Even if time travel is invented 100,000 years from now, then they could come back to this time in history. Perhaps the Earth is so uninhabitable by that time that giant dyson spheres are built around the planet. They decide to try and fix this by sending someone back in time 100,000 years. Dyson Spheres are not built around planets but around stars providing living space on the inside of the sphere. Technically its possible but the resources you would need cannot be found on Earth or the entire Solar System and Engineering a Dyson Sphere is beyond the limits of human beings. The human race will likely be extinct in 100,000 years anyway.

The materials could be mined from the surface of Mercury. It wouldn't take as much material as you think. I thought the same thing when scientists thought they may have detected a Dyson Sphere around a distant star a few years back, but apparently it is not as material and time consuming as I thought. Also, a Dyson Sphere type structure could be built around our planet as well to make an artificial atmosphere that cpuld be controlled and stop green house gases and other climate changes.
