I went to Harvard. It is not worth it to complete your degree online. Most of the benefits of the school are the networking opportunities and in-person connections. I would apply next year, but that is easier said than done. Best of luck.
I would definitely reapply. Going to campus is such a big part of Uni, especially at Harvard. The audacity of them to charge the same amount for online classes baffles me.
The saddest vid i've ever seen 😭 Honestly, I don't think any online degree is worth 51k.. Uni isn't only about classes, it's about connections, atmosphere, etc. Anyway, it's ur quote "rejection is redirection" - so whatever you choose will definitely turn out for the best ❤️
For someone who already has a degree from Oxford, you’re already at the top, so Harvard wouldn’t be as much of a difference to you if you get what I mean. So I say save your money, reapply (I don’t see why you wouldn’t get in again), and go get the experience! Because in my opinion, the in-person experience is the real worth of Harvard in your case.
Harvard has a way better professional network than oxford. I feel like if she decides to stay in the UK, she is denying herself of that experience to talk to law makers, and people with very high positions in our legislative & judicial branch. Lastly, the money that oxford makes in endowment is *peanuts* compared to Harvard. Harvard makes around 40 billion dollars yearly! In contrast Oxford only makes 6 billion dollars. No university outside of the U.S can provide the full experience that Harvard can. *PERIODT*
hnljojoilbvtgfyvgub I don’t think I expressed myself in the way I could’ve originally! And this is no way to attack or discredit you, nor her, again this is an amazing opportunity, which unfortunately for her will not be in the same format next year! There are individuals who do prefer / find it easier to have face to face learning vs online, and for her it’s a choice to have this amazing opportunity. The fact she’s now accepted the place I admire her for it, whether or not online learning is a bad / anxious / I can’t get a long with it as an experience. I am personally in a strange position with Uni, where I have found out that they where limiting the amount of deferrals for 2021 entry and Unis could be in a position to restrict deferrals unless there was / is a genuine reason for deferal. So, whilst this is a bigger issue for her, it isn’t for me, and, this is a bigger risk for her, than it is for me due to her course is going to be 100% online. I think deep down she is the only person who can answer her own question, but as someone who is observing from the outside, this would 100% be a deciding factor 100%! Again, I don’t think she’s ever explicitly said what she wanted to go into (relatively new subscriber) so this course maybe be more useful and therefore she needs to take the risk and put aside her issues/anxieties with online learning because yes like you said not being accepted!
you are absolutely right! That amount is crazy for an online program! But what does scare me is the fact that covid restrictions could carry into next year! what if nothing changes?!
I live in Germany and I pay about 400€ per semester. This includes the administrative fee and it also covers the costs for the train & bus ticket. So we're paying less than $3000 for the entire bachelor degree.
remember that you were one of the TOP candidates for the scholarship - which means you were one of the strongest applicants. re-apply, and if you don’t get in it wasn’t meant to be!! but i have full faith you can xx
If I were you, I would reapply!! Doing Harvard online won’t be “Harvard”, it’s just not going to be what you’ve always dreamed of at all, but if you reapply in the future it could be!
let this offer pass. university is an experience, learning alone is a fraction of it (and not worth 51k alone!!) you are determined enough to take the risk and reapply when the time is right! use the year for experience!
she needs to be confident in herself, we know she got it, she need to believe in herself. losing a year is nothing compared to losing a year of learning experience. i rather lose a year and be confident and re apply knowing if i did it once, i can do it again. losing one of the biggest life experiencie in ur life can be so regretful.
Play&Share one thing to bare in mind is that it will be a lot harder to get in next year as a LOT of people will be defecting offers and reapplying, so the competition will be much higher. i still have faith she can do it, but it would be crushing to lose the place all together . such a tricky situation :(
@@ellawelly oh absolutely, the competition will be insane if they're considering teaching typically next year. however, from what i can see she thrives in an environment that is engaging beyond whatever online learning could offer. this isn't the Harvard she wanted so it's okay to let it go and try again, rather than take an offer that doesn't guarantee you happiness. in the end it is all her decision though !
OH I HOPE YOU SEE THIS COMMENT: My friend once told me if I’m ever struggling with a decision, flip a coin and if I’m disappointed with the outcome then I truly wanted to do the other thing. Ngl I’ve made a lot of choices using this
Vee you said something that stuck with me "I hate online learning", girl I know you love school but if you think online will ruin that experince I say reapply in the future, dont torture yourself love!
To be honest, if I were to re-apply and be rejected, I wouldn't be massively disappointed because I would know I could study the same degree at another uni. But if I chose to study online, I would just spend all my time wondering what life at Harvard would be like if I had re-applied and been accepted.
In all honesty Vee, hearing you talk through it, it sounds like your heart is not in "online Harvard". Believe in yourself and your ability girl!! I think whatever you choose you'll do amazingly though!!
Current Harvard grad student here (at the School of Divinity), and honestly the zoom classes are NOT worth it. I know I'm in classes with crazy intelligent people that I need to be networking with, but the online format makes things so stressful and uncomfortable. I'm considering deferring as long as the online format is mandated even though I only have one year left. Save your application materials and reapply!
I agree but she wrote a reply to another comment that suggested a part-time, 2-year course, saying that the 2-year course would be completely online too. It sounds to me as if they plan on doing online courses for an even longer period of time :(
I totally agree with this. Having that year off will be really good for you to build your career too. If you got in once, you will definitely get in again.
I think you'd need to consider the time zone difference and how you would have to take all of your classes EST as opposed to UK time and if you REALLY wanna subject yourself to that
This is actually not that bad tbh (in fact, might be better); you'd just be taking your classes in the afternoon instead of the morning and can sleep in
heyitsjoshco [Josh Ocampo] some classes at my school are in the night time tho(I live in the west US) and so the people on the East coast or international students have to attend classes at midnight or like 2am depending on how far they are. It’s not all that nice
Angela Hagerman yeah but if we’re talking harvard, thats only a 4 hour time difference w/ the UK and this past term w/ my east coast school (i also live out west) i ENVIED the european kids who didnt have to wake up at 6/7AM for our 10AM classes
Yes it's difficult but u gotta do what u gotta do, I also work frm india and have USA EMEA shifts often. But it's part of job. We can get always wat is in our comfort zone especially when times are so challenging in itself.
It really is ridiculous of Harvard to ban deferrals in a time like this. If they're so concerned about money, they should ask you to pay it now and have it count towards whenever you defer to/when classes return to campus. That's what my uni's doing
At first I was all for you declining and reapplying for the experience. But now thinking about it more, yes it will be heartbreaking to not be in the US however by doing it online you will always have Harvard on your CV for the rest of your life which is hugely helpful. I think this benefit outweighs the fact that you wont actually be there because there. Hopefully Harvard will be able to move all the networking events online so you aren’t missing out as much?
Honestly, this is such a hard one... but Uni is so much more than just studying and sitting alone in your room... but this really is up to what your heart wants
I totally understand that you're worried about reapplying. I recommend that if you do decide against attending Harvard online, you should consider doing an internship or possibly even gaining some research experience to demonstrate to Harvard when you reapply that you have been using your time well. I hope all goes well for you!
I agree! Maybe getting that experience they asked you for to get the scholarship. That way you'd get even a better experience and a bigger achievement!
I would reapply. I feel like one of the biggest reasons for studying there is for the 'Harvard Experience', and sitting at home doing it online wouldn't give you that fully. And the pricing doesn't sound worth it.
Right? The courses are pretty amazing but it's not worth it. Hell, even if I could take the courses I wouldn't. Boston is like 70% of the experience, and you won't develop a relationship with your peers and professors the same way you do on campus. There are Nobel prize winners teaching you and you won't ever get to shake their hand. Also, if she got into Oxford and Harvard? LMAOOOO She can do it again.
It’s so much better for you to just except the offer just knowing that you got excepted into Harvard is really inspiring and these individuals are very trained and their expertise and will give you a very quality education online until you go back On campus by 2022 or 2021 don’t stress it. Also if you reapply next year you could get rejected because that may be a factor in your application
I SAY CHOOSE HARVARD. You can get to meet people and connect *WHEREVER* you are. Although the online experience is not the same, I am POSITIVE that for the money you are spending for tuition, you will nearly have the same experience(education-wise) as if you were to be physically there and I am sure that Harvard will get people's money worth with these online classes. You will still meet your professors and probably get to chat with your HARVARD peers and build connections with them. I am sure they'll have some kind of get to know freshmen type of thing. Also, think about it, you will have Harvard under your name and that is the easiest way to get called for interviews in the future. Either way, good luck with your decision and JUST GO WITH YOUR HEART
Vee, please reapply in the future, do not do it to yourself. Get more experience this next year and live freely away from your computer, Im sure you would get in again. And if you don't, you have a degree from Oxford, this will not have any restrictions on your work life. Go and experience the real Harvard when its safe to do so.
I like this comment! Vee you have a great degree from oxford! so much to offer you in life! I'm sure you'll be directed to where you should be in the future
i completely agree, plus it give her time to explore other things such as work life. There is much that can be achieved within a year. She can apply the following year.
If everyone defers, how could they accept new freshman? It sucks, but they can’t have a freshman class that is double the size. The tuition cost is ridiculous though.
@@sonjaloh4504 They definitely have enough money to make tuition free, but I still don't see how they could have a huge class size with the size of lecture halls and amount of professors. I'm not really that knowledgeable about this though so maybe they could make it work.
Zzzz then why should the students take the burden? they didn’t cause the virus either. the one with the huge amounts of money here is harvard, not the students. the university is the one that should take the burden.
Hi love, the Harvard experience is really so cool that I would not do it online. Boston or rather Cambridge, Harvard Yard, Widener and all the other libraries, the professors, the people, the community, guest lecturers... sorry but I would not pay to do it online. It's a lot of money, unless you told me they are letting you take the degree for 1/3 of the price or less, then I wouldn't do it. Man, I am so sorry to hear this. :(
Also you got in! You can re-apply in a few years when this is over, you didn't get in by chance, you got in because you're worth it, ok? Repeat with me: I AM WORTH IT.
I think you should accept their offer because like you said, it would be heartbreaking to reapply and not get in. If I heard you correctly, you’d either take the online classes or you would basically be taking a gap year? I think you can still do whatever it is you would have wanted to do in your gap year while taking the classes at the same time and you would get to study international education policy. I know it’s not ideal to be doing online classes, but it’s the only option there is for most students around the world right now, but if there is a school that you know of that’s doing in person classes, then maybe you could go there for a year. But all in all, I think the next year will go by faster than you think and then you’ll be able to go and finish at Harvard in person. :) whatever you decide will be right, just trust yourself, you got this!
Don’t lose your place just because the experience is going to change, I think it’s still Harvard, I wouldn’t give that spot up, then to go through the whole process again?? Do not reapply, I feel like people who are saying reapply have no idea how difficult the process is. Also it comes across as you’re not an adaptable person if the only reason why you are reapplying was because it was moved online... I get it it’s sad you won’t get to be there and I’m honestly sad for you but unfortunate things like this happen and how you react is important! Think about it, for example would you miss out on your dream job just because corona happened and u had to work from home?!! Be adaptable and strong and face this challenge head on u can do it !! The only thing that sucks here the most is the tuition fee, and honestly I don’t think It’s fair to charge the same price but you know...
I think you're only seeing this as an emotional thing or about "will power" which is really lame. Harvard might be a great institution but the students and the alumni in many ways are better. When you cut your access to them you're actually accepting a lesser education. Like if this was one year out of a few, or one semester, that'd be different.
Oh no! But honestly getting into Harvard is SUCH AN ACHIEVEMENT!! Perhaps this year, due to circumstances totally out of your control, is not the year you go to Harvard. It might be better to do something you find meaningful/rewarding and apply next year!
thats what i'm thinking . The fact that she got into Harvard itself is very applausable . However it seems like she wanted to go to Harvard to get the Harvard experience and of course an online course cannot provide that , literally any university will be the same so it kinda sucks . Plus the money as well, I just don't know if it's worth an online course, she could go and travel in America or reapply another year.
Don’t go. Definitely not worth it because you’re missing everything that goes with the eduction. Decline. You already know how to go in so add to that- you’ll be even better!
Sis, this comes from my heart as a fellow education student, consider doing the online Harvard Master course, I know online learning is annoying and stressful but keep in mind that's just a year and you're on your 20's, a little more effort won't be a problem for you. Since you wanna study education, you may want to take advantage of this pandemic and do research on online Ed, strategies and etc... It's a field that can be explored and exploited. The pandemic is just a reminder that this things happen and affects education directly, we need solutions to make online education better. You're young, if you do this and after feel dissatisfaction for not having the Harvard exp, I'm sure you'll be able to continue studying with scholarships in other top universities, don't miss this chance that few people have. Hugs from Colombia🤍
Wouldn’t hurt to do something different for a year though because she is so young. Online is also not about it being harder, but missing out on the in person experience. Social day to day interactions are so important. And if Vee got offered a place when she wasn‘t even done with her degree, I am pretty sure she will get an offer again as long as her grades are great, which I am pretty sure they will be.
I think you should do online. If studying this particular course is your dream, you should do it - I wouldn't count on this all blowing up in a year. I think it could very well be years until everything opens up again. The risk of not getting in again for me would be too much. If you only want to study there for the experience then leave. But if you want to do this course and theres no other option for you then do online.
Vee I watched this entire vid and here are my thoughts: 1) Your heart is set on the experience. Honour this & believe in yourself! 2) The reapplying is scary, but you are more than capable. You will always wonder if you could have had the true experience if you go ahead this year... 3) You'll also get another year to make finances more comfortable! It's crazy tution hasn't changed (& I'm shocked by their stance...) 4) Also think about class timings! Will you have to get up at mad hours to make US class times? 5) There will be a degree that covers that topic. Even if it's a variation your passion can still be fulfilled! There is a reason why that degree is being removed. Something more relevant/ updated will be coming. 6) Your peers, networking etc is a huge plus and will be so much more effective in person! I have so many more points but I think I've made it clear that I am all PRO FOR APPLYING NEXT YEAR! Goodluck, we are rooting for you either way xxx
If Harvard is your first voice, do it. You may never get this opportunity again, and you know that part of you will always wonder 'what if', if you don't take this opportunity with both hands whilst you have it. You never know, if things start looking better with the pandemic, they may gradually start to get people coming in for lectures / one-to-ones. Also, you might even be surprised to find that you like the online learning. I never thought I would like it, but I've been taking some online courses whilst in lockdown and I love it :) You just have to be self-disciplined and motivated. What is your heart honestly telling you? Deep down, I think you had already sub-consciously made the decision before you even made this video. All the best with your decision! :)
Vee I have been following you for a while and I literally cried when you got into Havard. I just wanna say that you make us black girls so proud. With that being said I really don’t think you should go. Havard has shown their true colours during the pandemic which is that they just want ur money. Take a year off you’ve been in education for so long and you deserve a break and if it is meant for you then you will go to Havard. P.s. I know your dad would have been so proud of you. ♥️
Pros •Will be able to receive your Harvard degree •Will be able to do your preferred subjects • May have a chance of going to Harvard later on as things can change. Cons •Don't Get the Harvard experience you want. • Unessasary tuition fees for having to do online. • May not get in next year if you defer
Imashi Kottachchi lol you writing it out like this made the decision even harder...idk. I’m an introverted person. I enjoyed doing my last bit of class online. Finished with good grades, past everything and felt great. But see I don’t care about the experience, I gotta pay anyway, and not getting it doesn’t seem worth it so I would just go and be a Harvard grad. However, she does seem very torn about this and wanted a real uni life....so for her I say she should re-apply.
asra Australian student here and yup same. Even the student services and amenities fee is still in place at full price and that covers things like campus security and electricity, things we aren’t even using because we aren’t even on campus anymore lol
Vee, this is what I do when trying to make big decissions: Put ALL of the ideas on a PROS and CONS list. I know it sounds really simple, but you can't really ask other people to give you pros and cons because THIS DEPENDS ON WHAT YOU WANT TO DO: your dreams, your goals, your preferences (how important is networking to what you want to do in the future? What could you do in a full year, perhaps you have an initiative you've been wanting to work on?, Is the fact that the course will be a bit different important or will it affect your future plans?, etc.) every thing, as little as it might be, you need to write it down and put it on the PROS and CONS list. After this you have to kind of weight each of them and it will help you decide. Trust me, I know it sounds really simple and a bit silly, BUT THIS HAS HELPED ME SO MUCH IN THE PAST. I think it's because when you write it, you can see all of it together: it's no longer scattered around in your brain and it helps you see things way more clearly. AND ALSO, ther's this TED talk that I think you should watch "HOW TO MAKE HARD CHOICES", I remember it mention how most people think that a decision will be the make or break, they can either choose right and live happily ever after or choose wrong and be sad forever. The research that the speaker had done for the talk shows that this is in fact not true at all. And that at the end, whatever decision you make, it's not gonna be the make or break of your career!! YOU CAN ACCOMPLISH WHATEVER YOU WANT, whether you study at Harvard this year, next year, the following or never: THIS IS NOT A NECESSARY CONDITION FOR YOU TO MAKE GREAT THINGS HAPPEN IN THE WORLD!! Good luck, Vee. I know how stressful this must be. I'm sending you a virtual hug!!
It sounds like you really want the whole university experience a little bit more than just purly the degree itself. Which is completely fine, a lot of students want that. You've got your whole life to go- would you be fine in say 10 years time saying I got my degree from Harvard, but...online? If so do it online now. If not then would you be fine waiting a year or two till the pandemic (hopefully) gets sorted and then reapplying and living the whole experience there? In addition, you sound like you have your shit together and seem very smart and dedicated, plus wanting the whole experience and waiting a year is something that Harvard will love to hear when you reapply, so don't worry about not getting accepted later! You've got this!
Honestly, it seems like you’ve already made your decision. Like you said, the in-person experience is what you value, what you were most looking forward to. So reapplying next year seems like the best option.
Vee you've not achieved anything from playing things safe and everything from believing in yourself. You wanted the experience. Reapply. If you don't get in then it was never meant to be. But you have the self-belief to believe you can get accepted in again.
hey girl. firstly ur amazing and u must never forget that. my advice would be take ur place - in the long run it will be so worth it. I missed my a level grade by one mark at my firm offer and took a gap year (which was amazing) and retook the a level, but the uni (even though they accepted me first time round and sounded understanding when I told them I’d reapply) didn’t make an offer the next year. never expected that and it kinda crushed me. especially bc I didn’t consider that would happen and I thought everything would fall into place. anyways I think online Harvard is still incredible and better than risking no Harvard at all. not that I don’t think you’d not get in next time round, but sometimes these things seem so certain and when they don’t work out, it feels like ur world is over, ya know. Uni admissions can be quite cruel and it’s always their loss. Much love and power with whatever you choose xxxx
Honestly Vee, you are crazy talented, have so much to offer and so much to bring to Harvard everyone in this comments section and probably everyone who knows you believes you are more than capable of being accepted again next year so I'd suggest reapplying next year. This is such a huge huge decision and your will doubt yourself 100 times over but as you say there are pros and cons to both options so whatever you pick, it won't be the end of the world or the end of your learning journey. Also, whatever you pick you will NOT let your family down at all! Aside from being an amazing, compassionate, beautiful, hard working young woman, them be so so proud of you for getting into Oxford nevermind Harvard too and if you do the first year from home or don't get in next year, they'll still be so proud to say 'the only thing that could stop Vee from attending Harvard after Oxford was a global pandemic that stopped international travel.' That's so crazy girl! As you said, the students did not ask for this so the uni is responsible for the awful decision they've put on you all, and personally I thinks it's a very selfish move for them. Before I go, idk if you were working in partnership with them but The Student Hut gave you a massive shout out a couple weeks ago which might be were some of the new subscribers came from. Love and good luck x
doing it online just sounds like it wouldn’t be the experience that you want... I’d say reapply for next year, at least then you can get the most from the degree and I think you’ll be happier in the long term, especially as the fees are the same!!
You have to think “why do I want to go to Harvard?” Is it the name? Or the experience? You can get that “college experience” many places. Consider other schools if you want to give up your spot and reapply. If you want to say you graduated from Harvard, just go online. The degree will still say Harvard.
I can’t imagine how difficult this decision is for you. I would look at this as whether Harvard can currently provide what you want from them- if not, especially for $51,000, I would look elsewhere or try again next year- just because it’s Harvard, doesn’t mean you can’t turn them down if they’re not giving you what you want! Good luck with your decision 😊
51k is not the price per semester. There are lots of 'hidden fees' especially for an overseas student. Just going to a good state university in TX with instate tuition ... full time ... at least 50k ... no way Harvard is 51k + housing and food!
@@BritgirlTX Harvard has the best financial aid in the US! They make college extremely affordable and give money in the form of scholarships. I just looked it up and their financial aid website says that 100% of students graduate debt-free and that 20% of students don't have to pay anything to get in!
Vee you have a platform! Start a petition for allowing deferrals or reduced tuition, and I'm SURE it would spread like wildfire. I'm a student at another Ivy studying Education & Cog Sci, and we ALL know that if Harvard does something, EVERYONE will follow if their resources allow. If you advocate for yourself, you will be advocating for literally all other grad students in the U.S. Everyone in the U.S. higher ed system understands this, and we will ALL support you because of it. That being said, if that doesn't work out, there are a ton of other amazing graduate schools in the U.S. that would give you amazing opportunities too. If you can get into Harvard, you can get into many other graduate schools too. Harvard isn't the only place that will give you the education you want, and in the US, there are up to 10-20 other universities that would give you that experience in the field you want. There's no way that if you'd gotten into Harvard the first time, there would be no other school that accepts you the second round.
Vee, I’m so sorry about this situation! I didn’t go to Harvard for undergrad, but I did go to another Ivy and I would say that these schools are so valuable because of the non-academic opportunities that they offer. Of course they’re academically rigorous schools, but if there’s an argument to made in favor paying 50k in tuition at Harvard or finding a cheaper university, I think the experience and connections you would have in-person at Harvard is it. Networking, guest speakers, in person relationships with esteemed faculty, work opportunities - those are only things that you can really experience in person and those will be so valuable throughout your career. I also think Harvard should have reduced tuition given that online classes are very different from online ones. Obviously it’s your decision, but you’ve worked so hard and I really think that you deserve to get the full Harvard experience that you’ve been working towards. Lots of American students are deferring for similar reasons, but that experience would likely be more valuable for you because you’re from the UK. I’m sure you had an excellent application and that Harvard would accept you again if you decide to reapply, but if not, there are so many other incredible universities in the US that would. Anyway, these are just my two cents, but best of luck in your decision and I don’t think there’s a wrong decision either way.
My gut says re-apply next year, and decline the online course. Yes, you'd have the line on your CV that says "Masters degree from Harvard College" and that definitely means a lot, but does it REALLY mean anything to you? You didn't apply there to get the CV credit, you applied for the whole experience. And if you're saving/paying for it, you want the entire experience. Doing a degree from your bedroom will not light up your soul, it will not strengthen you as a person, you will not make awesome new memories, you won't experience new things. You'll just learn some new stuff. Would you even get to graduate (like, on stage?!). Vee, use this year to save more money, get involved in some great projects, work, volunteer, whatever you want, then re-apply to Harvard. I have no doubt you'll be accepted again.
I would definitely reapply! I can’t imagine paying all of that money to just study at home all alone on your laptop - also the time difference would be a pain!
I came across this video by accident but I watched the whole thing. At first I wasn't sure what would be my choice but after listening to you I sure I would decline. I studied both in my home country and abroad and big part of my studies was growing as a person, experiencing new things, meeting new people. During my studies abroad I matured, met my friends whom I call my chosen family, I changed for the better. Lectures are not the only part of your studies and not being physically at the Uni is taking away so much of this experience. I send all my love to you and I wish you all the best, regardless of your decision.
You'd probably not see this but I'd reapply. Honestly you got in the first time I genuinely have to doubt you won't get in again. You seem to value in person and the social aspect of university as well the lectures. 51k I cant pay just to be in my room on zoom. Good luck on whatever decision you make. Dont doubt yourself u will definitely get in again next year.
This is a freaking conundrum, I would not attend and pay the same amount of money while missing out on campus life. You can use the gap year, to make yourself even more appealing to the university. I really wish this wasn't happening to you this is a very difficult decision to make. Good luck girl.
I think watching this we all know (including you) that you (and rightly so!!) want the whole experience at Harvard. I think you should be super brave and reapply next year because I think you will regret it if you don't. You literally light up when you talk about living there and look deeply sad at the concept of studying from your bedroom. I say follow your heart and take the risk! You can always reapply twice/ three times! x
Whatever you do or study in the UK might still be online, working would also expose you to the virus but if you have something else planned here in the U.K., Equally do it,, but if not do the one year online and go out there when the coast is clear, I have a feeling this is the year for you to do this with Harvard only because of this pandemic, it's taken lots of Americans lives and I'd rather you are here in the U.K. ❤️
I dont know much about your circumstances but my advice is, if you are going on a full scholarship, you can take the online offer. If it will cost you a lot and you don't like the idea of online, you can reapply some other time and build any of your interests now. You can also do the online now and in a year, you will have a Masters from Harvard which is still something. In a years time, if you are still focused on attending Harvard in person, you can focus all your energy on getting a fully-funded PhD at Harvard. Meanwhile, who is to say that the class of 2022 will not have to study online again just in case there is another reason why it has to be so. As for the vlogs, if you choose the online option, you can focus on exploring your city and sharing your educational journey there. We don't know exactly what's in our futures but we must trust that God has everything figured out and our lives will turn out well. So, if you believe in God, ask Him to guide you to the decision perfect for you and everything will definitely turn out well. Meanwhile, congratulations on having 150k subscribers, Vee. Edit: Hehe! If the fee is the same, then I think you can reapply. It does not make any sense that it is still the same. You are valuable as a person if Harvard doesn't see it in future? Their loss!!!!!!!
Nooo Vee :(( that’s such a shame, tbh gal I’d actually hold off and reapply, it’s clear your heart isn’t in online learning and often these things are meant to be. Life throws you curveballs and maybe this is one of them. Obviously though we’ll be here to support you whatever happens❤️❤️ (also sidenote CONGRATS ON 150k 🥳🥳)
@@ida_sleeps I don't think that is what the person meant. The "meant to be" portion is that her not having the chance to have the in person experience Is just the matter of timing isn't right for what her heart truly wants.
Majesti yeah that’s what I meant! As in if she was meant to go to Harvard then things would sort themselves out and Vee would be able to study in person at Harvard for at least some of her degree! Hope this clears things up!
Hello! As someone who ended up giving up on her dream school to pursue a more complete experience, I hope I can offer a unique perspective on this. So, my dream was always to go to an American Ivy League school (or at least one around that level), and I ended up choosing a lower academically ranked school for a few reasons. Half of the college experience is about making connections. The people in your major are people you may work with in the future. The importance of those connections cannot be undervalued. Additionally, many people maintain lifelong friendships with the people they meet in college. At Oxford you had the chance to meet these people in person, so by the time you went online you already had established friends. Imagine how hard it'll be when you are meeting all these people online, and you all are on different time zones. It just seems like a very isolating experience. Additionally, the fact that they (and every other American University) are not cutting tuition prices is absolutely ridiculous. You are correct, there is no way to justify this. You are paying full price for a half education. Yes, you have the degree from Harvard, but was it really worth that insane cost? Just something to consider. It really isn't fair for you to even have to consider all of this, but right now it is probably more important to be pragmatic with your money. You will be graduating into an 'uncertain' economy to say the least. I have no idea where your family financials stand, but this cost is really astronomical for what you'll end up getting. I know you are worried about what to do for a deferral year, and the thought of getting rejected is terrifying for everyone believe me. But think about it this way; you have already survived a rejection once. And here you are. I feel as though you're undervaluing all that you've already accomplished. From what I've seen you're exceedingly capable, and any college worth their salt will see that when you re-apply. Don't get so caught up in the name brand that you sacrifice everything else for something that doesn't guarantee you the job. For example, I'm pursuing a career in the film industry, and they care more about the work you've produced (basically your resume) than the degree you got. Being in person at a college not only gives you the experience, but also access to internship postings, one on one time with teachers, and other things that transcend the name brand degree. During a gap year you could try and get a job, I mean it never hurts to have some extra cash in the bank, or even apply for an online internship that will help pad your resume for when you apply to in person ones (or even if you just decide to apply straight for a job). You could pursue everything you didn't have time for as a full time student. I see it as a once in a lifetime opportunity where you can shape your year however you want. Overall, I strongly recommend that you re-apply. Again, as someone who gave up on her "dream schools" and moved to a lower tier LA school for the "experience," I can testify that your degree is ultimately what you make of it. I can supplement my learning to mimic that of higher tier schools. I cannot, however, recreate the experience of living in LA. I have never regretted my decision, not even once. Of course, I am not you, and I do not want to be pretentious. I am sure that this decision is incredibly hard on you. I waited until the last possible minute to make mine. I am truly sorry. (Also I apologize if this was too long and pretentious, I have a problem with condensing my opinions - thank god English isn't my major)
Even though i have no decision like this right before me you inspired me a lot! (And sorry for possible grammar errors, english is not my native language)
I would say reapply tbh. U r very smart and u can get into any college/university that u apply to and it’s honestly not worth giving up that in person experience because of some virus. I would be so mad if my college did that; I would defer right away. Harvard is literally just an university and if u were meant to go there, then they would accept u again when/if u reapply, but if they don’t accept u again, then it wasn’t meant to be and u just need to go on with life.
Harvard definitely has the means to give everyone the option to defer. they want one thing, that is your $$$. and a lot of people will fall into this trap and do a year of online school for the same price. that's why they aren't lowering the price. Is it worth the money for you? In a year we might be in a different place yes you're right, but nobody has that answer and only you can decide what's best for you. I would probably take a year off and experience life without school, make a list of things you want to teach yourself ‼️ Because teaching yourself things is a great value and skill. When I took time off school I make a list of goals for myself, which included learning how to cook and spice my food, become self sufficient and move out of my family's house, save money, learn how to play the drums, learn how to exercise, and along the way I learned so much more. I'm hoping to attend University this fall. I was planning on attending this spring, and but decided to defer due to COVID so I feel for you. I was able to receive multiple scholarships because I deferred so that could possibly be something you work towards if you do defer. but remember that in this life, you will never make perfect decisions, this is about making mistakes and learning! You're worth so much more than measuring your value by your productivity. and resting is just as important, something I'm learning the hard way. You're going to go far , never forget that Vee
I think the point of not letting people defer is so that they can have a fair admission for the next years class. If too many people defer, it makes applying the next year impossible.
I think that you shouldn’t accept the online classes, I think you’d regret getting into Harvard like THAT. It’s tough but I wouldn’t want to remember Harvard like that.
Even though it's unexpected, maybe there are greater plans for you this year and your educational career or some major opportunities in your goals to advance education for people around the world. I have been watching since day 1, and with that, I also know that you're a super hard worker and haven't had much time yet to discover yourself outside of being a student--maybe this is a push in that direction for your life and a way to understand who you are as a activist, visionary, citizen and just a person in general. Learning doesn't always happen in the classroom: knowing you, you are going to soak up every experience that comes your way, and this could be an exciting diversion from academic routines and a level of freedom with yourself that you've never had before. Then next year, you can reapply if that's still what you want! Plus, if you do great things this year, your resume will look even better the next go round :)
First of all for me the study is more than a simple action. Paying for education is not just paying for learning, but for a series of experiences that are not possible to have anywhere in any way. I am sad to know that you have to make this kind of decision I would like them to take a break and not ask you to make that decision now. However if I were you I would reconsider and reapply for next year. I feel that if you agree to do it online you will regret it when you receive your degree. Do not hesitate to reapply you will enter again! I wish you the most beautiful and pure things, thank you for being inspiration for us! Love from Brazil! PS: Sorry if my English is not the best one!
100% agree with this! You can always take a year out to do more amazing work and then have even more to give when you do go back! However, it really is an INSANE amount for a Harvard degree that you won’t even get to have the full experience for. It really just depends on what you can live with and what you would regret most because in the end we regret what we didn’t do more than what we did do. So you should just keep consulting with those nearest and dearest to you and make a decision that you know in your gut is what is the right option is for you in the current state of things. Life is unfair and sometimes we have to make hard decisions, so just go with what you feel you can live with 10 years down the line! Hope you make a decision you are happy with Vee❤️
but it's not just for the experience, she doesn't like taking online courses, she is really smart so she knows she can make it but she just doesn't like it
I'd recommend taking the year and re-applying. You are worth more than an online degree. Making a decision like this during a stressful time isn't easy, but remember that all university students are in the same boat right now. Just remember, this is not a race. You're in your early 20s and you have a degree from Oxford! Take a moment to breathe and focus on yourself and what makes you happy. You won't regret it. When travel restrictions are lifted, you might want to visit Boston and Cambridge to get a feel for the area. You can gather your thoughts and plan out your goals. You might even find a job or internship that could connect you with relevant people and give you valuable experience before your next chapter. Try not to be married to a specific degree. In the end, it's the quality of the education that matters, and not the title of the degree.
I really need to know if it's possible to do that, i mean taking this semester or year and then re-apply, wouldn't that be like the choice everyone would take ?
It kinda makes no sense tho, why should you be online until you graduate just because you began in August? It's... I don't know, it just makes no sense. Ok it's Harvard but why denying you the possibility to live some of it?
@@drveekativhu if they would've said "Ok for now we're in this situation and in, say, six months we'll update you and you take the risk to eventually do the whole year online" it would have been... well, not better, but more reasonable at least...
@@drveekativhuSIs I'm dropping. I got into Harvard too and I'm dropping out. I'm in the same exact position you are in. I would have seen you on campus. Chile I'm sad but I can't justify paying this much for it and I don't get any of the benefits with the career I'm going into. This really sucks. Join the slack group. We have been talking about it there! I'll give more details about my choice if you reply! Also not sure if you are master's student or a college student. I have a feeling you are a HGSE student. If you are a college student DO NOT DROP YOU HAVE FOUR YEARS!.With a master's its completely different and you have to think of your career and network more than ever. An online program would lose a lot of that. I totally get what you are going through. They are making it easier for students reapply and I was talking to directors and they are trying to give slight preference to those who have gotten in.
Congratulations in getting into your dream course and college. After hearing what you have said, it seems that you value the whole experience of being there and meeting people more than just getting a degree there. I know it can be hard reapplying and not getting in. I would say I’m proud of you for making it so far. There’s a saying I love “when you put all the effort towards a particular goal, the whole universe helps you achieve it” No matter what happens. Do believe in yourself. You can only get better as you go forward. I’m pretty sure you’ll do wonderfully when you reapply. Wish you all the best to get in again. Take this year to sit back refocus on where you are and how close you have come towards your goals in life. It’ll be tough. But it’ll help you reach further. It’s just my opinion. Hope it helps
it truly feels like the experience is more important for you than the name/degree. i’ve had a similar experience because i also got into my dream school for this upcoming semester as well but i am thankfully able to take the opportunity of moving to the city in which my dream school is so at least i am able to have a bit more of the experience (and i also have three years of college left to experience). if they truly, truly aren’t budging on letting you apply for visas even for spring semester i just do not think the online classes are the way to go. i know for me too online classes were the worst and i felt like i was not learning the same as i was in classes. i would take the to reapply next year your major(in a general sense) will still be there and you will still be studying what you love but you’ll just be a lot happier to experience harvard to the fullest and not just in your bed.
I don’t know if this will be helpful or anything but I remember the fact that you got into Oxford twice ,through your hard work and dedication ,so who can say that you can’t get into Harvard twice again, through your hard work and dedication , also by reapplying but this is up to you and you should do what you feel is best FOR YOU!
brit studying in US here. Many of Harvard's decisions are based on finances, they don't care about their students; why still charge full price?. This is not the best solution.
I think it's a very good solution. Of course I understand that it's expensive and doing uni online doesn't do it justice however look at the situation in the US concerning covid19. It wouldn't be smart to open unis where there are large groups of people all the time. There would be so many sick people it wouldn't be better than doing it online. Imagine half of the course is at home sick. Doesn't seem that appealing to me
From what I've seen of you through your videos, you seem like the sort of person who really values the whole experience of university. I get the impression that you would always feel that you were missing out if you were doing it online - also, you definitely know you can get into Harvard, you've already done it! You could spend this year doing a wealth of amazing things that can only strengthen your application anyway (not that you need it!). You would also have your final Oxford degree and grades by then, which may strengthen your application too! I feel that you're more than strong enough to have re-applying as a legitimate option...you didn't get in this year by chance, after all - you're a superstar.
This is a really tough one. But i would say have confidence in yourself and re-apply! You are an Oxford graduate- you are amazing and you've already applied once and got in. You can do it again. You owe it to yourself to have faith in you. Online Harvard is not worth 50K! Do what your gut is telling you girl X
Cons of studying online this year: As you mentioned, you won't receive the full Harvard experience (including networking face-to-face, extra-curriculars, accommodation). You don't enjoy online learning as much. Pros: At the end of it, you still have a degree from Harvard, regardless of how you attained it. You save over 25% of the money you were initially going to pay by saving accommodation and other costs. You could invest the $30,000 in something else ( eg some of your projects- Empowered By Vee). While studying online, you can still travel across the UK and have more time to focus on your other projects and goals - eg expanding your brand and outreach. Even if you don't like online learning, you sound like you love the content, which will keep you interested in studying. In my opinion, you should study online this year, but whatever you do, I will still support you!
Regarding: "While studying online, you can still travel across the UK and have more time to focus on your other projects and goals - eg expanding your brand and outreach." she could still do it even if she declines harvard. she'll have a full year (at least) to grow her youtube, side projects etc.
Hey Vee, love your videos! I recently finished my PhD at Harvard in 2017. A couple thoughts: - Since your degree is only one year, I’d recommend going at a time when you can enjoy the whole experience. A new city, country, degree, friends can take time to get used to and enjoy fully, so a full year would be optimal to be able to really have your experience. - There will be more chances and opportunities to re-apply to Harvard or elsewhere in the future. If you’re dead set on doing your degree at HU, apply every year until you get re-accepted. This will take some pressure off. - You’re so young and accomplished, you will have so many opportunities in the future. Having gone to Harvard myself, the name means less and less as time marches on and new experiences arise. I enjoyed my time there, but it honestly isn’t held up on the pedestal in my mind that I thought it would be years later. The best people make good experiences out of their circumstances, wherever they make take place. Anyway, I hope you can read this and it’s helpful. Please take some pressure off of yourself, you are such an amazing woman and role model. This will work out for you in the end!
This is so heartbreaking I feel so sorry for you :( I'm going to be honest I don't feel like 51k for an online degree is worth it at all... Is that particular degree entirely unique to Harvard? If you can do a similar one literally anywhere and even potentially be on that campus then you will end up with the whole rounded experience of that institution which in my opinion will end up being more valuable than sticking to Harvard in this case! I can see how this is an impossible decision for you, so from an outside perspective I think you have to detach yourself from the glamour of Harvard, you won't be getting it regardless, and what's left is just not worth that amount. Again, I'm so sorry for you! An edit to add on to this: The only thing that would tip my opinion towards you accepting, is if being apart of the Harvard alumni would actually be worth such an investment despite being online, but I don't know enough about that to say for sure
Vee, I have every faith in you! You’re incredible! It’s important to play devil’s advocate here, however. Before you make your decision, please *really* consider that your reapplication might not be successful and how that might feel. The number of applications next year will definitely be higher because of reapplications. I’ve just finished my first year undergraduate at Cambridge. I’m so sorry that this has happened to you. So much of the uni experience is actually being there, and doing Harvard at home would be hard. You’d still be doing Harvard, however. I know it’s not all about a CV, but having Oxford and Harvard is such a winning combination. Cambridge was really great at adapting to online learning. I’m sure in the next year they’ll get so much better. I lost a 3rd of my year to online studies and exams and it was SO hard to do it all at home. You know better than anyone what you’ll lose by not being on Campus, but there’s also the risk of not being on Campus and not getting the degree as well. I’m so so sorry this has happened. This is one of the most difficult decisions I can imagine. I hope you find happiness which ever way you end up.
Darlin, do however your heart feels at this exact moment. DO not try to predict "what if this or that happens...". Education is not just the diploma, as you've said, it is about being PRESENT. Listen to your heart and pray for help and guidance ❤
this is so scummy and manipulative of harvard. shame on them! this is such a tough situation, but i can see how your heart is in an in-person harvard, so i day try reapplying
my vote is go. just imagine in one year, you will be a harvard alumni. I know it's not the experience that you imagined but everyone is completely affected by this and you will be the first class to proclaim hey I finished my degree during a global pandemic 👸🏿 Either choice you are bright amazing and smart and you will excel anywhere
I’m so sorry that this happened to you. All these things have been ripped away from all these people and all because of one virus. I can’t tell you what would be best for you. So i really really hope that you make the decision that will make you happy. Good luck and I wish you the best in this.
I would definitely re apply because I feel that one year out wont matter in the long run and that the experience will be well worth the stress in the future
Sounds like a very expensive version of the Open University to me. University should be an experience not a qualification. Remember the (our!) School of Archaeology at Oxford has reopened applications for its graduate programmes and I’m sure you’d get in. Perhaps have a chat with Peter Stewart? Good luck!
To have “Harvard” on your resume is what you’re paying for, regardless of online or in person classes. They don’t care about your experience. They are a business, protecting their brand.
I would say you should do it online. You could always get another degree after at Harvard or at BU. Your commitment to the university might prove worthy in terms of future scholarships or opportunities. Simply having the Harvard name in your resume gets you connected. You could have relationships with professors which are seeking student connection desperately which could possibly get you online internships or a remote learning experience. Boston isn’t going anywhere but neither is covid. America is getting worse with all the reopenings in states and we haven’t even reached the first wave’s peak. I’m assuming a lot of students will take a year off and admissions will be even more overloaded. You are clearly an amazing student and being stuck at home doesn’t seem useful or fulfilling. Yes, you would miss the Harvard experience but once a Harvard alumna you’ll have opportunities to go back to events and lectures and probably more. There’s chances to visit Harvard in the future but if your gut is pulling you to not reapply then I think online is the option you should go with. Best of luck!
I went to Harvard. It is not worth it to complete your degree online. Most of the benefits of the school are the networking opportunities and in-person connections. I would apply next year, but that is easier said than done. Best of luck.
What did you major in?
I would definitely reapply. Going to campus is such a big part of Uni, especially at Harvard. The audacity of them to charge the same amount for online classes baffles me.
The saddest vid i've ever seen 😭
Honestly, I don't think any online degree is worth 51k.. Uni isn't only about classes, it's about connections, atmosphere, etc. Anyway, it's ur quote "rejection is redirection" - so whatever you choose will definitely turn out for the best ❤️
Omg true and online courses are harder than in class courses
*PERIODT*
Next year might be very hard to get in because there will be a ton of people deferring this year as well as all the normal applicants of next year.
@@MBear3 oop that's me cuz i'm a rising seniorr
@Kenn Klein is it free?
“I hate online learning”. I think you’ve answered your own question. Personally I would take online learning as I’m not fussed.
yeah but sometimes you have to do things you hate because she can't defer, she would have to apply again and possibly get rejected
hnljojoilbvtgfyvgub I don’t think I expressed myself in the way I could’ve originally!
Vee, 51k for online classes is insane, takes away the whole point with Harvard. Use this year to make sure you'll get in next year!
im going to canadas best school and im paying 15k for my entire bachelors degree its so weird why is the us so expensive?
you are absolutely right! That amount is crazy for an online program! But what does scare me is the fact that covid restrictions could carry into next year! what if nothing changes?!
@@bakakami8408 where? what major? I'm from Canada and i need to know which uni is this cheap!!!
Wow. It's really expensive there in the Americas. I'm glad that the university I'm going to right now has free tuition fees and miscellaneous fees.
Why reapply? Can’t she just defer? That way she wouldn’t have to reapply
Rukudzo Masoha in the video she explains that Harvard doesn’t do deferrals
Rukudzo Masoha did you watch the video?
Rukudzo Masoha if you watched the vid, she said they will not allow any deferrals.
Harvard may be online for longer than a year. I don’t know if it would be wise to postpone just for the hope that you can do in person.
let this offer pass. university is an experience, learning alone is a fraction of it (and not worth 51k alone!!) you are determined enough to take the risk and reapply when the time is right! use the year for experience!
she needs to be confident in herself, we know she got it, she need to believe in herself. losing a year is nothing compared to losing a year of learning experience. i rather lose a year and be confident and re apply knowing if i did it once, i can do it again. losing one of the biggest life experiencie in ur life can be so regretful.
OH I HOPE YOU SEE THIS COMMENT:
My friend once told me if I’m ever struggling with a decision, flip a coin and if I’m disappointed with the outcome then I truly wanted to do the other thing. Ngl I’ve made a lot of choices using this
Vee you said something that stuck with me "I hate online learning", girl I know you love school but if you think online will ruin that experince I say reapply in the future, dont torture yourself love!
Agree to this
To be honest, if I were to re-apply and be rejected, I wouldn't be massively disappointed because I would know I could study the same degree at another uni.
You don’t just pay that amount of money for the education, you pay for the experience. Best of luck on your decision, much love 🥺❤️🌹
Personally, I think that if you re-apply next year you will get in. A year of uni online is hardly a uni experience. Best wishes x
I agree but she wrote a reply to another comment that suggested a part-time, 2-year course, saying that the 2-year course would be completely online too. It sounds to me as if they plan on doing online courses for an even longer period of time :(
@@xy1784 maybe it will be changing as the situation is unstable now.. Just guessing tho
I totally agree with this. Having that year off will be really good for you to build your career too. If you got in once, you will definitely get in again.
Personally I’d reapply. Just like you, the in person experience is SO important to me. Probably more important than the degree.
Who even cares? This is something that absolutely does NOT matter.
Unis can't handle mass deferrals as it could have knock effects when other people apply to uni in the future.
@@imanepink agreed cause what happens to all the new applicants would that not limit available spot.
You already know how to apply to Harvard and what they're looking for so you have it a little easier to reaply maybe :)
Dani agreed!
I completely agree!
i completely agree, plus it give her time to explore other things such as work life. There is much that can be achieved within a year. She can apply the following year.
I do think Harvard should let everyone defer! They should take that burden
same
If everyone defers, how could they accept new freshman? It sucks, but they can’t have a freshman class that is double the size. The tuition cost is ridiculous though.
I mean, they got enough money, they could afford it
@@sonjaloh4504 They definitely have enough money to make tuition free, but I still don't see how they could have a huge class size with the size of lecture halls and amount of professors.
@@phoebebuffay1566 I love your positivity!
The only thing that sucks here the most is the tuition fee, and honestly I don’t think
It’s fair to charge the same price but you know...
I agree 👌🏾
thats what i'm thinking .
Totally agree!
Couldn't have said it better myself!
completely agree. theres no point spending that much money and being miserable ❤️
You could pull a Rory Gilmore and apply to other high-standard schools, like Yale (next year). It doesn't seem worth it to me to do the online classes
Aaaye a gilmore girls reference! Love to see it 😂
This entire video I was just thinking of that episode when Lorelai and Rory visited Harvard
SAME literally rewatching Gilmore girls in lockdown
Lol I was just abt to comment this!!
This is amazing
I think you should do online. If studying this particular course is your dream, you should do it - I wouldn't count on this all blowing up in a year. I think it could very well be years until everything opens up again. The risk of not getting in again for me would be too much. If you only want to study there for the experience then leave. But if you want to do this course and theres no other option for you then do online.
This decision is stressing me out and it’s not even mine lol
same! like i can't even imagine having to make this decision.
same , it’s a very difficult and sensitive decision to make I hope that vee would make the right choice 🥺🥺🥺
Vee I watched this entire vid and here are my thoughts:
1) Your heart is set on the experience. Honour this & believe in yourself!
2) The reapplying is scary, but you are more than capable. You will always wonder if you could have had the true experience if you go ahead this year...
3) You'll also get another year to make finances more comfortable! It's crazy tution hasn't changed (& I'm shocked by their stance...)
4) Also think about class timings!
💯 💯💯💯💯💯
DON'T SETTLE. EVER! DECLINE! Deep down, you know the answer
Word!!!
you did it once with OXFORD, you did it once with HARVARD, like sis you've already proven that you can do it
Vee I have been following you for a while and I literally cried when you got into Havard. ♥️
Couldn’t agree more with a complete stranger. 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
@@lilihassan4369 I definately agree!!
Pros
•Will be able to receive your Harvard degree
•Will be able to do your preferred subjects
• May have a chance of going to Harvard later on as things can change.
Cons
•Don't Get the Harvard experience you want.
• Unessasary tuition fees for having to do online.
• May not get in next year if you defer
Agreed
Exactly
yes
Agreed
Imashi Kottachchi lol you writing it out like this made the decision even harder...idk. I’m an introverted person. I enjoyed doing my last bit of class online. Finished with good grades, past everything and felt great. But see I don’t care about the experience, I gotta pay anyway, and not getting it doesn’t seem worth it so I would just go and be a Harvard grad. However, she does seem very torn about this and wanted a real uni life....so for her I say she should re-apply.
THE FEE IS THE SAME ??? this is such a frustrating decision oh my god
it makes no sense.
Same for me in the Netherlands :/
@Hanna Aalen Same in Canada too... even for international students
asra Australian student here and yup same.
You already made the decision, deep down. Your heart is set on the experience of going to Harvard. Reapply
I agree
If you feel learning at home during times like this will affect your grades, reapply. If not, take this year’s offer!!!
I agree
hey girl. firstly ur amazing and u must never forget that.
my advice would be take ur place - in the long run it will be so worth it.
AJ I second this - asking this question is key to Vee’s decision making process.
But what if it’s both? To some people, Harvard isn’t harvard unless u physically are ther
Amina Marih yes I agree
The problem is that it’s an INSANE amount of money to take classes online!
VERY TRUE
I can’t imagine how difficult this decision is for you. I would look at this as whether Harvard can currently provide what you want from them- if not, especially for $51,000, I would look elsewhere or try again next year- just because it’s Harvard, doesn’t mean you can’t turn them down if they’re not giving you what you want! Good luck with your decision 😊
I think you can take it online but move to Cambridge - rent an apartment close to campus and still interact with other students and profs!
Hi iris!!!
*Havard*: costs 51 thousand dollars
Me, a student of KULeuven who only has to pay a thousand euros a year: WHAT
(seriously American tuition is insane)
51k is not the price per semester. There are lots of 'hidden fees' especially for an overseas student. Just going to a good state university in TX with instate tuition ... full time ... at least 50k ... no way Harvard is 51k + housing and food!
@@BritgirlTX Harvard has the best financial aid in the US! They make college extremely affordable and give money in the form of scholarships. I just looked it up and their financial aid website says that 100% of students graduate debt-free and that 20% of students don't have to pay anything to get in!
The amount of money flowing through that school is insane! She will definitely get her debts paid off.
Of course they’re academically rigorous schools, but if there’s an argument to made in favor paying 50k in tuition at Harvard or finding a cheaper university, I think the experience and connections you would have in-person at Harvard is
it.
Totally agree
Yess 100% true
Couldn’t agree more
Yes yes and yes!
That’s not fair, I’m pissed for you.
How can it be "meant to be". The pandemic surely hasnt happened just so Vee doesnt go to Harvard? I have never understood that sentiment.
Whoa this is such a well put and thoughtful comment where you thought of so many aspects!
this person typed a whole essay lmaooo
i 100% agree..depending on what field you want to go into the connections, and the education matter not where you got the education
It's JULLY. She’s dedicated to her making a good decision while stating all the facts she has to consider, I’m highly impressed by the dedication
This is such a tough decision, I’m so sorry! Sending you strength Vee xxx
These colleges are being grubby. You should automatically be given the option to defer for a year.
Agreed.. Atleast a provisional option.
It boils down to one thing: is having the Harvard experience your deal breaker? Or is having your degree your deal breaker?
sage mann SAGE advice.
Why thank you ;)
Seems like a deal breaker b/c she wants the in person experience. You can’t build the same connections online.
This!!! One of the best advice I’ve read.
@@CrazyFai me too
Such a valuable advice!
@@drveekativhu I'm so sorry, you really deserve to go the Harvard😔💜 Would it be a one or two year course?
@@drveekativhu I don't think its worth spending all that money just to do it from home, I know its your dream school.
@@Flimstudios5 100% agree
There’s a saying I love “when you put all the effort towards a particular goal, the whole universe helps you achieve it”
No matter what happens.
I really feel like HARVARD of all places should have a smarter solution than this 💔
I knowwww!!Like I got sooo annoyed and confused!!!
brit studying in US here. Many of Harvard's decisions are based on finances, they don't care about their students; why still charge full price?. This is not the best solution.
It’s very greedy of them to do that.
Doesn't seem that appealing to me
@@ArmouredUpArsenal AMEN. exactly, its all about money!!!
As u really want the personal experience - I would wait an reapply. If it is meant to be you will get in a second time :)
It’s true !
Cons of studying online this year:
As you mentioned, you won't receive the full Harvard experience (including networking face-to-face, extra-curriculars, accommodation).
You don't enjoy online learning as much.
Pros:
At the end of it, you still have a degree from Harvard, regardless of how you attained it.
In my opinion, you should study online this year, but whatever you do, I will still support you!
agreed. Vee always makes the best of a bad situation and I think this would be her chance to shine even brighter!
Agreed!
This is great.
Regarding:
"While studying online, you can still travel across the UK and have more time to focus on your other projects and goals - eg expanding your brand and outreach."
she could still do it even if she declines harvard. she'll have a full year (at least) to grow her youtube, side projects etc.
Online classes are harder than in person classes
Hey Vee, love your videos! I recently finished my PhD at Harvard in 2017. A couple thoughts:
- Since your degree is only one year, I’d recommend going at a time when you can enjoy the whole experience.
An edit to add on to this: The only thing that would tip my opinion towards you accepting, is if being apart of the Harvard alumni would actually be worth such an investment despite being online, but I don't know enough about that to say for sure
ok_ali also she would sound like a baddie by saying that she got into Harvard but rejected them
IzzyTelly HAHAHAHA
perfectly put- detach yourself from the glamour of Harvard and make a smart decision
IzzyTelly AHAHAHA true
Reapply Vee, you’ve done it once, you can do it again, easyy! Don’t stress yourself out. I would reapply, bc obviously you WANT the full experience!
just wait it out sis . It takes out the wholesomeness of uni xx.
I second that. Really pray about it as well as listen to the advice 💖 Chat to your mum about it as well 😊
this is so scummy and manipulative of harvard. shame on them! this is such a tough situation, but i can see how your heart is in an in-person harvard, so i day try reapplying
my vote is go. just imagine in one year, you will be a harvard alumni.
I would definitely re apply because I feel that one year out wont matter in the long run and that the experience will be well worth the stress in the future
agreed!
I agree
Already got Oxford on the resume, why pay all that money to sit in your bedroom?
@@CharlieVane21 THISSS! 👆 The debt is definitely not worth it
Charlie because it’s only for one year out of a three or four year degree
