1st, this was informative and hilarious❤ Funny enough I bought SO much Gucci this year. A dress, jeans, sweater vest, chunk loafers and riding boots🙇🏽‍♀️ Oh and a preloved piece from Fashionphile. 🎉Gucci is not going anywhere. For sure they go in and out of style but I think here to stay💪🏼

I think the biggest problem of the Kering group now is Balenciaga, whose image has been destroyed by unthinkable advertising campaigns.
With Gucci, after the too excessive revolution by Alessandro Michele, they want to return to the elegance of the past, to the timeless classic that this brand had.
Valentino serves to restore a tone to the whole group. A new direction that the group wants to take

Very interesting video! I personally see Gucci as timeless and more accessible to the masses. I was looking at their web site today in fact. I think of Valentino as more high society, red carpet & red formal dresses, but I haven’t been paying any attention to them so maybe they’ve expanded their collection. I have yet to see any of the influences I follow presenting Valentino bags, but Gucci absolutely. I think it’s interesting that the top two brands: Hermes & Chanel are privately owned and have both been family controlled for a very long time.

I fell in love with designer luxury goods when Tom Ford was at the helm of Gucci. And Gucci was my go-to brand. I worked in a very conservative field at the time, and would never wear anything with printed logos on it (like I do with the LV monogram today). I haven't loved hard on Gucci since TF left, but I have shopped there. It just lost that dark, sexy ascetic it had. But, id be very sad if Keuring gave up on Gucci in favor if Valentino. And frankly, I dont see that happening.
One thing that concerns me even more that you didnt mention is that for the first time in so long, LV exhibited no growth last quarter for the first time like ever, which I believe is due to the continued crap turned out by its menswear line, by their refusal to contuing tolling out new and innovative monogram styles, and their ridiculous and too iftrn price increases. I think they pushed their customers too far and last quarter, LV customers pushed back. They cant increase prices three times in a year and rekease thousands of handbags shaped like ugly pumpkins and expect their longtime, loyal clientele to stand for it. I'm worried for the furure of LV. I think they may have just pushed too far.

Lol I like the woman who said there are a lot of Gucci knock-offs while wearing an LV bag, as if there were no fakes of that. Probably even more than GG! 🤣
I find that Gucci items were getting more and more wacky. A "regular person" will find it difficult to buy a piece that would actually work within their wardrobe. There are also all the re-issued styles you can find preloved for a fraction of the price. And maybe people having second thoughts about buying from Kering after the Balenciaga disaster. At least some Valentino items just have the stud detailing, instead of a massive logo. It will be an advantage to have a more low-key brand under their umbrella to contrast with the huge GGs and YSLs.
I appreciate Gucci for having silver jewellery, which is more accessible and not many designer brands do.
I think in general Kering brands will always be seen as "lower tier" to LVMH. 😕

Funny right? I thought it was ironic too! And I agree, Gucci became a bit too wild and outlandish for many customers under Alessandro Michele. It’ll be interesting to see the new debut collection from De Sarno!

Great video. I do think that Gucci in a way has become played out however, in the era of everything circling back in fashion I'm personally drawing near to my Gucci handbags etc.. It's kind of like vintage statement pieces if you will, imo. I think once this quiet luxury phase ends, perhaps we'll see the flashy, throw back, vintage like style of Gucci b/c everything pretty much repeats itself. B/c luxury handbags/goods are crazy expensive, the market has essentially pushed out a certain tier of customers forcing them to buy either second hand or shop mid-range/contemporary brands. If Gucci is smart they will recognize this and make a comeback. Sorry so long, lol.

    • @hellocatwalkcity
      @hellocatwalkcity  Рік тому

Also let’s not forget the reputational hit that Kering took with the B scandal. I’m not shocked they are trying to position another brand in their portfolio. Versace is now owned by Tapestry too. I agree it’s boring and turns everything into sameness. LVMH for sure is behind the cost cutting measure of discontinuing the OG Loewe Puzzle and I have to believe if the brand was independent that wouldn’t happen. The homogenization of brands is boring for sure. As for Gucci, my sense is it’s a phase aligned with the rise of quiet luxury but might pass so 🤷🏻‍♀️

The most important thing about so many brands and so few owners is that there is little real price competition. All the brands under one umbrella raise their prices.

I never bought a thing from Gucci. Even from a decade ago when I hadn’t developed my personal style, Gucci looked tacky to me. Still feeling the same today, I am never tempted by any of its product. The only thing I have a little bit of interest is the Jackie bag but I do not want to buy it. Just admire it from afar.
To me, Gucci is the high street H&M. I am even more turned away by the Mainland Chinese wearing Gucci from head to toe I see everyday in HK. Even during the hype of Gucci sneakers, I really couldn’t see the beauty in it. I knew it would date very soon. I knew one day no one on street would wear Gucci sneakers anymore. This is exactly how a hot seasonal item in fast fashion works and dies.
On the other hand, the Alexander McQueen sneaker is so much more elegant and classy in my eyes. Even at its price point, I would consider buying a pair coz it will not go dated.
In recent years, Celine was growing on me. However, the recent big logo Triomphe is turning me away. Loewe is now growing on me, the hammock, flamenco and gate bags are so nice. Fendi is always nice. It’s elegant and low key but a bit pricey. While LV products are less interesting to me, I definitely think LVMH group is doing better these days in designs.
The only brand I like in Kering group is YSL. It has amazing quality, timeless design at an (comparatively) affordable price.
Valentino is on the way to becoming more tacky. Who still likes the rockstuds but the brand has not come up with any good new designs.

Thanks great video. I have a few Gucci bags in fact I am using one now. Gucci seems to be some what affordable as far as luxury goes. The logo can be really loud, maybe if they downsized the logo sales would go up. I know sales are down in general, I just got an email that Fashionphile is going to be open on Saturday in Carlsbad. They are making many changes to increase business. Survival is what some businesses are trying to do, the west coast is a real mess. Go Gucci!

I like the Nana chic and 70s vibe Gucci has today. The little bamboo handle 1947 is super cute, they have a great WOC but need more colours, the mini horsebit 1955 is one of my most used bags. Greed of profits has taken over styling in all luxury Houses today. It’s all about what will sell rather than what is different. They’ll all be owned by just two families in 20yrs time. 😔

Gucci was great in the era of loud luxury where logos were big. Now that the trend has shifted to little to no branding, I feel like Gucci has really fallen down. They just have a very logo-heavy aesthetic. Not always the worst thing ever, but it definitely makes sales a bit harder when the trend is away from flashy logos.

Just like on the stock market, designer brands will have their ups and downs. No one can predict what's going to happen with any given brand next in terms of its success. The owners can only try so hard. But there will always be flops, there will be mass cancellations like with Balensiaga and Adidas collab, and there will always be a lack of public's interest. While I am sad that Alessandro Michele was let go, I think it was the right decision. I just hope it doesn't turn into another Tom Ford type era with boring silhouettes (just my opinion). I've been liking what they were doing so far since Michele's departure. As for Valentino... never been a fan. Yes, they make amazing dresses for celebrities to wear to the red carpet, but their stuff for the public is meh. The studs are overused, the lacquered leather makes me gag, and the fact that there is another Valentino (not Valentino Garavani) out there and people be buying it at Nordstrom Rack thinking that's the real deal, gives me an ick for some reason. Bottom line - I am not buying Valentino, but I am interested in seeing what De Sarno will create at Gucci. I wish him luck.

It hurts my heart to think Gucci may not be as popular as it once was. My very first luxury bag was a Gucci bag. I begged my parents in high school to the point they cracked, and my Mom bought it for me. I have had a love affair with Gucci ever since, although I own plenty of other designer handbags. Let's just say it remains forever close to my heart. I think Gucci is timeless. And, by the way, their small leather goods are awesome. Many of my wallets (especially full-size) are Gucci. Yes definitely takes the ‘special’ feeling of owning a handbag. It no longer feels exclusive when you ultimately know that your purchase is going towards making an individual/family wealthy. It also means that their employees are being underpaid and/or overworked to meet numbers. It’s why i no longer have a prime membership with Amazon and avoid buying through them as much as possible. Bezos should pay and threat his employees better (ie letting them have bathroom breaks). Yes, it means less productivity from said worker and therefore less money for his bottom line. But it also means they are treated like human beings.
