Hooooooome Assistant!!! *humps the air viciously
Really want to dabble
Al that giving you goosebumps ha?😂
Hi Alex, thanks for the tour of your home and what a great job you have done. I have been setting up my smart home for some time now and thought I had done a good job but after seeing yours I now feel that I need to do more. Colin
It's funny that the smart plugs consumption is more than the standby tv 😆😆😆
Hi Alex, Loved to see the vid! Now i've done something similar with timecontrol and putting devices "off/on"... I've done that with Home Assistant (HA) (the base for my house, since i wanted all smart-home to be "offline" working. I've used the Unifi controller and connected it with HA... HA can now "see" when devices are connected to the wifi (or switches), in my case my mobile phones. So i 've created an action... turn at a rondom time lights on around dawn, and turn them off again IF phones are not at home (since i will turn them off myself when at home). Same goes with leaving the house turning things off. Now with that creativity there was an issue... because the phones randomly disconnect from the wifi to save batterypower, it created some inconvenient situations... :)...
What i did next was... i've added one "D1 Mini" in my car, wich connects to my home wifi... When the cars is "home"... it will not turn "off" the lights at a certain time. Now it also brings another advantage... since my car isn't the youngest and don't have a pre-heating unit in it (yet) i have made it so that when my alarm goes at 7am, IF the car "notices" (temperature sensor) that it is freezing, it changes the alarm to 10 minutes earlier. Very usefull and saved me by getting on time in the office. Extra effect from adding this to the car is to be warned IF the battery of my car is unhealthy and will notify me. Eventually will be adding more automations in the car more (like pre-heating). The D1 uses barely anything to say power so it's no problem to have it in the car running permanently.
The same concept is used in the office... when i arrive there, before I am IN the office the lights are already turned on, since the Unifi controller there "notices" the car too. And there u go... Basicly so many more features can be added, it all depends on the creativeness or strangeness of the brain... :)...
Anyway thank for for showing us around!
UDM pro has an operating temperature of -10 to 40 degrees Celsius. In UK you probably ok with the low end but your roof isn't insulated on the pitch, whilst your ceiling joists are (as they should be) - you'll easily exceed the upper operating temperature for the UDM and probably the less robustly made other switch, modem, hubs etc....
That kind of kit should be in a fan cooled rack somewhere with fresh air and/or air con.
Hope you have a fire extinguisher near the loft...
We told him this a couple of years ago with his previous house... Good learning ;-)
This is amazing! Living there would be so chill it seems
The power for your desk is very cool however I'd be careful turning the OLED off by the plug, when in standby it runs a panel refresh in standby mode to prevent burn in, if you turn it off by plug It cannot run this, particularly important if you are using it as a monitor.
How can a burn in happen when there is nothing on the screen? Im really asking, not making a joke or something. Thx
@@nikolakotrman7839its not burn while off It runs a panel cleaning whilst in standby to get rid of any image retention that has happened during operation
@@nikolakotrman7839 it doesn't however the TV uses the time when its in standby (since youre clearly not using it) to refresh the panel to mitigate the effects of burn in that happen when the panel is on.
I was literally gonna write this comment
Bugger best stop my smart plug! How long does the oled take as I really dont need it on at night
Whats up Alex been watching you since like 2016 and I love the videos. House is looking amazing Keep it up brother. Sending love from Texas
I like that you started in the attic, great tour!
Love your content bro. Been following you for so long and literally have a picture on my phone from meeting you on an omegle fan meet up in 2015. Keep going bro❤
Hello. I enjoyed watching your smart home video. I just want to ask 2 things. How did you do the lighting on the cactus? I believe you mentioned a light strip, but I couldn't find any trace on the wall. Also, I'd like to know about your radiator cover. I like the design.
I added this tour to my smart home tour playlist :)
Great tips and tricks, cheers Alex
Have you used the awareness sensor from Aqara? It uses mmWave to sense living objects with great precision.
I like the smart plug idea (eco house) gonna do this my self
Absolutely crazy man, i love it
The lighting 😍😍😍😍
Nice one Alex keep up the good work.
2:00 Sure that loft becomes a oven in the summer when it’s soaring temperatures which would surely affect the devices some how & maybe 🔥 hazard?
Shave ya fanny
Time to upgrade to home assistant
Fr ❤
Very Cool!
I want everything bro looks amazing. Love the vids, keep up the awesome work.
Thanks for turning all my kitchen lights on at 13:42 haha!
Love your new house bro
You can damage OLED TVs if turning them off at the plug instead of letting them pixel check the voltage when on standby. The rest is cool tho
This is amazing!
I love the front door 🚪!
that moving wallpaper with your logo is dope mate!
Your network gear uses way more power than all the lights combined so if you really want to save power, put all the network gear on smart plugs except for the UDMP, smart plugs hub and one centeredly located Access point for you to connect to and shut the rest down at night. Then run a time schedule so it automatically starts at a particular time in the morning.
What network gear are you talking about? If you mean the switch, router and wireless systems, I don't understand why you would turn them off. The security systems connect through that and you don't want them disconnected obviously I think? What do you mean?
You would turn them off at night if saving power is your priority as they consume a lot of power compared to trying to save power by turning off lights. The optimum is to leave the UDMP and one central AP operational to run your Internet and a couple of cameras.
Hey Alex, maybe a video of how you secure your iot/ smarthome would be necessary
I’m sure you have an own vlan/network for all of this devices setup in your UDM pro
Do you have different vlans/networks for your iot, guests etc? If so could you do a detailed walk through of how you got it all working nicely with unifi. I've struggled getting things like airplay and stuff work accross vlans
Great review and update alex
Great Video!
I always do "don't turn on the big light" lol
Great upload and perfect advice. Don’t fall into the trap of saying your U s how you do.
I’ve tried to look for the vessel streamer but can’t find them at all! Do you have a link?
You should look into getting a UniFi UNVR and have multiple hard drives. This will take some load off of the UDM Pro.
Curious about the backbone in the loft, considering heat processing power creates heat, could be better utilised for home heating in cold climates unless I'm mistaken?
I'm in a hot climate, so the loft would fry any processors, so they're kept at the floor level in the garage as the coolest place. Would be nice to move the desktop out of the office (which heats the room up) into the garage one day.
I can't think of any better efficiencies or convenience otherwise.
I'm a bit nervous about starting home automation, however Home Assistant seems to do everything so I'm not locked into brands and I think choosing a relay for the garage door automation would be ideal. Door locks and presence detectors seem useful but confusing (powered rather than replacing batteries all the time).
At end of the video, what satellite screen saver do you have of the traffic overpasses on your TV?
This is amazing video
Thank you so much and could you please link the item used please
You’re plugged into the matrix my g
Great as peeeer !
Please can you do a cctv video as I’m about to install a full Reolink system I trust this is a good make
Alex I have to ask, what labels are you using for your Aqara 6 button switch?
Great video.
Just wondering, do you use just hue smart plugs? Would you say they are better than cheaper WiFi smart plugs?
Nicely done this smart disco, lights everywhere. Question, Where and how do you or would you use other smart appliances, (dish-)washers smartfridges etc. Reason I ask is that we just don't use the smartfunction on the washing machine and the dishwasher broke down. Would I buy a smart dishwasher and how does this come to it's right? What is the benefit from such machines in a smarthome? I feel that the "smart" in a lot of appliances breaks down to having the buttons on the machine replaced by another user interface; phone or tablet. Do I need to wash my wool jacket whilst in a bus? I still need to be with the machine to put stuff in or take it out. What are your thoughts?
Cool. 👍
Love the look of the house, makes me want to move to the UK lol
Hi Alex!! You've made your home so smart.. I like the video and I am also interested in the smart lighting part!!So fancy
Nice one Alex
it s beautiful
I'm curious, is your attic insulated? How hot / cold does it get up there?
Great stuff , do you have the link to the gateways
Hi Alex, AMAZING smart home tour, we are looking to smart our home up even more, alas you always only talk o r demonstrate Apple, Home kit, I have Samsung phones, TV etc could you please do video on Smarthings, especially now that they use and have integrated Matter with their products. Thanks a bunch, log ing the fluffy slippers and trackies 😘👍
You can avoid Phillips hue by using Home assistant and Zigbee bulbs etc, I prefer Home Assistant over Home Kit everyday f the week.
Obv personal choice.
Yeah exactly, it isnt as plug and play as using home kit but you get tens if not hundreds times more functions and controll over everything.
hella badass, definitely going to work towards a smart home.
Alex, witch wi-fi access points do you use in this house?
Dont kill the power to your oleds - it needs to periodically refresh the pixels!
Could you do a build list please ?
What display did you have on the side to show the cameras?
I am looking for a plug and play HomeKit IR blaster. Any suggestions?
Hi Alex, would love to see how you integrate UniFi Protect into HomeKit?
I like the eco house thing at 12:28 but it got me thinking. If you stop the sipping energy of those devices with a plug that cuts them off. Doesn’t that mean the plug itself is sipping energy?
I like how you still use skeleton keys.
I would like to see what you could do with "MusicBee", and your smarthome?
Have you got WLED on homekit. If you do could you tell me how to. Thank you
What speakers did you add to the gaming setup?
That spot 4:45 where you put the speakers on right next to the shower. Is that really for speakers? I have that same corner and was wondering what is the purpose of it
The ECO house command hard kills the TVs? Not keen on that, but the rest is quite nice.
Really needs a home assistant setup.. turn them off via an integration… not just killing the mains to them :/
Bro wagwarn with u was watching ur vids every day 4-5 yrs ago religiously then kinda grew out of tech come back to ur vids every now and again bro u been on same amount of subs for a donkey amount of years bro lemme deal with UA-cam will get u skill plus granted u slacking posh boy not a range love u bro but how only 600k bro
Hi I have a tplink x20 mesh wifi setup could I also add another wifi 6 router as a access point thanks
Great video, great job. Your videos have evolved over the years and I think are really good. I do wish you would do a better job of including links to "all" the products you talk about in a given video. Not even a link to your other channel. I'm sure you can afford to have someone do the links for you if you feel it's to mundane of a task to do yourself.
Good stuff, the TVs would probably use the same or less power if they were in standby as going through a switched plug, the power strip to the desk is definitely worth it though. I've tried to avoid using large switches and anything power hungry that's on 24/7
Which rope lights you use in the ceiling kindly tell
Power plug sounds good, though my computer stuff needs to be shutdown
He Alex, when is the network video coming of the new house
I'm interested why you didn't use a ring doorbell for your front door 🤔
Hi, how many iot devices & thier frequency ?
Philip's hue is shot lighting you should use thread
I like Philip's hue, I think they work well and are pretty reliable.
Does your phone have to be on the same network as those devices to play music to all of them? I have my Sonos on my IoT network and can’t get AirPlay to work unless my phone is also on the IoT network… I have UniFi as well
It’s the wood screws in the switches and nvr that too this off for me. Rookie move
What speakers are these on the wall next to the tv? 4:24
Interesting stuff, still not convinced I will ever have any myself.
One question, how much charging is needed with all those battery devices?
They last 2 years most of them
Awesome videos sorry I’m so late
Is it not possible to control other bulbs (such as govee bulbs for the main light) with the philips hue dimmer switch when you connect the hub to alexa for example, as alexa will be my main smart home source. I want to be able to control my main lights so it's not possible to completely cut the power with the main switch, but have the hue dimmer switch covering the light switch, without having to change the wiring. Hue bulbs suck, and expensive for the better, coloured, higher lumens options
What are the airplay streamers you have? Sounds like you’re saying vessel??
LOL. ''I wanted all this to be easy'' Whilst listing 4897 devices and names. 🤣
great video but you could switch off the plug socket plus you dont need to spend money on a plug
we need another 2023 wisp tour
Coming soon for sure
@@techflow sounds great! I recently just closed my wisp. need to get it back up and running this year I reckon haha
@@techflow where'd you get the who made the rules sign? need one meself 😂
Any plans to do a video on the VSSL streamers? I’m interested to see how these are setup and how easy it is to do
okay but who needs this ?
Lol the future? I’ve had this stuff for like 6 years 😂
The TV on standby probably used just as much electricity as a outlet on standby… lmao
What PC Screen is that on your desk?
@ 13:43 into the video 😂😂😂😂 turned my kitchen lights on
yesss
Hello Alex ! Do a feat with everything smart home !
Léo from France.
What are the white TV speakers?
😍😍😍
Anyone know what tube light that is in the background at 07:29?
Please do a sensor kit video
