National Guard Vs. Army Reserve

- I get asked this all the time! 👇🏻
👉🏻what’s the difference between the National Guard and the Army Reserve? In the simplistic form: we are both reserve components (Part-time) of the Army. The Army Reserve is federally funded and the National Guard is both federally and state funded.
National Guards main mission is to its respective state, FIRST!

National Guard is bigger than every branch or discipline and is the Force. Reserves are simply Support to the Active Component
Yup. 👍 Army Guard is over 40% of the Army total force. Air Guard is 37% of the total Air (& space) force.
I've already passed the ASVAB test and I'm going to boot camp next month. I'm excited and scared at the same time because I'm leaving my 2 year old daughter but I know it's for the best for her. God in charge. I have this UA-cam channel but when I get back I'm going to think about creating one just to talk about my experiences in the National Guard. I’m ready to go yeah ❤
Hey, congratulations! I’m proud of you and what you’re doing -keep your head up and stay positive throughout training. Once completed, you’ll have the best gift of seeing your daughter again.
Yeah🎉 congrats 👏 I have a one year old and planning to do join the National Guard. What's your channel so I can go watch and see how it's going to be 😶🌫️🥹🙏
@@iguardconcord thank you so much for your support 🙏
@@Babymelanie2023 thank you dear, i still have just this one, but when I came back I will create a new one and I will share it 🙏thanks again. Have a wonderful day
How is it going for you? Any update? I am in the same situation and about to leave my 2 years old daughter behind.
The United States Army Active Duty and Reserve are run by the federal government and the president. The United States Army National Guard is the state side run by the governor of that state. If the federal government oversteps, it is up to the state/governor to decide which side of the fence the National Guard stands on (Minutemen). It is also the National Guards job to deal with disasters within the United States over the federal government. The National Guard IS the well-regulated state militia. The governor of the state is the one who determines whether to obey, or disobey, orders given by the federal government. We get paid by the state, for orders coming from our governor, we get paid by the federal government, for deploying and taking orders from the president. You do not gain benefits from both sides, unless you have taken part in both sides, you don't automatically get both. -National Guard Infantryman
The governor of the state is the one who determines whether to obey, or disobey, orders given by the federal government. - Sort Of but the President can still use them. Little Rock 9 for example. The President can just Federalize the National Guard and send them where needed. - Air National Guard Medic.
@@9manny99that’s what they said, unless the edited tag is from after your comment
Guard has the 20th special forces group. AIRBORNE!
Soon, they'll have a Ranger Unit in the Guard stationed in Florida in the near future.
@@realcritical-kr2ddhow soon?
@jp.v.p wish I knew to be exact but that's what I've heard about.
I live in utah and juat found out theres a national guard sf base in Draper
But if you want to switch to active duty from the national guard, it’ll be a pain in the ass to do so. Not only you’ll have get permission granted by the Federal Government, but you’ll need permission from your state governor as well. So, that’s why I choose the Army Reserves, so when I finish college I can easily switch to full time.
Why not commission or go full time in the guard? They have full time jobs that pay the same as active duty (it’s listed under AD)
All I gotta say is that - it sure sounds like you get that question asked a lot, it does make sense for someone not in the field thank you!
Thank you 🙏🏻
Does that mean being a National Guard has more benefits than being an Army Reserve?! I was under the impression as a foreign person that the Army Reserve has more benefits than National Guard
I am not a recruiter, but i have done my ASVAB and am a few weeks out from (hopefully) getting medical clearance and have done a ton of research and have talked to both branches. This video pretty much sums it up well from my perspective. There are some things the reserve get vs National Guard. But if you are looking at say tuition reimbursement, go National Guard as you can pull from both Federal and state funding and you get the same Federal funding a reservist would.
Dude just go national guard over reserve. Don’t wait your time with the reserves unless you want a certain job (MOS). But active is better, just sign a 3 years and you’ll be chilling.
If you sign 3 years instead of you dint get all the VA benefits though right? Or wrong??? @THEMUSCLEHAMSTER15
The reserve does have one unit with combat MOS in it
In the Pacific
It’s for prior service only. You can’t join the Army Reserve and go combat arms.
@@TeamWillBob Honolulu, HI, the 100 Battalion, 442nd Infantry Regiment
doesn't mean you don't do combat....here we go lol.....I was a 31b military police 340th mp Co ( combat support ) so what do you think we did when deployed to iraq.....combat patrols.....maaaaaaan listen
My bunkie in basic was a somoan 11B in the reserves.. enlisted as such
Why this old head playing some among us trap music 😂
The reserves does have combat MOS’s. Just only a few infantry units. MOS’s such as 12b can be found all throughout the reserves
And 68w
not combat it’s support
@@corinthianhoward623612B isn’t a combat MOS?
Engineers can always infantry, but infantry can never engineer lol
In other words, if you want to be under the will and mercy of politics in your State join the National Guard Boys Club. And good luck if your situation in life changes and you want to transfer to Active Duty Army... You better be in good standing with those donations to the party.
after 90 days of serving the National Guard will release you to AD.
@@sxymxy00 Sure, good luck with the bureaucracy. I've had a couple of friends actually try and it's not smooth at all. Possible yes. Easy? it all depends...
I’ve seen a lot of Soldiers get released from the NG to other branches. Politics has absolutely nothing to do with it.
Guard benefits vary by state some offer great benefits for education like Texas but others its almost nothing.
i wanna join so bad but my uncle keeps telling me not to he was a sniper in the army but he just says its not worth it and what he had to do and all none of its worth it and i really shouldn't go but he says its still up to you end the end so make a good choice so it makes me feel like i shouldn't do it. i wanna do it so bad though!
We need more specific examples and specialist to help challenged individuals like me
Go, SGT!!! 😁
Should one switch to retire as NG instead of Reserve? (Opinions)
It makes sense because national guard came first
Guard needs combat MOS' based on the Congressional bill that formally declared the Guard as the "militia" as defined in the Constitution.
If its ran by the fed. Why does the fed need the ok from the governors to deploy them?
Naw that last part threw a curve at me. How doesnt the reserve have combat mos's? I may just be ignorant but wouldnt they be activated during a war before national guard?
Run by...
Not
Ran by....
Yeah you get more federal benifits in the reserve than the guard the guard is state funded and they get sum federal
Not true, the national guard also receives a lot of funding from the federal government and you get all the same federal benefits
The Army National Guard receives both State and Federal funding. When it comes to education, ARNG Soldiers could receive Federal Tuition Assistance and State Tuition Assistance. Of course, State TA varies from state to state.
So the nationel guard are they like nation guards? Becuse in the game: the walking dead saints and sinners they talk alot about how there is a national guard bunker full of disaster relief supplies in new orleans. So is the national guard defence in their state aka response team to a invader or some thing like that or are they some thing else? Pls some one explain cus i cant see the diference between a heavy version of the police and a defence army pls help me figure out what their purpes is in diferent scenarios like ehat is their thing.
You are pretty much correct. Its a state based military force. That can be called to active duty by the president
@@matt59fireThe president does not have power over the National Guard, only the governor of that state has power. It's if the governor agrees to the federal orders. If the government took aim at the civilian population of the United States, the governor is the one who determines which side of the fence to be on. Technically the National Guard is a part of Homeland Security. I was an Infantryman in the National Guard.
@@Grunt-Barra It can be called to Federal duty by the president. Im not going to even read that.
@@matt59fire Only if the Governor agrees, there, I saved you 3 more braincells, you're going to need them, because you can't read a simple paragraph.
@@Grunt-Barra Its not that I can't. I won't. I won't read it when you are arguing a factual statement. It's called wasting my time.
Why reserve dont have combat mos it doesnt make sense logically
The objective of the reserves is to support the efforts of the active duty military. They have support MOS not combat. It makes perfect sense. Each state has its own national guard. These guards can act in a cohesive effort with the active military or on their own which is why they have combat MOS. Make sense?
National guard also has its own special forces for that same reason.
It’s also to force Congress and the president to work together for deployments
It’s wild how many untrue statements are thrown around in the comments by people who are supposedly IN the NG or Reserves 🤔…
Makes sene
So what does that mean federal vs state benefits ?
Army Reserve only get Federal Tuition benefits and retirement. National Guard gets both federal and state tuition and most states offer a supplemental retirement after x amount of years.
MOS? You are making video for a public
MOS means Military occupational specialty.
It means the job you choose.
I does not make sense the army reserve should be giving their people combat MOS is so the guard doesn’t get tapped so often to do the Army‘s job
The Guard is a part of the Army.
The National Guard is the state side of the United States Army that takes their commands from the Governor of that state.
What’s combat MOSs
“Military occupational specialty” it’s really just a fancy word for “job”
How does that help if National Guardsmen want to use education benefits in a different state 🤔?
You transfer what guard your in that simple.
Most States have their own regulations and policies for their State TA, of course they want the money to go back to their respective state. If you want to go to an out of state school, you have the option to use your CH1606 GI Bill and Federal Tuition Assistance, if eligible. You also have the option to do an interstate transfer. If you're in the guard and need help deciding which benefits to use contact your State Education Office.
Call me stupid but I’m not from the USA, I always thought the national guard was the army when they were based in the USA and not on any overseas missions 😂
😂
What if you go awol from national guard what’ll happen
Nothing
So which one is better
National Guard
Not in Texas 😂😂😂😂
National Guard don't got Medical assets/MOS's and actually Army Reserves has the only Combat unit located in Honolulu, HI and its the 100th Battalion, 442nd Infantry Regiment
Most of us had extended medical classes, at least my Light INF/Air Assault unit did. Also, there are plenty of nurses and doctors in the National Guard, anyway
National Guard definitely has medical MOS’s and AFSC’s..
I work in construction should I join. the navy seabees or coast guard?
The National Guard 😎. Honestly, do your research and see what suits you best and offers the most benefits for you.
My brother was a SEABEE, in 1978-79+....He is now a Construction Foreman for a huge Commercial Construction Company in Colorado.
