Oooh thanks!!!!💜😁👍

I love old books & buy lots if the price is right LOL! If I don't use a book in my journals, it becomes a home decor piece - just a few books with pretty covers piled up with vases of flowers, candles, vintage trinkets & dishes stacked on top! I love the look, feel & even smell of old books. I have the Victorian flower book as well - it's so beautiful. I rescue old dictionaries from the recycle bin at the end of the school year when we are all clearing our out classrooms no matter the age or condition. Our school library periodically clears out books that have been damaged beyond repair or haven't been checked out for a very long time. Some of the gems I found were books about early American history. The pictures of the handsome gentlemen, beautiful ladies, and old homes will be used to decorate journals and the mostly text pages will be wonderful for sub-straits for master boards. I've also discovered I can use glossy pictures by covering them with Matte Gel Medium (a product somewhat like Mod Podge) so they look less "new" and blend in with vintage papers better. I've also found older children's book with lovely illustrations - rosy cheeked children with short pants (boys) and dainty dresses (girls) from times gone by. Thank you for sharing your list of qualities you look for in books. I think I unconsciously looked for books in a similar fashion, so having you discuss these points will help me be more purposeful when looking at books (or I may just continue to buy everything I take a fancy to)! Take care!
You have an unparalleled love of books, which I COMPLETELY understand 🤭🤣🤣👍💜 Thanks so much Shirley for sharing your passion. It's uplifting!!😁
Love this video! The folios are beautiful. My family tends to take books away from me when they can’t bear for them to be cut apart. I found a gorgeous book on Italian Opera and my daughter actually had tears in her eyes when she refused to let me use it for journalling!❤
I love my little GOLDEN GUIDE books, my chinese vocabulary book and my hand illustrated cook books for my journals.
They are a great mix, thanks for sharing your book choice!!👍❤️
I hope you scan & print that gorgeous Victorian Flowers book. It’s absolutely stunning! I couldn’t bring myself to tear those pages
I know what you mean 💜💜
All great books! I love old foreign language books and vintage children’s books with large fonts. The mix of language’s and font sizes add real interest in my backgrounds. I also find Field Guide books a great source for fussy cutting animals, birds, butterflies etc. Hugs and blessings, ❤️🤗🇨🇦
Absolutely excellent choices Laura, hugs too!!! 😁❤️👍
I love your collection of books. I buy many at the Goodwill. Biographies from last century often have old photos or sketches that I like to use in my journals.
They sound like lovely books!! 👍💜
I love old sketches and pictures of buildings I have found
I love this video. Of course, it makes me happy that I own some of the exact books you have shown. This is such a good list. My only additional suggestion would be a math or science book. I use them a lot for steampunk and masculine pages.
Now that's a wonderful idea.... I have a quantum physics book that I use. Great suggestion!!👍💜
Thank you, very similar to mine. I also collect books from the 1800s. Rachel Roxburgh inspired this. I have a butterfly guide for fussy cutting and several floras.
That sounds like a beautiful collection...xx
Again, thank you. Watching previous videos has already altered what I look for when book shopping: things like size, paperweight, and how text is visually pleasing. This video put it all into context. I will be watching it several times.
Ooooh fantastic!!!😁😁❤️👍
A great resource Joie! Inspired to spend my Sunday afternoon looking for books in charity shops :)
Oooh lovely!! Going to leave you an IG message... I have an idea for our Collab to run by you....
@@joiedefi ooooh yay :)
Thank you Joie for sharing your top 10 books. I have made some really bad purchases so this is a great help.
My pleasure Karen.... They're just a few ideas... 👍😁💜💜
This is a great video Joie for beginner journal makers! What's funny is that my sister in law can't seem to cut into her magazines or pretty books, lol! I keep teasing her to let go and break free and try it! She won't yet!
It's definitely a psychological battle . I completely understand 😁❤️
I want to start journalling, & love books, so would happily have them floor to ceiling. My husband doesn't share my enthusiasm for books though, so this is a really useful guide. Thank you! ☺️
They are such great books, I can hardly wait to get out to charity shops/car boot sales, etc to have a good rummage! 😃
Aaah, you can't beat a good rummage 👍🤣💜
Very informative video for beginners like me i started making junk journal after watching your videos
Fantastic!! Hooray 😁😁 It's fun isn't it 👍👍💜💜
Great collection of books! I agree on most of these… I seem to be particularly drawn to books with great drawings of plants and birds. Another I would add is a collection of children’s fairy tales - Grimm or Aesop, particularly the large format books. The font and pictures are brilliant!
That's a great point... Maybe I overlooked it... But which to remove to slot one in? 😁😁😁💜👍
Do you have a favorite mushroom book? I am addicted to all your videos. I play your videos while I work on my junk journal. We always craft together. ❤️ You are so talented! And I adore your voice. I can listen to you for hours... And I literally have.
Aaaah, that's lovely, thank you Amanda. I can't say I have a favourite mushroom book, that's something for me to think about!💜
I live in the US and I've found 2 books that have lovely green print and beautiful gardening and plant illustrations...they are educational as well. I use them in almost every journal. No color just green print and pictures. Ive actually found the first one twice now which is called LASAGNA GARDENING by Patricia Lanza i can't even tell you how much use i get out of it whenever i found the 2nd one i was ecstatic! The next one is called THE MEDICINE WHEEL GARDEN by E. Barrie Kavasch. This book has the same green printing and illustrations and also has lots of great uses for plants and "recipes" as well. I make a ton of floral journals and these books have been perfect for them plus most of the other journals i make! Of course i have my favorite floral books and dictionaries...i have my favorite childrens books and so many others but these 2 are so unique but so so useful i think any journal maker would love to have them in their collection!
Love these questions, Joie! Thank you!
Glad you like them!
Hello dear friend, Joie, this is without a doubt a triple 👍. I’ve been buying your suggested books since I began following you. The Victorian Flower Album I actually was fortunate enough to have two. 1 estate sale $3.00, the other at my favorite “Thrift Books” I’d have to agree with you, a # 1 favorite. I have hundreds of fussy cut flowers from the first. Pages used for collaging envelopes and pockets and creating pockets and fun envelopes. I have many things in my “Joie reference journal.” I also love my herb book as well. Again I love it for collage and tags. The nature one was what I was able to find at Thrift books. 10.00 always free shipping. Well done with Williams wallpaper of Andreas. I was very lucky to get 2 of his books. Every time I look through them I hate to cut yet. Gorgeous wallpaper. Gotta run, finish watching re play. Thanks Joie. Always ✅subscribe ✅ like 👍 ✅
You've been busy Cheryl! Take care sweetheart ❤️❤️❤️
Fantastic video - thanks so much. I was at my local secondhand bookshop yesterday and picked up two very interesting texts for junk journalling. One is a vintage book written in German, but the text in the entire book is like an old medieval gothic text. It’s also beautifully aged and patina. I also picked up a 1950s guide to stamp collecting, which has some fabulous black and white photos of stamps throughout.
Love the sound of both of those... I can understand why you picked them up! 😁💜👍
Hello Joie, I love your books..I'am running out off my books with flowers....and it's so nice to see your projects again...next week my husband and I going on a sort holiday..and going to viset a sharityshop or triftshop..can not wait teeeheee...have a lovely evening.
You're going to have a great time shopping for more books!!! 😁😁😁🤭💜
@@joiedefi Yes I'am !
This is brilliant using the water color! I love it.
YOU ARE AMAZING!!! Love all these ideas! A MILLION THANK YOUS!!!
You're very welcome.... 👍😁💜
Hello, dear Joie! "A Victorian Flower Album" arrived today in the post. It greatly surpassed my imagination.....It was beautifully bound in a lovely hardcover, and immediately, especially upon reading the loving inscription he'd written to his chikdren, I realized I could never cut it up. My solution may be to buy a second volume, or have this book professionally laser copied by the neighborhood printer. Thank you so very much for introducing this magical, scrumptious book to the junk journal community. I love all your beautiful videos! Sending you my best wishes and warm regards, from Fleur 🌹
That book truly is beautiful. I have bought several copies 🤭🤭, I completely understand. So pleased that you are enjoying yourself Fleur, I really appreciate your kind words 💜💜💜
Lovely, as always, thanks Joie!
Thanks Denise!💜
You have really hooked me to watching your insiteful videos!!! Your explanations are such treasures! My friends have actually asked me if I go to sleep at all lol!!! You are a true joy.
Hee hee.... Thanks so much Elizabeth!!😁👍💜💜💜
Found the complete Shakespeare book for 71p!! Yay. Cheap books are still out there. TFS
Yay, that's a big win!!❤️❤️
I absolutely love your videos and style and I watch them over and over. Thanks for sharing your things and ideas.
That's so lovely to hear Linda, I really appreciate it 🥰
This was a really enjoyable and useful video. I have a French dictionary in the same format as your Spanish one and I have found a way to persuade my ageing printer to print pictures on the pages (I use the A5 setting). I then use the pages to make pouch bags for the ephemera collections that I sell on eBay.
I love your videos, I always find that watching them makes me want to go off and make something.
Ooooh I LOVE that pouch bag idea!!!!
Thank you for sharing these books...I sometimes look forward knowing the names of some books that crafters use and you have a great list...
Nice explanation of why you've chosen the books you have. Thank you!
Wow, this is wonderful , Jodie!, Thank you for sharing ! hugs
And big hugs to you!!!😁❤️❤️❤️
I happened to buy the Victorian book today! Love it when I already have what I see being used. This is an important video. Helps newbies get a sense of what they really need 👍🏼
Awesome!!👍😁💜
Lovely video. You really made me think about how I will select my books in the future. Thanks a bunch!!!
Awesome!! Thanks Cheryl 😁💜
Hi Joie...I mentioned sometime ago that I got a lot of really old books 📚 from my grandmother. I also have a lot of books I bought when I was card making and doing scrapbooking. They answer all the questions she showed us. I haven't had t
Hi Paulette, I'm looking for the rest of your question/comment so I can answer it or respond to it ... I can't find it!
Great ideas on what types of books to look for, ty!
Hope it helps! Just my thoughts 😁❤️👍
Our local library has a used book sale every other month. In addition to the books you mentioned, Shakespeare, music paper, horticulture, etc., I found a great book maybe an 11 inch by 14 inch format that is Los Angeles Times front pages from 1900 to 1950. Great vintage newsprint! Also a beautiful book of Japanese calligraphy, as well as Illustrated Letters, and beautiful Impressionist art books. Most of them were purchased for $1. In one book I found a postcard that was post marked February 4, 1892!!
What a win!! You did well there Bonnie!!😁💜💜💜
Loved all the info. Thank you for sharing. So many ideas to try!!
You're very welcome!!💜😁
What a wonderful video! Thank you for sharing!❤❤❤

Thank you for all the useful information! I’ll have never thought of using a music sheet or a whole page from a book so this was great inspiration to use what I already got on hand ❤️

Thank you so much for this video, lots of inspiration.
Thanks!!😁👍💜
I bought the 1st 2 books before I watched the rest of the video! That k you for this! Next I’ll be after an atlas & a science book. The book I reach for most in my present collection is The Dictionary of Marks: Pottery & Porcelain. It’s a gorgeous collection of artist marks that I use for tiny collage clusters etc
Thank you so much for sharing this information. It is helpful.
Delighted to hear that!!😁❤️
Just would like you to know, how Grateful I am for you . Sharing all this has inspired me to try something new & list out my questions🥰 Blessings 💞

Joie l was just checking your channel for a new video and here you are with another splendid video!😊🌼l am enjoying the video so far and l'm sure it would be great!
Awww, such great timing!!😁🤭🤭💜
Great video Joie. A week ago I spent two days going to thrift/charity shops and found some books, maps, and a booklet teaching piano 🎹 so now I have some new stuff to use in my next journal. I’ve almost filled my first junk journal, will figure out how to do the front and back cover along with the spine. You’ve given me food for thought in how to start on the next one.
Thank you for sharing and taking time to teach your techniques.❤️😘☮️🇺🇸✨💐🐶🤗☀️
It's my pleasure Mags, I'm just so pleased to hear how happy you are playing with your journal. 👍🥰🥰🥰
Excellent video...TYFS your books, ideas & the why behind the what!! 💖I have that same Victorian Flower book...so excited when I found it, but haven't been able to bring myself to use it yet!! 🤭 Books are one of my favorite things to look for when thrifting...anything w/ flowers, music, birds & most especially butterflies!! 🌹🎶🐦🦋

Thanks Wendy!!❤️
Love your videos. Great, practical ideas for us lovers of paper crafts. I always look forward to your presentations but this one was extra special.
That's wonderful to hear, thank you 🥰
Wonderful list and great criteria to answer when buying! I have bought or found free books like these, but still lack some beautiful picture books, so now I know what I need to look for. Thanks for the help Joie!
My pleasure 🥰🥰🥰
I do love an Atlas to work with. I have a couple of other books (well, more than a couple) that you might find fun. A Latin grammar book and a shorthand book. I’ve also have a French dictionary and an Italian dictionary. Love them! Thank you for the great ideas!
Such great books, love languages in our pages and creations. Nice collection Kristy!👍😁💜
I have many books on my shelves that would be great for junk journaling - well aged pages etc - but because they have been with me for so long and are part of my life - i just can't bear to use them. The oldest is a dictionary I've had since 1956 - many novels 40 years plus and my fathers gardening books - goodness know how old they are. Hoping to get to some charity shops soon now that we are allowed out a bit more.
They become part of us over the years don't they Beryl. I understand 👍💜😁
Brilliant, thanks very informative, 👍❤️
Oooh thanks very much Eileen!👍😁

Hi, Joie! This is great! I am still torn between wanting an art journal and a junk journal. I've made both and have had fun with each. I just can't decide between them, so I make both! LOL
Sounds good to me!❤️
Awesome ideas ❤️
Thanks Debbie!!❤️😁
Very informative thank you
Thanks very much ❤️
I wish I could give this a thousand thumbs up! Such a wonderful video.
Awe so kind Judith 😁❤️
Wow! I love your list and reasons for having these particular books. I definitely will be asking those questions before I buy another book. I don’t have any of the books you have but do have similar themes. Like the flowers, the dictionary and such. What I would like to get is a landscape book to create covers also. That is such a wonderful idea! Thank you for sharing xx 💖
Similar sounds perfect, we all have different collections based on what we can find 😁👍💜
I love your list of books. I also love using math or engineering books, architectural drawing books and even old computer programming books. The newest to my collection are train scheduling books... 😉💙👍
Great eclectic style!!❤️
Really enjoyed this video! My must have (have 2) is Barlett's Book of Quotations. I usually use a great quote as a focal point. Can't bear to cover up a great quote. I also have 2 copies of the complete works of Shakespeare. One is nicely brown and aged. Also have many copies of Jane Austen. Can't go wrong with Jane.
A good bit of literature, always a winner 😁👍💜
Great video Joie, very informative for a newbie like myself 🙂
You're very welcome Veronica 😁👍💜💜💜
Thanks for the information.......I have gotten several similar books as yours.....and now a list of others.....😻
Sounds great 👍💜
I really needed this video. I was asking myself this very question: what books do I need to find next? Thank you for being amazing!
Oooh I'm blushing April 🤭👍💜💜💜
