This video shows you what to aim for on your first sailing trip. Be sure to do this when the weather is fair and do NOT try this on a windy day. Your first day should see winds of around 15kmh or 10mph. We will show you how to start and stop and how to turn around. Being able to control what you do is key. Use this video along with the other videos on our channel to help guide you through the steps of how to sail - Спорт
Just stumbled on this video. I've been sailing for over 30 years. I can tell you that this is a very well done instructional video that is great for all levels of experience. It's always good to return back to the basics and dinghy sailing is also great fun!
Dinghy sailing is the best
I love these videos! I'm about to buy my first sailboat! Wish me luck! =)
Thanks for the comment. I would go to
Your local sailing centre for local advice on the best boat for you and where you are sailing

@@sailaboattv Thank you for your support! Unfortunately, there is nothing related to sailing around here, which makes things a lot complicated. I live in a small town, we have a river and a beach but no "sailing culture". I will probably be the first one to own a sailboat here =) But I am researching A LOT before I make a purchase. Once again congrats on your great job and thank you for sharing! =)
Also look into your area. There could be a reason why no one sails. Is the beach tidal or have large currents or are there other hazards? Ask the coastguard as well
Tim
@@sailaboattv Great tip. I will take a better look! Thank you for the heads up! =)
Excellent videos! I'm new to sailing, and have taken a few courses. Your videos are spot on, with excellent commentary and takes from different angles! Invaluable really. Thank you very much for making them available.

Fantastic videos... I am learning to sail backwards. I did my first Sydney-Hobart in 94 and I am a Yacht master. However I just bought a Cherub... I just learned some cool small boat stuff... Thanks so much...
Teaching my kids as soon as our dinghy is ready!! Nice video.

The best sailing school video you can get! Thanks Mates!!!
Thanks Tom :)
Thank you for this video. I am new to sailing, been out a few times. I am finally taking the classes this month. Super excited!
Thanks for the comment. Our videos are designed to accompany sailing classes, they help set the expectations of what you will cover and then be a refresher following on.

Hands down the best instructional video for beginners and people sailing in dinghies. Almost all the other videos on youtube assume you're learning on a much larger boat with more advanced equipment. I wonder if you can post a video on how to mange 2 sails with only 1 person on the boat?
Many thanks. We also set our assumed knowledge at a realistic level for newbies and tried to avoid too much jargon. Be sure to check out the rest of our channel
We are not planning to make any more videos just now but in the future perhaps. We will add your request to the growing list of next videos
Great information. I hope to introduce everyone in my family to sailing on my Boston Whaler Harpoon 6.2.
Glad they are interesting for you. Let us know how your family get on. Happy sailing

Teşekkürler.
muito bom....
Muito obrigado. Que bom que você gostou do vídeo
This is a good video and helped me to learn how to sail.
However, what should I do if the wind doesn’t remain constant or in the same direction? Because of my geography, it is rare for the wind to remain constant.
Any information would be greatly appreciated. ^_^
Many thanks for the comment and i am glad you enjoy the videos. Sadly the wind always changes direction on any day where ever you are. This is mainly due to many geographical features. Some coastal regions it is more consistent but anywhere inland will see regular changes in wind direction by up to 10% roughly. I have been sailing for 40 years and the skill to spot what we call wind shifts does develop the more you sail. There is no simple "do this" to cope with changes in the wind. The first skill to learn is to spot the gusts of stronger wind, This is dark patches on the water. Being prepared for these will help control the boat and prevent some capsizes as you are more prepared to release the main sheet. Some racing boats fit a compass which then displays the heading of the boat. As the wind changes direction your heading will alter which will allow you to decide which way to sail. Hope this helps.
Happy sailing
Very well done video. Feedback: hove is the past tense and past participle form of the verb heave. One heaves-to in order to become hove to. Therefore the verb form "heave" should be used in the video. The resulting state is hove to.
Thanks Loanword. Thanks for the English lesson. Life is a learning curve! Happy sailing.
I recently purchased a Bahia, but I'm struggling to rig it. Do you have any videos on rigging this boat?
Hi Tom. Search the rest of our channel and we show how to rig
👍
what is the name of the boat they are sailing in?
Dan L thanks for the contact. We used the Laser Bahia for the filming
It is a big two person boat with enough space for at least three people
The main thing about sailing is not to get smacked in the head by the boom.
What boat is this specifically??
This boat is a Laser Bahia. A large dinghy that can carry three or four people
where do you buy this boat
This is a Laser Bahia. Check out a retailer near you to find where you can buy one
Whar is the name or manufacurer of the sailboat in the video?
The boat used is a Laser Bahia.
www.sky-international.com/product/laser-bahia/
What kind of boat is that
jacob borrelli the two person boat is a Laser Bahia. It’s a very stable boat good to learn in
In your description - 10mph = 16kph, not 25!
Thankyou for spotting a typo. I have now corrected this
Excellent video except for the disorien”tated” part....
Great video…didn’t know Greta Thunberg knew how to sail…
"PromoSM" ✋
Great video, and very well produced.
Many thanks glad you enjoy them
Just getting some basics for taking out a Heron I restored last year. Thanks for uploading.
Thanks Michael
Thanks for the note. I don’t know the Heron that well. It may have a different mainsheet configuration. Hopefully it has centre main sheeting but some older boats are sheeted I off the end of the boom that needs a slightly different technique in that you tack facing backwards and hold the tiller as a “frying pan” grip to the side rather than as a dagger grip that centre main boats work with.
Happy sailing
great video! so excited to learn to sail my new sunfish this summer
Thanks Pepe. Glad you like the videos and welcome to our wonderful sport
THANK YOU!!
Great video.
Many thanks
gosh, this makes me wanna get into sailing...
Thats great to hear. Find yourself a sailing school and give it a go!
To let you know the Bahia is the best boat to learn in
excellent
Thanks
Hi please can you do Video on sailing backwards or a 2 handed pico.
P.s I sail a pico and it can could come in handy in March when the sailing club starts again.
Hi Matt
Thanks for the note and we may add this to the list but unlikely to get to this at anytime soon. You could try playing the video backwards perhaps :) But a tip is this can only happen when sailing directly downwind. Start with the bow head to wind. Then push the boom hard and at 90 degrees to the boat out with one arm and stand up. The use the tiller to steer, but only use VERY SMALL amounts of tiller. Remember that if you sail across the wind at all then the sail will fill on the "correct side" and you will be unable to continue going backwards. Small amounts of tiller seem to have big turning effects going backwards. It is possible with practice to go some distance backwards. perhaps start on a lightish day.
As for a 2 handed Pico the principles of all the videos is the same
sailaboattv Thanks i sail at Durleigh reservoir on Saturday’s :)
I sail there
Why am i watching this im an experienced sailor like i should go to sleep wtf
Thanks for watching
