    I think that Voldemort wouldn't have shown the other Death Eaters the process of creating a horcrux because he feared that one of them, one day, would believe they were stronger than he and try to over thrown him...or, if they knew the process, they would seek out his horcruxes themselves to destroy them so that they could take his place. Maybe not for Bellatrix, but for the other Death Eaters - I could see him thinking this.

    I personally think Voldemort wouldn't have shared the knowledge of Horcrux creation even with his closest supporters. As he told Snape right before murdering him; "Only I can live forever". I take what he meant was as someone who saw himself above everyone else, he may have felt only he and no-one else deserved to be immortal. Allowing others to create their own Horcruxes meant he would no longer be that special snowflake he so desperately wanted everyone to see him as, and it would also mean he would have to share some power with those he grants immortality to and we all know Voldy was never big on sharing.

    So! A different video made me ponder the creation of a horcrux so I'm gonna share the current sketch of my idea.
    Creating a horcrux, much like becoming an animagus, is a permanent change to your soul and thus takes preparation in order to get the soul ready to be shoved into a different vessel. This is how it's possible to make one on accident, as was sort of done to harry, Warts had done the prep work and his soul was primed to be rehomed once split. The final act of creation involves three things: the victim, the object, and the sacrifice of part of your physical self.
    The process is something like this. You must mark and prepare the part of you that will be sacrificed by carving the needed glyphs and runes out of your own flesh (potterverse magic is generally missing glyphs and runes but it's too cool to not exist). That flesh must then be held in your mouth as it rots away to nothing (this is actually where Warts got the name Death Eaters). This, of course, can take quite a while to get your self glyphed up. There are likely also potions and things that must be created and drunk, likely involving more dead things. All of this essentially carves a fracture point into your soul so WHEN you murder your victim it splits off THAT part of you.
    Once all of the prep work is done you grab your victim, your soon to be horcrux vessel, and you kill the victim. Your soul splits. Your runes and glyphs trigger. Your sacrificed body part vanishes in a puff of black smoke. Finally, if you've prepared everything correctly, the piece of your soul that is floating bodiless gets sucked into the vessel. Bob's your uncle and you have a horcrux.
    Things that could go wrong! Your glyphs/focus could fail and you splinch yourself. ALL of your soul gets sucked into the vessel which is now a cursed object. You fail to bind your soul splinter and it gets released (source of dementors maybe? always trying to feed to complete themselves?). And your victim has a powerful mother's love enchantment on them so your magic rebounds, sacrifices YOUR WHOLE BODY, and the soul splinter latches onto something uncontrolled, such as (maybe likely) the victim.
    By the time Old Warts got to Harry there wasn't much left of his physical self. However, he also knows that sweet spell that gave wormtail the silvery hand. Under He Who Must Be Mocked's robes he's probably mostly silvery all the body parts.
    I'm kind of proud of sketch. It's gross and hard. Unlikely that many people would be THAT committed to immortality to be willing to disfigure and maim themselves and walk around with their own rotting flesh in their mouths for months on end. A quick one-time super gross act or five isn't that much of a stretch for dark wizards who throw unforgivable curses like their expiration date is running out. 8)
    Oh, and I think part of the proper initiation into being a death eater is carrying rotting flesh in your mouth (likely your own) just so Warts can gloat in his own mind that none of the others has the fortitude to do what is required. Not that he tells them /why/ it's required or that it's involved in horcruxes or how one would even approach making one.

    I doubt he ever outright stated it to them, as Lucius Malfoy (his second-in-command) wasn't aware that he held a piece of the soul of his master when he was given the diary and Regulus Black clearly spoke about uncovering a secret, so I don't think that anyone was informed about what Voldemort exactly had done. However, they had witnessed his transformation over the years and likely questioned if everything was alright, whether or not he was wounded or not and or if he needed help and I think that his answer to their worry was always the same: a grim, arrogant assurance, he was better than okay and that the alterations to his body were all deliberate and all in service of his immortality. Anyone who valued their life would have dropped the topic soon enough. But the severe physical alterations were enough to sell the idea that he had taken extreme measures.
    But I don't believe that the inner circle of the Death Eaters at least were unaware of the possibility of horcruxes. Yes, it is rare magic but there are a lot of strong hints throughout the magical world that a lot more people were aware of the existence of the ritual than we are let to believe. Without much information to go by Regulus Black knew what Voldemort hid in the cave. A lot of wizards and witches with an interest in the Dark Arts would have explored the theoretical side of it at least, either out of curiosity or for academic/professional purposes. I mean, take Aurors, it would be very practical in their line of work if at the very least, they would be able to recognize such magic, rare as it was and perhaps there were even Unspeakables on the department of mysteries researching horcruxes in the Chamber of Death. And Slughorn knew about them and he wasn't a dark wizard, just one who enjoyed being in the know on a lot of things. Sure, Hogwarts Library no longer held those books but who is stopping a bookstore in Knockturn Alley from selling those titles? (I'm definitely sure that they have bookstore there dedicated to the Dark Arts).
    So the question isn't really whether or not, they knew it was possible to extend your lifespan that way, it is more a question, did they believe Voldemort would take that route and on that front I think most didn't believe that. I believe they convinced themselves he found another way and would divulge the information on a later date to them. (Off course he won't but hey, people can dearm). The reason why they didn't believe it, is because the creation of a Horcrux is even considered disturbing to Dark Wizards, it is the bridge too far and I think many underestimated just how wicked Voldemort was and therefore wrongly assumed that he wouldn't have done that to secure his immortality. Had Bellatrix known that her master had created a Horcrux, she wouldn't have followed I believe as it was just a bit too far and instead still would have settled for the great honor to continue his bloodline to assure the blood of Slytherin would continue to flow. (As for why Voldemort would want offspring... Probably another dark ritual to extend his life, we do know that dark magic doesn't necessarily shy away from using family members as ingredients in their processes and his Horcrux plan was already coming undone with the destruction of the Diary... A plan B wasn't a bad idea.)

    One question: In the books and movies it’s mentioned that taking someones life splits your soul. Voldemort created seven horcruxes and creating those needs this unknown process. But since killing splits your soul (regardless if you want to create a horcrux or not I suppose) Voldemort must have split his soul in way more parts than seven, right? And while splitting your soul changes your appearance like it did on Tom Riddle, why didn’t it do on Bellatrix for example?
    In my opinion Bellatrix didn’t create a Horcrux, because Voldemort didn’t tell anyone how to do so, because he wanted to be the only one to be immortal and the most powerful wizard, standing above all others.

    • @paulgraf5746
      @paulgraf5746 2 роки тому +11

      My theory is that the souls splits when you kill, but the two pieces are still inside you. And that’s the complicated part, putting it into an object. I can also imagine that the split soul “grows” back together after some time like a broken bone. That’s why you can’t create a horcrux out of a person you killed 10 years ago, you only have a limited amount of time after the murder

    • @laporziuncula
      @laporziuncula 2 роки тому +6

      There’s more to the creation of a horcrux than just murdering someone. He almost certainly murdered more people but not every murder he committed was part of the creation of a horcrux. There’s plenty of wizards who killed people but created no horcruxes.

    • @ashersharol
      @ashersharol 2 роки тому +5

      I think it's the horcrux-creation that made Voldy more and more inhuman, not the splitting of his soul itself. You're correct to say murdering splits the soul, but I'm pretty sure that the mentioning of Voldy's seven part soul only came about because he split his soul AND encased those seven soul fragments in a way that renders it permanently separated from the body.

    • @ashersharol
      @ashersharol 2 роки тому +1

      @@paulgraf5746 I know we're all speculating here, but I somehow disagree with this. I don't think the soul grows back together. It wouldn't explain why Voldy's face is permanently inhuman. It also would somehow redeem him in some way. I believe his soul is somehow permanently disfigured especially after creating a horcrux. However, I agree that there is a limited time after a murder that one can create a horcrux.

    • @mikebrown1881
      @mikebrown1881 2 роки тому

      @@ashersharol the soul grows back together. If not, how can the wizard could choose witch part he will put in a horcrux? Souls become unstable when ripped apart, so Voldemort would have become crazy with his (at least) one thousand pieces of soul.
      It is not because a soul can grow back together that this soul is not soiled, perverted. Like when you break a mirror: even repeared you can still see the cracks. That's why Voldemort's soul is so broken when we see it in the limbo.

    Bellatrix is like Belor from 1981's "Into the Labyrinth", especially if she attained near-immortality.
    As much as she thinks she loves Voldemort, upon attaining similar power and immortality, she would lose respect and seek to subjugate or destroy him.
    Voldemort relishes the strength of Bellatrix' blood purity, her ferocity and devotion to him; but ultimately he sees her as a weapon: though skillful and ruthless, weak in character. I think he had more genuine care for Nagini.

    I get the idea of Bella and voldi having a kid as a functional thing, just to continue the blood line. But there is still a few problems. First it would make since that Voldemort would be unable to conceive a child. Because he is so inhuman and so little humanity is actually there. Also I don't really like how in the theory Voldemort had some sort of feelings for Bella. Or that he was worried about the child. I don't even see Bella caring. Voldemort really only cares about himself. It doesn't sound like Voldemort to feel such feelings. I know it is possible but is just doesn't sound likely. But still a very interesting video. Personally I don’t think Voldemort’s own hubris would allow him to share the secret to Horcruxes with anyone, even Bellatrix. They may have known he made them, or that he pursued immortality, but not the actual process. After all, he’s the chosen descendent of Salazar Slytherin, Voldemort, the only one worthy of being immortal. I believe Voldemort’s megalomania is the true reason Bellatrix never could. Even his most important lieutenants were disposable to him, useful tools but not trusted comrades. I don’t think it’s about Voldemort believing them incapable of handling the process, but unworthy of following his path.

  • @GaiusMarius65

    I’ve always had an issue with the idea that Bellatrix & Voldemort hid Delphini because they were worried about her safety in the event of their deaths. Maybe just to generally keep her safe, but their deaths were never a consideration.
    From Voldemort’s perspective his horcruxes made that an impossibility and Bellatrix was arrogant enough to believe no one could defeat her.
    TBTH I just don’t see Voldemort caring about anyone enough, child or not. He was a complete malignant narcissist. I also don’t see him caring about the continuation of his “bloodline”. He was immortal so a child would only be a distraction and a point of weakness. Bellatrix, evil as she was, did care about her family. I’m at a loss to see how she’d have convinced him to impregnate her.
    On the subject at hand I believe Voldemort would have kept the specifics of horcrux creation to himself. He might have told a select few, such as Bellatrix, that he’d made them, and what they did, but I whole heartedly believe he would have told them that only he was capable of creating them.

      The one person one could argue was somewhat closer to Voldemort than your average Death Eater was Snape, probably because of his subconscious affiliation with people who are Half-blood like him, same reason why he picked Harry over Neville as the child of the prophecy, to the point that he revealed the secrets of unsupported flight to Snape.

    In short, he was not only on the ropes, again, but now his life itself (the only thing he ever truly valued, even Bellatrix was just a more useful pawn than most) was looking at a very imminent end.

    A bit odd to say that "only two known wizards have discovered how to perform it", considering all the detailed instructions were written inside a book in the Restricted Section (before dumbledore took it to his office). Most likely they were just wise enough not to do it.
    And voldemort Definitely wouldnt have shared his secrets with anyone, otherwise someone would have overthrown him easily. Not to mention he was basically an emotionally stunted egotist, "only I can live forever" and all

    I’m my opinion the reason Voldemort didn’t tell her how is because if he told her about Horcruxes, he feared Bellatrix might have found out how to destroy them. Now you might say that she would have had to figure out what Horcruxes Voldemort had made, and judging from her knowledge, the most she could have done would have been to destroy the Cup, which Voldemort entrusted her to put it in her vault, but remember that Voldemort’s worst fear is death, and he was simply too paranoid to give anyone so much as a hint on how to destroy him.
    Another counter-argument would be that Bellatrix was incredibly loyal to Voldemort, but remember that Voldemort has no friends, and trusts no one, not even Bellatrix.

    I hadn’t thought about this before, but I think you are right. Voldemort had already turned some of the Hogwarts House Emblems into horcruxes and this is one reason to hide away the Sword of Griffendor in Bellatrix’s very secure vault: to use it later to make another horcrux (the other reason being to prevent its use to destroy existing horcruxes).
    Tom Riddle craved attention and adoration in addition to power, and no one gave him more than Bellatrix. She was unique. She was also such a powerful, ruthless witch that she might well be able to make a horcrux under his guidance. I think he planned to help Bellatrix turn the Sword into a horcrux after he won the Wizarding War and his power was unchallenged. He would want the comfort and reassurance of keeping the reliable adoration of Bellatrix during his eternal life. He was human enough for that. I can’t see him doing it for anyone else, though he might promise it to get their full allegiance. The name “Deatheaters” suggests the defeat of death after all. Perhaps after the war was won he planned to stage horrifying unsuccessful attempts at horcruxes by some prominent, no longer useful lieutenants. That would scare off the others, except for Bellatrix, who he would secretly genuinely guide in the process.

    I've always wondered something about Horcruxes. Do you have to kill someone at the moment of its creation or can you kill someone, wait a little while, then make the Horcrux? If Bellatrix did try to make a Horcrux, would she have needed to kill someone else to do it? Or could she have used one of the murders she'd already committed?

  • @HeroInHisHead
    @HeroInHisHead 2 роки тому

    It's always important to note that due to how Voldemort was conceived (via love potion) he is literally incapable of feeling love and many of his more positive emotions towards other people are stunted. Because of that he doesn't care for his lieutenants in the sense of them as people. Rather he had lost one of his most valuable tools. Voldemort treated those who were loyal and beneficial to him with respect and civility but it was often misunderstood as affection for them as people. It wasn't. He saw their value and usefulness in the same way we look at a vehicle or an appliance. We all would be livid if our car broke down when we needed it most. Just as voldemort lost it when his best lieutenant was killed infront of him. Never misunderstand that he didn't care for Bellatrix. She was just the sharpest tool in his shed. That's also why the Malfoys fell so far for him to the point they were being mentally tortured despite their years if service. They were no longer reliable and the "civility and respect" went away with their usefulness.

    Good question, not many people knew about this, since he only wanted immortality and anyone who knew ended up dead. He didn't tell Bella anything expect guard the sword, because of whatever reason he gave. She followed him blindly, so she wouldn't need to ask questions...but like...it would be interesting if she did.....or tried to. Now either it was from those trinkets who multiplied in her vault....or the result went wrong and somehow ended up pregnant (Delphie). A lot of dark magic here, and it does require sacrifices and a hell of lot of power to do it.....so it is quite a different theory to what we all thought here. Maybe, her Horcrux is a living breathing daughter, instead of a magical item.

    I think that Voldemort would never give the ability to resist his total control to anyone, not even his most trusted ally. His first goal was his own immortality. His second was complete domination of the muggle world by pure-blood wizardry. But his prime goal was total control of the entire world by his immortal self. To give up any part of that control to someone else would have been, to him, unimaginable.

    I don't think either one of them were capable of love. You never said Bellatrix loved him, but you used the word obsessed. She was not in love with V. She was like him, in that she valued power above all else, and V embodied that value. But V wouldn't love anyone. It would be a sign of weakness. V used B as a valuable tool, and Snape, too. B even used her nephew, Draco and her sister and brother-in-law. I think B would have jumped at the chance to be immortal, but forever is a long time. Eventually she would have come to hate V because they were too much alike. If she could weaken him with trickery and pretended love,, she would have eventually killed him and became queen in his place.

    I believe Belletrix and Lucious both knew about them, maybe not specifics on making them or how many Voldemort made, but he entrusted each of them with one to keep safe. Belletrix freaked when she realized someone had been in her vault... and if Lucious truly did believe Voldemort was gone, that would lend motive and justification for his actions in 1992 to follow the instructions he was left when Voldemort gave Tom Riddles diary to him for safekeeping. Possibly a stronger case for Lucious knowing than Belletrix as we don't know if she had instructions on how to use the cup to bring him back.

    It makes su much sense! But actually I have another theory: I could imagine that he some how had feelings for her but still called love and caring for friends weak. So I think he didn't told her how make a horcurx because he forced himself to "not care about her". I mean, if she was so important to him, he could have trained and helped her. But he didn't. He would have done it to save her life wouldn't he? But he didn't want himself to be dependent and vulnerable because of her. Obviously when she died he still was. He wouldn't admit it to himself but when she actually died it was harder to him than he expected because maybe he never allowed himself to really think about what he feels for her. So when she died it shocked him on so many levels. Guess he isn't immune to love. He just wants it so badly and is afraid of losing it.

  • @wknight8111

    I think it's weird to explain something in terms of "Voldemort cares too much". We have to remember that voldemort was cynical, arrogant and dismissive. Even allowing the fact that he had a slightly-less-impersonal physical relationship with Bellatrix, he still probably didn't have a lot of respect for her in general. If the dark lord gives away his magical secrets, he risks there being other "dark lords" that he might have to contend with. It's far better for him to keep his most powerful magics a secret, and to keep himself firmly above his underlings in every way. Only the people who are talented enough to figure it out on their own are worthy of being told the secret, and they don't need to be told.

    Let me chime in, for although I respect you as a fellow HP-connaisseur, this is one of tje rarer moments I find myself at odds with some of your statements.
    First of all, yes, Voldemort does mention his followers having known about some of the steps he had taken in order to achieve immortality but it is a well-established fact that he is absurdly secretive and sly (even after regaining his power and grip, he prefers to operate behind the scene for at least a year following the events of TGOF, distrustful (he continously tests even his most trusted followers’ loyalty; kudos to Narcissa for pulling a lie off like that), paranoid, self-centred and he operates alone... I think he had only dropped hints, and mind that even the power he had amassed was quite impressive enough to make sure he wouldn’t die by someone else’s hand. Even RAB reveals in the locket that he had to discover the Dark Lord’s secret key to imortality, and RAB was one of the prime Death Eaters.
    Also, Voldemort wouldn’t want anyone ti share in the magic of horcruxes. He didn’t want his followers to live forever. Because he ultimately wanted to rule alone. Eventually, they would want a share or move against him.
    Why not tell Bellatrix? He saw her as a means. She was reckless though. And unhinged. He was also crazy, but held himself together.
    Besides, if you accept their having a child canon, then it still doesn’t make any difference. Voldemort only wanted to ensure another part of the Horcruxes: making utilisation of them possible and easy. He needed his father’s bones.
    Also, I don’t think that many people, including Death Eaters would even know about Horcruxes when even finding out about them had been eliminated. The book Riddle read about Horcruxes in and learnt to make them in, Dumbledore’d had it removed by the time Bella started attending Hogwarts. I believe Lestrange sr. was a member of Riddle’s circles. Plus there is the whole history of the Knights of Walpurga.

    I feel like it's a bit of a silly question. I mean, knowledge of Horcruxes was very well hidden, something that Voldemort himself counted on to keep everything under wraps, and he'd have never shared this knowledge with anyone for multiple reasons. Had a Death Eater with this knowledge been captured, they might have not been able to resist interrogation through legilimancy or veritaserum and thus giving away the secret to his enemies, revolt against him like in Regulus' case, or what's probably the worst-case scenario for Voldemort's mentality, actively challenge him with the same immortality status as him.

  • @MordechaiHershoffyoutube
    @MordechaiHershoffyoutube 2 роки тому

    Voldemort would never allow anyone to know the process or even that what he made was a Horcrux for Lucius didn't know what the diary and Snape had no clue that such a thing existed based on the fact that he and Dumbledore never had a conversation about it and that Snape wasn't to know all of Dumbledore's secrets about Harry and Voldemort either.
    So Bellatrix would not know that he made a horcrux she'd just know that he was immortal, and when he gave her his horcrux he didn't tell her it was that.
    And he said that they should know that he would live in the graveyard when Bellatrix wasn't there.
    Side Q. why did Voldemort put two horcrux's in Gringotts one to Malfoy and one to Bellatrix?

  • @ChaosUnleashed265

    I wonder sometimes... What would an immortal life be like, using horcruxes? I doubt it would stop the flesh from aging. At some point, I expect it would become agonizing and require more and more spells to maintain the body, or even replace it. It could be hundreds of years, but eventually they'd be so frail that they couldn't even lift a wand.
