck camper?
That’s a great question. I don’t know much about Ford, but I do know that Lance worked with Ford to be used with the 150 in mind.
