Thank you for such a clear and informative video. Excellent teaching style with lots of step-by-step visual and verbal repetition and a final summing up of all the steps.
First time on the tiller was only the 4th time I have ever been on a dinghy. 15kt winds and no previous knowledge of tacking or anything. I'm surprised I didn't capsize! Your videos help a lot!
Thanks I have been struggling with this for the last two week - we have a great club where you can take a boat out with little instruction but I haven't been taught the basic tiller moves.
Are there any really small compact boats that I cn just buy to learn sailing by myself. I mean boat that does not need a parking lot in marine or some special storage. Boat that easy to transport, maybe something like inflating sailing boat. Really want to learn sailing but do not know how to start.
Peter Johnson hi Peter. On most of these single person videos we used the Laser. This is the most popular boat on the planet with over 220,000 made now. Comes with different sized sails. We used the Radial rig which is a slightly smaller sail but much easier to learn in. They come up secondhand a lot. For a few hundred dollars you can get going. But be careful if old condition as sometimes the mast wears a hole through the mast socket with constant turning. Some people let grit sit there and it wears through. They sell a plastic washer now to reduce this. Paying more gets a better boat so it depends on your budget. Check out your local sailing centre for more and local advice. Hope this helps
@@sailaboattv ha, you are forgiven because you pretty much owned sailing for centuries, and gave us all those weird sailing terms:p. happy sailing to you..

I've done all the mistakes in the course, I'd wish to watch this first :) Very helpful!
Many thanks
The videos can be used as a refresher moving forwards to help remember the key points as well.
Happy sailing!
this was very helpful as i am going sailing tomorrow
Hope it goes well
This is a good, clear video. I’m learning the dinghy this week & I must admit, I find the Tac hard to get right.
The trick is to do it very slow at first. Break it all down into simple steps and this will help you identify which bit need to practice

This was extremely helpful, thanks! Videos con roll tacking/jybing would be great!
Many thanks for the comment and glad you like them. We may get round to making more in time, and could add roll tacking and gybing. Happy sailing.

On 1:33 is the moment where you sometimes hit your head hard and fall into the water ;D
Dodge, duck, dive, dip and dodge.
alternative language but if it works for you then great!
If you can dodge a wrench, you can dodge a boom!
What is the sailboat seen in this video?

COMING AROUND!
Before two weeks I sailed in a Caravel and I forgot to duck so I broke a tooth
I can't see the video with the written words ,with the audio is enough..please!
Step 1: get an engine and go wherever you want regardless of wind while freeing your right hand up for a cold one and your left hand up for a cigar.
Ah ok. I can see that might work for some
3rdDegMM that’s boring lol
💁 Any fool can smoke and drink whilst driving, however few can tack smoothly in a gale! 😳🤔🤨🙄😬😡☔️🌧️☔️🌧️☔️🌧️🤦♀️💁😵💫😵💫🤞🙏
