  • The Big Happy was designed by Britt for older or bigger surfers (like himself) that value performance. At 6’6 and age 52, Britt knows his strength and mobility are not what they used to be-but he doesn’t want to jump up to a hybrid or midlength just yet. He still wants to rip. To help surfers like him shred at the highest levels possible, CI’s new Big Happy design features:
    • Lower entry rocker
    • Generous thickness forward
    • Tapered rails
    • Gentle single concave
    Surf better. Be happy.

Ive been shaping my boards like that for almost twenty years because Im over 225lbs. If you are a big guy but still want to ride a short board, you can still do it. Make it 3" thick, 21" wide and 6'8" plus with a short board outline. Dont be scared to go thicker and wider. The rails are easily tapered for short board dimensions and your heavier weight can easily throw the board around. Tell your shaper you want a nice short board design with thicker, wider, and longer dimensions. Make sure to thin down the tail to average thickness or else the tail will have too much float, the fins wont grab and the tail will slide out. If you are worried about the weight of the board go with epoxy. They tend to be lighter.

Shoots boyyyyy!! I was 224 riding a 5'8 biscuit at 2.75 in. I have no idea what the volume is. Don't really matter much anyway. Yeeeew. Petal to the metal brither.

@@paulfranzen7810 Ive been backyard shaping for on/off 30 years. I started as a young thin guy riding potato chips. I grew into a big guy who still rides short boards but thicker, wider and taller. I have no idea about volume either. I just make something that works.

Just as a bigger surfer that once was a tiny grom on lil toothpick boards, I’d say surfing/surfers over 185 pounds it’s like a different sport then what the other guys are doing and surfing. Your equipment and dimensions really matter, to suit the bigger size but also need a board that still maneuvers well in the pocket.
I’ve had a lot of boards that can paddle great but surf in the pocket like a turd. Cool to see Brett try dialing in the bigger and older dudes!

What would be the low end range? I'm 6'5 215 lbs and the 6'4 stock looks perfect.

I'm 6' 220lbs, i ride a 6.4 36.6 fever mostly. i find that 6.2 low entry rockers fit into most waves, while 6.4s even with the fevers medium-agressive rocker - do not. id really go 6.2 max length, and then just wider if you need to, for a daily driver.

I’d be keen on this board. Would I be right in saying it looks like an easier version of the original Happy to ride with similar shape, tail, volume forward and rocker. Or is it a totally different design?

Everything can be used as a step up, depending on wave type and the surfer. Boards will always have their characteristics and not all bigger waves need more rocker or super pulled in tails.

Seems to me that Brit’s age is finally catching up to him and/or he realized the size of the market no one is selling to and made the m23 and this one. They will probably come out with more.

Don’t make big guy boards with kid strength glass. I’d like the 6’4 but at 85kg ultralight glass has got 12 months max before its landfill.
