Any public person who has the courage to admit they were sometimes wrong is worthy of my vote. Trump has never confessed to being wrong in any decision he's made in business, politics, or marriage. And yet, Retrumplicans follow this miserable creature.
Never admitting wrongdoing is a profound weakness; it exposes just how fragile one is.
Fragile people are more prone to believing anything they hear I think; to be taken advantage of... That's why Trump was able to the way he did. Just mind control...
But Trump did say in 2016, if & when he does make a mistake, he would be happy to apologize. He would apologize bigly if he ever does make a mistake. If he does apologize, it will be an apology like no other. People are already saying, that if he even thought about making an apology, it would be the most apologetic words that anyone had ever heard. Am I right?

Learn a little more about his policy positions first. He may be honorable but ultimately he's broadly onboard with most actual GOP positions. He opposes raising the minimum wage, regulating banks, taxing the rich, and obamacare. People are are complected.

I respect Mr Kitzinger for standing up to his amoral Republican colleagues and for his statement, as a Christian, that government should not be based on the Bible given the multi-faith nature of American society. For someone so young, he possesses a lot of wisdom.
Kinsinger is the kind of conservative we should expect as a check and balance in gov. Though I have different political beliefs, he is a person of integrity who gets it as far as representation goes. I appreciate ppl like him and respect his stance.

Or this guy specifically. Even the full MAGAts would probably hold their nose and vote for him in the end--we saw in 2016 that most people will vote straight ticket no matter what. But the primaries are a different matter...

No just no. The republican party would still be the same. In my view there should not be a republican president anymore as long as MAGA rules the party.
I respect Kinzinger allthough we have different views on several topics. I don't think however that he has it in him to deal with such a dysfunctional republican party.
I am also not convinced he is presidential material. I just don't know. Negotiation skills? Diplomatic skills? Team building skills?
I do think he has probably grown a lot as a person by realizing the risks involved with automatically going with the consensus against your gut instinct and values. He has experienced now that you will survive if you speak your mind and are willing to think independently. He will be a better person because of it and is an ally to defend democracy. Being an ally does not mean you have to agree on everything. Those differences can be handled in a democratic process. I cantotally see Kinzinger having an heated discussion on the floor or in committee with for example Raskin, Moskovitz or Frost and have a beer together afterwords talking about football, teasing each other about their performance etc.
I love the way he explained his views on church and state. Govt will protect the existence of all religions but it won't be based on any single one.

I lost the woman that kept me sane during my 20s when I didn't know how to be a grown up after finishing college. Having lost my mom at an early age, she taught me how to be a woman and deal with the reality of dating and later, planning my wedding and navigating the first months of marriage. She became a Christian Trompozoide overnight and totally disowned all the liberal precepts that she had stood for the first 60 years of her life. I miss the old Ofelia like crazy, but that happy, all embracing woman was killed by Trump and in her place he planted a hate-driven hag who sees evil in everyone. 😭

@@jayweh She is not my mom, she was my editor and then my friend. I don't know what triggered the change that's what is so painful. It was as if she disappeared and this other being took over her body. We realized something drastic had changed when one of the photographers she was very close to was dying in the hospital. This man had supported her throughout her life, but he was gay. This had never been a problem for her, but all of a sudden she refused to go see him because of his "lifestyle choices." After that she began to condemn abortion (though she had had two that I knew about), blame immigrants for every crime, call black people lazy (though many of our award winning writers were black),. She retired and we all breathed a sigh of relief.

He was and then was defeated because he was on the Jan 6th committee right along with Liz Chaney. The only two with any balls to stand up to MEGA.
He would lose, badly. Senators Tammy Duckworth, and Dick Durban are beloved in Illinois. Republicans rarely win statewide races in Illinois.

The idea of a Truth and Reconciliation Commission as a way forward out of our current debacle is a very intriguing one. Imagine hearing from actual citizens (neither politicians nor pundits) about how the political quagmire has affected them, how the erosion of democracy afflicts them, and how the pure lack of concern from our supposed representatives leaves us feeling anxious and violent. We pretend that elections fulfill a similar function, but they do not, since politicians seem only to listen to the desires of extreme wealth once they have been elected into office. Democracy needs a fresh start, but hopefully not a violent one.
