I owned an ‘05 buell xb9sx for a year. Such a pleasure. I felt as though I owned and rode a special piece of motorcycle history and engineering. A special motorcycle for sure
How many of us grew up with BMX or Sk8 at this point? My Pap was a Harley guy that used to hill climb the local coal pits back in the day with those 'Bubble Face Helmets' and AMF tech that would make a noob wince at the thought of pushing a bike home out of the woods to fix it and make it to work in the morning. I ride a first year 636, but I have love for the Beull Blasts and Yamaha V-Max's. These Italian bikes are so smooth in the turns as well. We are living in the best times right now. I still remember as a young lad going for a ride around the block on the gas tank of an old FLT full dresser with my Grandmother yelling, "He's gonna fall off Rusty!" and my Pap responding, "I'll pick him up if he does, now hold onto the bars kid". It seemed like outer space travel to me and I laughed/cried while asking to go again. At this point, I've taught so many people how to ride a bike with a clutch, drive a stick, cantilever steer, pull out on hills, or just give a little bravery. It all comes back to that day. My little brother has a Harley that is worth 5 of my old box of parts Ninja now and I still laugh thinking about the day I taught him how to ride a bicycle with him halfway down the block yelling, "You can let go now". Your random but concerted points in your videos really take me back and show how much you do truly care about the motorcyclist community. Thank you for taking the time to spread the true spirit of blowing off steam, exploring new places, taking a chance, or whatever it means to those of us out there.
As a former owner of a Buell bought new of a show room floor in 07 what killed Buell was HD salesman and motorcycle media . A real shame to it was a great bike.

To understand to Buell chassis layout, view the Buell Uniplanar motorcycle frame pattents, easily found and free to view. Clever stuff, it allows an engine to vibrate along one plane only, up and down while not allowing the rear wheel and rear suspension to become misaligned, all of which is attached to a vibrating power train while absorbing much of the - irritating - high frequency vibes.

By the time the Nova bikes were ready for production they were already obsolete. Trev Dealey, who was one of the oldest and largest HD dealers rode the final prototype and told them not to build them.
A bit of a clarification here on that Nova project. It wasn't so much the "Bottom line" aspect, but rather the fact that AMF had been effectively assfucking Harley for years and they had no choice but to buy the company back at a loss and recover on their own. So harley had no choice at the time but to care about the bottom line so that they could effectively survive. The EVO engine is the Engine that Saved Harley-Davidson, because no one was making radial(Knife and Forke) Pushrod operated VTWins stock bikes anymore. It was Harley's alone, and S&S was making old and outdated VTwins. These engines are what defined the generations of custom bikes that you see all over the country. From bobbers to diggers to choppers and wild oldschool hardtails, if you wanted something to chop and play with after this era, you needed the EVO. AMF nearly ran Harley into the ground. That's where the "harley isn't reliable" myth comes from, because it reaches back to the AMF era that nearly destroyed the company. NOVA being dropped wasn't just them being greedy, it was part of them just out right trying to make sure they survive AMF's destructive behavior.
Thank you for the historical insight. This juncture is a good time to remind ourselves that too many automotive companies have not been owned by honest enthusiasts but by money-grubbing charlatens. Think Norton, MG-Rover both of England, DeLorean of Northern Ireland. Eric Buell is a good man unappreciated by H-D.

lucky decisions yeah I love my buell 1125r but I'm going to have to sideline it if I want to last. Once that engine is worn out that's it. There are no rebuild parts available and some parts are becoming harder and harder to find.
Yes and no. It had a strong aftermarket but it is dwindling due to lack of new sales and declining numbers of bikes on the road. St paul Harley Davidson in Minnesota and Twin motorcycles in the Netherlands are the two main sources of new parts these days.
I just sold my XB12 and parts weren't a huge issue but finding a mechanic who will work on them professionally is s fucking pain. I do the work my self but if you're only used to basic maintenance a Buell isn't for you. Someone like chaseontwowheels shouldnt own a Buell lol.

I bought a 02' M2 Cyclone back in 06' loved that bike. I was my first sport bike and they were always my favorite looking. Didn't have a very high rev range but had pleanty of tourqe. Felt like it could tow a trailer up the canyon no problem.
I remember one day i was commuting to work on my 05 cbr 600rr.. I was stopped at a stop light. I heard the rumble of what I thought was a harley coming up behind me. It turned out to be a Buell! It was interesting. First and only one ive ever seen so far.
That cameraman with the vrod was like "get away from me, please stop following me around this bike"

I met Erik Buell at the IMS Motorcycle Show in Dallas 2017 at his EBR booth. He's an intense and super cool guy, what a wild story.

Well.... Buell had a very winning bike with that 1125 in one of those AMA series. Another up and down for the man.
I bought a 02' M2 Cyclone back in 06' loved that bike. I was my first sport bike and they were always my favorite looking. Didn't have a very high rev range but had pleanty of tourqe. Felt like it could tow a trailer up the canyon no problem.

I remember one day i was commuting to work on my 05 cbr 600rr.. I was stopped at a stop light. I heard the rumble of what I thought was a harley coming up behind me. It turned out to be a Buell! It was interesting. First and only one ive ever seen so far.
I saw the same thing a long time ago... Later I was searching online trying to figure out what this "sportbike with a harley engine" was lol
