For non canbus headunits there could be a trick. Feed camera with permanent +12V through the purple black, so the camera won't flicker due to the 9v drop. Now to trigger the reverse into the headunit, connect the signal wire to the black and blue. Hope this helps!

Hi, I have a pioneer sph-da130dab head unit and tried fitting a reverse camera but wired it to the reverse light cable and it did not work. Is why I shouldn’t be wiring the camera to the reverse light wire because my head unit is canbus and will detect and display the camera without the trigger being wired to the reverse light wiring? If its displaying a black screen when reverse is selected then you don't need to go to reverse bulb....the camera just needs an ignition live 12v....cig light, rear wiper motor 12v et
What cable do you tap into for the red at the front of the car? I tapped into the black and blue at the back but not a clue where the reverse wire is at the front.
There is no reverse wire at front...because it works off the canbus you don't need a "trigger"....live is black and purple, brown is ground, then just plug in the camera rca to back of headunit

What headunit are you using? Yes black/purple is constant live. If your headunit is running a canbus box in the harness then it detects when reverse is engaged and automatically switches to reverse camera view
The only issue I see here if you tap on to the 12v constant power. The reverse camera led will on at all time. I think it would be better to tap into the reverse light cable
99% sure it will be the same, like you say they are the same underneath...this video is for android headunits only, the black and purple wire is ignition live feed for rear wiper, the canbus system on the unit automatically picks up reverse...on non android units reverse view needs to be triggered when reverse bulb is powered

Sound like something isn't plugged in correctly or not getting power/ground....check all your connections...camera power to black/purple wire and the black wire on camera to brown wire for ground 🤷♂️

@@tyh9989 if you wire it to purple/black it would permanently show rear camera view....if yoi want it to switch to rear view it would need to be wire directly to your reverse bulb....one problem is the camera needs a 12v constant feed to work....vw have a canbus system in place to check for bulb errors, so after ignition is on and engine is running the bulbs drop to 9v....the image from rear camera would freeze
Which trim are you talking about, The trim along the door card? You have to remove the door cards and melt the plastic welds to remove them. Then melt the plastic when re installing

I can remove the side of the centre console with the T25, but then I’ll need to run it back along the floor towards the rear. I’ll then fold the seat down and remove the trim above the boot carpet and then the main boot trim where the wires feed through.
Those trims along the bottoms of the doors just pry out...I didn't remove mine just pushed the wires up under them using a pry tool just to lever it up a little and push wire under

@Sam Sammy....the lights stay on as the camera is getting constant 12v....I use a night vision camera that has no leds....you could cover the lights with tape🤷♂️ the leds are pretty poor quality anyway

Android head unit....there are 2 different units reviewed on my channel both android....this way of wiring reverse camera is for android units only as reverse doesn't need to be triggered as the work through a canbus system and automatically switch when reverse is selected

Which apple carplay unit are you hoping to wire it to? If its an android based unit with carplay built in then yes. If its a non android based unit then you will have to wire directly to reverse bulb, the power to the bulb tells the unit the car is in reverse, but with android units the canbus box of the unit picks up the reverse signal from the cars cantus system

Rcd360 isn't an android unit...you will need to wire your camera directly to reverse light...this only works for android units as they are controlled by a canbus box....the black/purple wire is a constant 12v feed, so camera is always on but only shows on screen when reverse is engaged

@shehroz what model of kenwood unit are you running? There should be an input for reverse camera....you will need a multimeter to test the wires going into the rear light...all the wires are white for some unknown reason 🤷♂️or at least they are on my mk5 and 6

Been having a read and the wires are numbered on the plug, that plugs into reverse light cluster, number 3 is apparently reverse light. The camera gets its power from the reverse light, reverse engaged, light comes on and powers camera which sends signal to headunit to switch to reverse view.....hope this all makes sense
Fed a metal coat hanger through from outside to inside...if you are having trouble then remove the rear light and you can pull the top of bumper out to see the path of the wire 😀

When i remove my boot trim, there are now ires exposed. There is metal under it blocking all wires. Vw golf mk6

I don't use cameras with leds...I use IR cameras.

Correct....the red power wire needs to go directly to reverse wire, which mean removing all boot trim and lengthen your power wire to reach it

HI, THE PROBLEM IS THAT TELECAMERA LEDS STAY SWITCHED ON, NO GOOD
It's a constant 12v to camera, which is why the leds stay on...you could cover the leds or switch to a IR night vision camera....which I did 🤷♂️
