In 1962 I bought 2 rolls of dimes from a bank in a small town. I was 13 and had been collecting for 4 years. In one roll was an 1892. The date was legible but not the mint mark. It was either an o or s. This is the only Barber coin,of any denomination, that I had ever found. Just worth a dime but made a kid very happy.
Thanks very much for this video. I'm a 25 year old who for years found loose change to be just like the majority of the public thinks of it. Recently I started breaking open the change I've compiled over the years and sorting through it to give my hands something to do when my mind is scattered. I really like the base of this community, and folks like Gary are gems to have educate a fella like me who doesn't know hardly anything still.
I very much enjoy these videos . i loved hearing about how he kept going back to the barber dimes and each time tackled a new tier of quality and desirability. As time goes on, I realize I have a few things i can focus on. It doesnt have to be just one aspect or one coin...i love variety coins and errors and i love historically interesting coins. The old and new commems for example. So i have my "fast collection" of what pleases me in the moment, comprising if silver and just enjoyable stuff and my slow collection. That is where i make and reach goals dealing with rare coins and truely old coins. Mostly u.s. . i'm still just a pup though. I have just began the journey of making a complete u.s. and territorial collection. I expect it to take at fastest a decade but it is such a great year for coins. It is MASSIVE. The regular business strikes with a 3 cent piece ,3 nickles and 4 morgan dollars , a full proof set of each design PLUS a trade dollar and a proof morgan. Any branch proofs too. 1883 has the barber designed, san fransisco minted Hawaiian kings territorial coinage. Also with a silver dollar.and a very limited number of proofs IF you are wealthy and extremely lucky . then we have gold coins ...california fractionals , standard u s. Dollar to $20 coins. And there is usually 3 or 4 of each denomination of gold...one per mint and proofs.i have three morgans and 2 nickels thus far, the fourth morgan is waiting for me. I have also found a shield nickel and a nice indian head cent. I decided because it wasnt hard enough already...apparently...i am sticking to two grades. Xf45 or ms64. These grades to me represent the best of the underdogs. So i do my best to seek the nicest looking coins for the best price i can find and with either of those grades, i often see an undergraded coin that just STANDS right out from the rest. I want to show people of lesser means what they can build with dedication. So i have an xf 45 83s morgan , its a great coin. Lots of luster left, only a few small flat spots on the hair and cap , the eagles chest is debatable ...i see a particular mark on many 1883 morgan reverses , near the top right piece of the vine . its a little v shaped mark , its on my 83 o, 83 philly and that 83s too. Its in vamworld and is reverse die number 3 or 4...lol .confusion coming from is it the third reverse die and fourth die merriage or the opposite of that. Yup. The video got me thinking about coins alright !
I’m a barber dime collector myself. Only need 4 more to go and I’ll have a complete set. Then it will be time to start upgrading. Love the VF+ full set!!!
I enjoy coins but seldom come across collectible silver in the nyc diamond district.. did get an 1893cc $5 liberty for scrap price out of a metals refiner couple years ago
We need much much more information on the Barber series and surviving mintages - I'm a circulated Half specialist and I just can't find much useful information - the Redbook might as well be written for children - their needs to be more info put out!
I don't want to loose my opportunities with my daughter to trust me to get a poke of coins every month or so, i hope she'll try to see. I need to do these coins, it's the only thing that's stimulating me like the doctor wants me to do. Man i wish that and pray that something good comes out of all this so she doesn't cut my money off thinking i can't even manage a few hundred dollars by myself. Dang
i got 1 pc of 1894 barber dime, i really don't know where it minted., and the value ? authentic ? i just got this in state sale inside one of the bag i bought. can you help me? i can send pictures.

Coin Q&A is good for newbies like you and me to learn from. Check them out here too!
I liked this show because it reminds me when I collected barbers for years. The patience of putting together a set. Thanks
Thanks for sharing, looking forward to seeing more 👍

I have 1896 o dime good condition, do you want to buy it?
Sr à have one berber dîme am in algeria
Somehow I don't see the San Francisco mint hoarding 9 year old Barber dimes. The great earthquake happened in 1906, not 1897 or 1898.
