Greta Thunberg mocks world leaders in 'blah, blah, blah' speech - BBC News

- Опубліковано 27 вер 2021
- The Swedish climate activist, Greta Thunberg, used her speech at the Youth4Climate conference in Milan to mock the words of world leaders, including UK PM Boris Johnson.
The 18-year-old used soundbites from Mr Johnson, such as "expensive bunny hugging" and "build back better", to highlight what she called the "empty words and promises" of politicians.
Later in the speech, she urged people not to give up hope, saying that change is "not only possible, but urgently necessary".
Many countries have announced ambitious targets to reduce their emissions to tackle climate change.
The UK, for example, has pledged to cut 78% of its emissions by 2035, from a 1990 baseline. But the government's current plans are projected to deliver less than a quarter of the cuts needed to meet the goal.

They are. They literally are at the same event.
But scientists only provide data supplied by computer models, not facts. Average temperatures here in the UK, are the same as they were 70 years ago. Average sea temperatures are also the same. PRAY FOR THIS YOUNG LADY. THIS WOULD BLOW HER MIND.
Checking out at the store, the young cashier suggested to the older woman, that she should bring her own grocery bags because plastic bags weren't good for the environment.
The woman apologized and explained, "We didn't have this green thing back in my earlier days."
The young clerk responded, "That's our problem today. Your generation did not care enough to save our environment for future generations."
She was right -- our generation didn't have the green thing in its day.
Back then, we returned milk bottles, soda bottles and beer bottles to the store. The store sent them back to the plant to be washed and sterilized and refilled, so it could use the same bottles over and over. So they really were recycled.
But we didn't have the green thing back in our day.
Grocery stores bagged our groceries in brown paper bags, that we reused for numerous things, most memorable besides household garbage bags, was the use of brown paper bags as book covers for our schoolbooks. This was to ensure that public property, (the books provided for our use by the school) was not defaced by our scribblings. Then we were able to personalize our books on the brown paper bags.
But too bad we didn't do the green thing back then.
We walked up stairs, because we didn't have an escalator in every store and office building. We walked to the grocery store and didn't climb into a 300-horsepower machine every time we had to go two blocks.
But she was right. We didn't have the green thing in our day.
Back then, we washed the baby's diapers because we didn't have the throwaway kind. We dried clothes on a line, not in an energy-gobbling machine burning up 220 volts -- wind and solar power really did dry our clothes back in our early days. Kids got hand-me-down clothes from their brothers or sisters, not always brand-new clothing.
But that young lady is right; we didn't have the green thing back in our day.
Back then, we had one TV, or radio, in the house -- not a TV in every room. And the TV had a small screen the size of a handkerchief (remember them?), not a screen the size of the state of Montana . In the kitchen, we blended and stirred by hand because we didn't have electric machines to do everything for us. When we packaged a fragile item to send in the mail, we used wadded up old newspapers to cushion it, not Styrofoam or plastic bubble wrap. Back then, we didn't fire up an engine and burn gasoline just to cut the lawn. We used a push mower that ran on human power. We exercised by working so we didn't need to go to a health club to run on treadmills that operate on electricity.
But she's right; we didn't have the green thing back then.
We drank from a fountain when we were thirsty instead of using a cup or a plastic bottle every time we had a drink of water. We refilled writing pens with ink instead of buying a new pen, and we replaced the razor blades in a razor instead of throwing away the whole razor just because the blade got dull.
But we didn't have the green thing back then.
Back then, people took the streetcar or a bus and kids rode their bikes to school or walked instead of turning their moms into a 24-hour taxi service. We had one electrical outlet in a room, not an entire bank of sockets to power a dozen appliances. And we didn't need a computerized gadget to receive a signal beamed from satellites 23,000 miles out in space in order to find the nearest burger joint.
But isn't it sad the current generation laments how wasteful we old folks were just because we didn't have the green thing back then?
Please forward this on to another selfish old person who needs a lesson in conservation from a smart ass young person...
We don't like being old in the first place, so it doesn't take much to tick us off.

The change is already underway and all government can do is stand in the way. Let the market innovate and find solutions, we are all better off. Market is the invisible hand. @@krishnavyas313 You're right that we need concrete solutions, not just yelling at politicians to do better. But there are so many developed countries that can afford to do more, yet are too selfish to do so. Wouldn't activists like Greta put pressure on governments to prioritise environmental sustainability? It seems like the most impactful thing the average person who can't come up with ground-breaking mitigation strategies could do.
@@krishnavyas313 The solutions are already being proposed, just now it is the responsibility for the public to pressure governments into enacting change instead of making the same empty promises they've been doing for decades. Hi. My name is Greta Thunberg and I am an actress from New South Wales, Australia. Actually, my real name is Estella Renee. I love acting and modeling, and my agent is MUNCHKINS. I just wanted you to know that I am sick and tired of hearing how bad an actress I am, from other people. I spent a lot of time on my craft and can cry and rant at will, which is quite difficult for the average child actress. How dare they criticize my acting skills when most have never acted professionally before. I get well paid for my role as Greta and I am worth all of the money I receive. I started my career at age 12 and am very skilled. I normally live in Sydney, Australia, so if you see me on the street there, please call me Estella and not Gretta, my character's name. And please stop spreading rumors that I am a bad actress. It's hurting my career. Thank-you.

I hope she enjoys when she goes to China and tells them about the drastic annual emission cuts they’re going to have to make.

The thing is, china is one of the countries globally largest investor in renewable energy….and has reclaimed lands from gobi desert through planting trees…globally every industry is trying to decarbonise but its just quite expensive in building the infrastructure to reach there while also having many much other problems to solve such as healthcare, education, city infrastructure, food hunger, etc. so its quite hard to balance where to allocate the money

By the way, if carbon emissions are such a horrible transgression, why didn't Greta do her speech by Skype? Oh yeah, the hypocrisy thing. Forgot about that.
This is the second time when Greta reminds me of the characters of "My little Pony - Friendship is magic" very accurately. At first Greta used the question sentence "How dare you?!" in one speech that also appeared in many episodes of My Little Pony - Friendship is magic, in the episode "Dragonshy" for instance. And now she uses the term "Bla bla bla" that appears in My little Pony - Friendship is magic the same way, especially in the episode "One bad apple" as I can remember, and even by a character who was holding a speech. Slowly but surely I have to assume very strongly that our Greta is really a very big fan of the series My little Pony - Friendship is magic. The assumption is being confirmed more and more for me.
She should be in horror movies. Her face wouldn't need any makeup.
She is well on her way to becoming an effective demagogue.
Could you elaborate on how an 18 year old is going to take over a country?
I'd make a couple of points to Greta:
Firstly, If you treat people with sneering contempt, they will stop listening to you, no matter how good your arguments are. "blah blah blah" just comes across as immature and obnoxious, and just gives her opponents an easy way to dismiss her as just that.
Secondly, we cannot make the changes we need to make overnight. Like it or not, the economy matters too. The politics matters. The Environment is an important political issue in a way it hasn't been before, which is great. But this political momentum can be completely squandered if you make people believe that it doesn't matter what they do, it'll never be enough. A far better way of going about this would be say "all these policies are a great start, but we need to go further."
Thirdly, it is extraordinarily easy to be a critic who doesn't come up with any solutions themselves. This is a very difficult problem which needs massive change to address, but we are not going to go back to the horses and carts, or sailboats. The world doesn't work that way anymore. Don't think what's being done is enough? Tell us your *realistic* alternatives.
Totally agreed. Governments cannot just shut down industries that are not 'green' overnight and leaving thousands of workers without a job and livelihood. There must be some transition plans in place. Greta also thinks in a framework of everyone versus the govt. Not true.
She is ignorant and obnoxious. I ignore her, being a native Maori and tribal she has no clue about our environment, she's white, how could she know, it is white man who did the destruction in the first place.
Perhaps its because we have passed the event horizon of respect. Humanity refuses to heed wise advice so now we deserve contempt for our sins
@@TheShadowWithoutaDoubt That's very poetic, but it's not a solution.
She's suggesting that we damn near rip the economy apart to start from scratch. She's clueless
She has the guts to be fiercer than any other climate activists and comments here are mocking her instead. The solutions are available, hundreds of climate scientists already presented it, and yet got neglected under geopolitical interests for decades. She's voicing that out loud. She's using her youth as a resource, if one of those leaders could at least feel ashamed of being mocked by a young girl and take action even just a little, then it works.
Majority of soccer fans freely cheer and criticize, players despite having no professional soccer career, although the outcome of a match has no effect on their daily life. Now a teenager can't speak her mind even though it will actually affect many people's livelihood.
