Eddie Van Halen was asked what it felt like being the best guitarist, he replied that they should ask Roy Clark
Eddie isnt half as good as everyone thinks he is, theres far better.
Jimi said that about Buddy Guy
Why do you post this same comment on every single Roy Clark reaction?
Maybe chet atkins
No one, on the face of the earth, can complete with Roy Clark, even if you do not like country music. He was flawless in playing any instrument.
"Yesterday When I Was Young" is my all time favorite by Roy Clark. anyone else like this one?
Thank you for the heart, I appreciate it very much!
Hell yeah!!!
@@damoon2631 Thank you for your reply! I'm glad you agree!
Oooh yes my friend, I loved it, loved Roy period, never missed hee haw because Roy was in it. Your talent was unreal my friend, how we miss you Roy! Be at peace ❤❤❤❤😢
@@user-tj7vj6ns8l I also loved Hee-Haw and in fact bought some of the old episodes on DVD, I'd love to be able to get the entire series but it is not available at this time! Thank you for your reply!
I could listen to that part that sounds like flamenco stomping all day every day.
Roy Clark is sooo under rated as Musician in general... Thee Best at anything string related !!
His speed in this clip and alternate picking on a 12 string guitar. His version of "Orange Blossom Special" with Johnny Cash is impressive. He was with us up to 2018 and was star of a long running tv show from 69 to 97. An amazing career and performer.
Love this live version of "Malaguena". Roy Clark was such a great entertainer, humble man & super talented. He was both a singer & musician. His guitar & banjo playing are legendary. A lot of musicians & artists today could learn a lot from his style & technique.
Some things you probably didn’t know about Roy Clark. He was an excellent athlete. He was invited to spring training by the St. Louis Browns, he didn’t go because he didn’t have money for the train fare. He also boxed professionally as a light heavyweight, winning 15 bouts. By 1950 he had his own band and added fiddle, piano, trumpet, trombone, and drums to his list of instruments played. He also performed a comedy act during the band’s breaks. He played lead guitar for Jimmy Dean’s Texas Wildcats, and Wanda Jackson’s band. There’s more, this is only a partial list.
Oh my God ! What talents,, I didn’t know about that,,I have watched and listening to his music for years, so much respect for Roy Clark ❤
Only one word: Astounding.
This man played for the absolute Joy of just playing the guitar .you can see it his face .he is a legend
Lightning fast - I don't see how he has any nails left. Beautiful performance. Yes, I agree he seems like the nicest guy ever. A twinkle in his eyes & beautiful smile!❤❤❤
Roy Clark's strumming leaves even Pete Townshend's work in Pinball Wizard in the dust.
He was a humble master.
What an awesome performance. It's always a pleasure to listen to Roy play. Intense -- yet fully engaged with the audience.
Perhaps he is under-appreciated by many folks, but he is well-known by his peers as one of the finest guitarists ever.
He wrestled every ounce of sound that instrument had in it out. Amazing. To see his will to keep playing at that level. It was like he was at war and smiling the whole time.
Roy was unreal. I’m no fan of country music. But, no doubt he was the best of all time. A master.
Then why you hear?
I remember as a kid, my Mother took my sister and I to see him in Concert at Barton Coliseum in Little Rock. We were in the nosebleed seats in the back. I saw him play the Guitar, Banjo, Trumpet and Clarinet. NOBODY could beat his skills
As this song is for the Flamingo Dance. Towards the end the tapping on the guitar while strumming Was in the rhythm and to bring in the foot work of the dancer.
Roy is famous in guitar circles but outside of that, you think of him as an entertainer. A humble guy and a comedian in the country music world. All true of course, but this man was one of the greatest guitarists of all time. Nobody can begin to shred like he did. A true genius and a multiple instrument person.
Incredible!!! He can make more music come out of those 12 strings than I even knew existed. Yesterday When I was Young, is my favorite. Roy Clark has always had a super nice-guy approach; I feel like he's a very kind and sensitive person and it shows in the way he sings that song. In my opinion, nobody sings it quite so well.
I LOVE that you are appreciating this humble legend. I grew up watching him on Hee-Haw back in the day and have recently stumbled on this footage! I can’t help but smile and thank goodness for UA-cam keeping this golden memory alive for us to enjoy for years to come!!! Roy would probably shrug off your accolades with a smile if he could see your reaction!
I agree.
Wow! That is so intense! I've never seen Malagueña played like that, on a 12 string! Amazing!
I had heard his name, but wasn't really familiar with him. Roy Clark is definitely one of the all time masters of guitar. 💜
I’ve always said you could shove a broomstick into a cereal box, attach some rubber bands, hand it to Roy and he’d fire off a tune.
If the video you're reacting to here is correct, the performance would have been about 1993/94 making him 60 or 61 years old. I got to see him in concert in 1996 in Ohio; it was amazing and Malaguena was his closer. My wife who is a classically trained flautist sat next to me mouth hanging open in disbelief at this performance. Roy Clark = GOAT
Freakin awesome!!
My favorite Roy Clark song is probably Dueling Banjos with Buck Owens or Orange Blossom Special with J. Henley. Both are from his days on HeeHaw.
Roy was asked once how and why he preformed so well every performance. He stated this may be the only show a fan would ever pay for and they deserve his best.
They don’t make em like that anymore.
You don't think that's what Taylor Swift would say? kidding of course. you're right, that mold is broken
@@maddog6542 😆
And just to think, I watched this on TV every week when I was a teen!!! I loved it!!! Roy Clark was a special talent!!!
My favorite is Thank God and Greyhound Your Gone.
I’ll have to check those out soon!! 😁
One song, long title
The thing he could do was amaze an audience and you think that's it. He would kick it up another notch.
Hello Michael Duffy, I thank you for the " Yeoman's work " that you do to bring Roy Clark to a new audience. " Don't it always seem to go. That you don't know what you've got until it's gone. " - Joni Mitchell
This has got to be a hard hard hard song to play when Roy Clark has to concentrate while playing
The more I watch Roy play this song, I get the feeling it’s less about him playing it and more like he is channeling the spirit of the song.
Thank you so much once again for introducing amazing things to me that I most likely would of missed out on in this lifetime.
Thanks a million Scott !!! Appreciate that glad to help! 😂🙏
@@michaelwduffy You're very welcome.
You're definitely in the higher echelon of my top 5 favourite reactors list in my head.
Your empathy and love towards all human beings is inspiring to me like Ren and Roland are to me personally.
@@michaelwduffy There are videos out there with Roy playing banjo with the same skill level as guitar. He and Buck Trent are two very gifted and very funny players. I'm giving you two links one where Roy is playing with a 9-10 year old banjo player Jimmy Henley that upstages Roy's playing on the fiddle. Then Roy with Buck Trent doing a version of Dueling Banjos.

When he plays he is in a different world and time zone than the rest of us. Yet still able to connect to his audience.
Roy was a BEAST! Rest in peace Roy, play for God now,
Clark, an amazing entertainer at many levels.
a very long time ago i heard a live album of his where he said to the audience " I'd like to do a medley of my hit now" and he played "Thank God and Greyhound She's Gone"....
Dang! Wow! impressive! "Putting it in a fruit jar"..a poke at folks who put toothpicks in Avocado seeds, set it in a jar to sprout & then plant it in the ground. Used to watch him on TV...a hundred years ago!
HA! Great video Michael.👍😎💯
The finest guitar picker ever...
My new obsession is watching guitarists reacting to Roy Clark and realizing they aren't worthy
Roy was great! Compares to Eddie Van Halen's Eruption solo done live!!!! You will be amazed!
hi michael, having a good Saturday ??? never heard of this guy before and i think i've definitely been missing out here. his guitar skills were awesome. gonna have to go and check him out now. another great find, another great reaction from yourself that was fun to watch and great music to listen to. can't really go wrong with all that on your side.
Thanks so much Julie!!! I’ve reacted to him a few times god definitely broke the mold after they made this dude!!! LOL
You should the watch version of the malagueña by Paco de Lucía. Truly special.
Legend has it that Roy Clark could not only tune a banjo, but make it sound great too.
OMG!!!! I'm blown away!!!
Yesterday when I was young. Love it!
One of my favorite songs.
Legendary master
Amazing and Very Highly Underrated !
Classical Gas!
He's not 70's there. Lol. But he's was a great musician.
Still gives me the chills!!!!!!
That was the most amazing strumming ever
Wtf is a jar of mayo doing on the back of your couch??? And yes, Roy Clark is a legend!!
No one ever talks about him being one of the greatest.look up his playing.hes phenomenal
Another classic country performance you might want to check out is The Auctioneer by Leroy VanDyke. He first recorded it in the mid 50’s but there’s a great B&W video from
1962 on UA-cam. You won’t hear insane guitar playing like Roy but you’ll see why this song would be a blast in a karaoke bar.
Roy Clark, Glen Campbell and Jerry Reed are some of the best guitar talents out there.
Try to find them playing together.
He and Buck Owens did some great songs together.
Watching Roy, sometimes you kinda forget to breathe. Lol
My three all time favorite pickers are Roy Clark, chet Akins, Jeff Beck, runner up Billy strings. Thanks for these videos
I think you were drooling.
awesome!!!
Cool 😎 video , nice 🎶🎶👍
Thanks Steve!!
Watch him and Johnny Cash doing The Orange Blossom Special or him and Glen Campbell doing Ghost Riders. Will not disappoint. Great reaction
Yes! Both of those are fantastic!
He was the best there has ever been.pretty safe to say.
Now that is what Great looks like!
I saw him on a show playing bed springs that someone brought as a challenge and he play it very well.
lol! I bet it was awesome
I guess it wasn't hard enough on a 6 string...why not 12?.....amazing!
I love Roy Clark's music. He was the host of Hee Haw for 28 years. Excellent show, check it out. Also, check out Glenn Campbell and Ricky Scaggs. Ricky is still performing, However, Glenn died of Alzheimer's a few years ago. His son and daughter now perform his music.
he was on the Hey Haw show,
I always liked that Eddie Van Halen called him the best guitar player
That was a 12 string Roy Clark The greatest of all time RIP, GOAT
Charro does a great rendition of this song too
Roy Clark was so good they used to call him the Roy Clark of guitar playing.
Has anyone out there heard Charo play this? She is also fantastic.
You should watch Roy Clarks cover of The Great Pretender
Roy Clark was a genius, not only play anything with strings, but played many of them at a Masters level.
I am surprised not to see any reactions to Tommy Emmanuel. He is widely regarded as the best living guitar player and is arguably one of the best of all time. His performance of Classical Gas is mind numbing. Would like to know your thoughts.
Hello Michael Duffy, is that how a twelve-string guitar is supposed to be played? He played a six string Martin D-18 Dreadnought on the " Odd Couple ".
Incredible, no doubt. I don't play guitar, but it seems to me that that kind of furious strumming would peel back all of the skin on your fingers and mangle your fingernails, as well.
Holy s**t!
Michael: you might want to view other versions of this Spanish (Cuban) classic, especially 'Charro' (she's not hard to look it), she's underappreciated as a classical guitarist because of her 'kookie' behavior, but to many (classical guitar) aficionados she is well regarded and admired. Give her a view (please!).
He slays this song on electric or acoustic. None better.
He’s playing it on a 12 string, whilst it’s usually played on a standard 6 string! At times, he makes it sound like a mandolin.
Whats with the f**king mayonnaise jar behind your head..?..lol😂
Folsom Prison Blues!!!
He learned in Mexico and Texas
They called him old lightning fingers
Roy is a brilliant musician , basically can play anything with strings , great singer songwriter on top of that ,
I love Roy Clark, but if you have not yet seen Marcin on America's Got Talent, you absolutely should.
Your words are spot on. Roy Clark was/is the greatests gutarists. Period.
Anyone notice that he is playing a 12-string guitar?
Hey friend check out roy clark playing black sapphire done live on hee haw. Greatest to ever pluck a string 😊
Roy was an Oklahoma boy. Salt of the earth!
Hi there! It would be awesome if you reacted to Cecilia Bartoli singing Agita da due venti, there's a live video where she's wearing a dark red dress that I think is the best one. I hope you can do it. If you've never heard it you'll be mindblown. Cheers!
You should check out Glen Campbel too.
Please do Roy Clark and Johnny cash doing Folsom orison blues
He was the hardest working guy out there and thats the only way to get this good. He would play the hardest songs to play like this one that will burn your hand right off. Roy Clark was simply the best guitar player ever and some might say better thn Richie Bricker, yours truly. I can only play parts of these songs and he does it with ease
Start watching Hee Haw ,,,,, Best Show ever….
Ask Chet Atkins that question!
"Classical Gas"
That , on a twelve sting is un real !!!
Check out this video... Roy Clark and Jimmy Henley - "Orange Blossom Special"
