All Uber and Lyft have to do is label the rides appropriately. The drivers who like animals will pick them up.
I have no problem with dogs, or other animals, riding but they can’t be on my seats. They walk all on the ground, grass, in and out of urine and feces, plus they shed all on my seats and I have to clean that up because my next passengers might be allergic to them or get it all on their clothes.
Just label the damned orders and problem solved!

@craxyman9025 I agree with you about support animals. I find it disgusting how people abused that.
But I don't agree about service animals.
People will sue. My brief research uncovered an Uber case that scored millions for this very reason.
What determines whether the driver is also sued, comes down to how the plaintiff feels. If a driver is extremely rude, then the passenger will sue punitively. But if passenger only wants money, they'll only sue uber/Lyft.
Furthermore, there's nothing stopping Uber and lift from suing you for breach of contract.
I'd be willing to bet that if Uber has to pay, they'll try and make you pay too.

They should order an Uber/Lyft pet ride instead of a regular X ride. We should not be forced to have pets in our personal cars, with no regard to our health, allergies, etc. I agree that Uber/Lyft should label the rides and service animal so we'll know & have a choice to accept the ride or not.

Jim, I think the best thing they can do Uber and Lyft is to send out and acknowledge that they are picking up a service animal with the person. Plain and simple makes it a lot easier and they should pay more. It isn't the passenger's fault. It's the company's fault for not letting the drivers know well in advance that you're picking up somebody with a service animal. So uber and lyft get on your game!!

Service animals are medical equipment, and they have the right to go everywhere we go. Just like you wouldn't charge someone a wheelchair fee or a cane fee, you can't charge for a service animal. @@craxyman9025I know it does happen. This is exactly why I'm always prepared to record when the driver pulls up. I want to make sure I'm covered if a driver tries to refuse me. I'd also record the screen of my Uber or Lyft app if I had reason to believe the driver might try to be slick. A friend of mine had a driver keep accepting his ride so it wouldn't look bad on her record, then when he wouldn't cancel she started the trip without him in the car. I did have someone try to tell me that I had to notify them of a service animal, but thankfully she didn't end up charging me any extra cleaning fees. We do not have to notify drivers, and several service animal handlers advise against notifying them because of things like this. If I'm in a parking lot, I will tell them that because I'm visually impaired I won't see them, but that's it. I don't mention the dog. I try not to use Lyft because of how much it costs in my area, but if I ever have to I am aware stuff like this can happen. Thankfully most people haven't complained. Like it or not, they have the right to go wherever we go.

I have to say that "service animals", especially Dogs, are highly trained to be mild mannered and even tempered.
I had several rides in the past where the SA known it's place in the vehicle, on the floor of the car, without the rider having to say a word. Several yrs. ago, I had a couple, both were blind and used one SA which sat on the floor of my compartment area with both riders without any incident.
What Uber and/or Lyft could do is offer a service exclusively for such riders by Drivers who are accepting or feel comfortable and offer that Driver additional earnings for such a service, like an extra $1 - $2.
Most of my trips with SA's resulting in a generous tip by the rider for accommodating themselves and SA's.

I don't have a problem with actual service animals like seeing eye dogs and such. Those animals are highly trained and pose no problems. They will lay down and not move until their owner tells them to. My problem is with these emotional support animals. I've had two so far and both were absolutely not trained service animals at all. One moved around all over my vehicle and wouldn't settle at all. The other also moved around for the whole ride, whined and cried and got up between the seats to get me to pet her. Both were friendly but definitely were not trained service animals. The issue is the riders know the buzz words. They say "This is an emotional support animal and you can't refuse to take us" and there is noting we can do. I've actually had them smirk at me when they tell me. I love dogs but from experience I don't want anything but trained dogs in my vehicle. They do jump up and such and when driving that is dangerous. The second customer I mentioned I picked up after another driver came and refused to take them. They made it clear they'd already called and filed a complaint. They were assured the driver's account would be immediately terminated.
Apparently everyone has rights except us.
As to your comments about wheelchairs. Well I may have to transport someone in a wheelchair and have no problem doing that, but what I do not have to do and will not do is transfer them from chair to vehicle or back nor will I handle their wheelchair lifting it up and lifting it out again. I won't even get into the lack of hygiene with a lot of wheelchairs. While I have experience and was trained in transferring patients, lifting them etc. Its certainly not my job any longer and leaves me open to liability if I drop them, they get injured in the transfer or something. Most drivers out there have no such training.
What will be real interesting is that if an issue ever crops up over this will be that I am disabled and am unable to actually do such things physically so what will Uber and Lyft do.
I already have problems with both companies doing Medicaid transports and a fair number of times these patients need transport from much more than an Uber or Lyft. I took one the other night from the ER to home. The elderly guy was in nothing but a hospital gown, had medical equipment attached to him and was completely out of it. He almost couldn't get out of my vehicle, had a lot of trouble, then managed to get out but turned around and fell back into my vehicle and almost went completely down instead of partially down. He could barely walk.
What kind of liability does that leave for me not to mention Uber and Lyft. He hit his back and head on my sliding door. If he busted his head open or broke something then what? I won't even get into them almost never being ready to go and Medicaid playing games by putting in a different pick up point at the hospital while adding a message as to where they actually are. If you leave the pick up point to go where they really are the waiting time clock stops. Lovely ain't it.

🎬 Uber and Lyft Drivers discriminating against Blind People
👀(00:01) The video discusses discrimination against visually impaired passengers with service animals by Uber and Lyft drivers.
⚖(00:40) Denying rides to blind people with guide dogs is illegal, yet it happens frequently.
👨‍🦯🐶(01:18) Bill, a passenger with Usher syndrome (blindness and deafness), shares his experiences of discrimination and frustration.
📊(02:36) A survey reveals that nearly 85% of guide dog users face ride denials, impacting their daily lives and well-being.
🏛(03:21) The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) mandates that service animals be allowed in public spaces, including ride-sharing services.
🗣(04:27) The video host, a rideshare driver, acknowledges the illegality of discrimination but expresses concerns from the driver's perspective.
🚗💨(06:52) He advises drivers who are uncomfortable with animals to simply drive away without stating a reason to avoid legal issues.
📢(07:26) The video suggests that Uber and Lyft should notify drivers in advance about service animals to prevent denials and protect themselves from lawsuits.
💰(09:06) Drivers often hesitate to accept rides with service animals due to low pay, lack of compensation for potential damages, and the absence of tipping culture.
🤧(13:12) The video highlights the lack of protection for drivers with allergies or fear of dogs.
😔(14:27) The low pay and lack of appreciation from passengers contribute to drivers' reluctance to go above and beyond.
    - Drivers face a dilemma between following the law and protecting their interests.
    - Ride-sharing companies need to implement better policies to support both drivers and passengers with disabilities.
    - Awareness and understanding of the challenges faced by both parties are crucial.
    ✅ Benefits:
✅ Raises awareness about discrimination against visually impaired passengers.
✅ Provides insights into the challenges faced by both drivers and passengers.
✅ Offers suggestions for improvement for ride-sharing companies.
    ❌ Cons:
❌ The host's personal opinions may come across as insensitive.
❌ Focuses more on driver's perspective than on solutions to discrimination.
👎 The video is informative but lacks balance and empathy, making it a borderline dislike.

    @richbeardsley1024 Місяць тому

Just so you know, although you can't charge for service animals just because, you can charge the person if their animal causes any damage to your vehicle. Example. your seat gets destroyed by a dog and you have to get it re-apulstered. Just like you'd be able to charge me if I destroyed the seat, you'd be able to charge me if my guide dog did it, and I agree with this. As service animal owners, it's our job to make sure our animals are well behaved and don't use the bathroom or do anything they're not supposed to in public. If my dog caused a significant amount of damage, service animal or not, I should pay just like anyone else. In situations like this, make sure you have pictures after that ride so you can prove the animal caused damage. Remember, you can't charge just because the animal left a lot of hair behind. Only if there's significant damage that you'd charge for even if there wasn't a service animal in your vehicle. Under the ADA, you can legally ask if it's a service animal required for a disability and what tasks it's been trained to perform. As long as the service animal is legitament, people shouldn't have a problem answering those two questions. If anyone tries to flash paperwork, it's very likely the animal is fake. Service animals are not required to have paperwork that identifies them as a working dog, and most real service dog teams try to avoid showing any form of ID if we can help it. If the service animal is showing any signs of aggression, you are allowed to kick it out.

Companies can not discriminate toward service animals. You are representing the companies as a driver and therefore are subject to the same law. Like it or not.

You work for the public. This is no different than saying you dont accept minorities, because they smell.
Just as Walmart is a private company and private property.
If you want to discriminate, get a different job.

Which job allows one to discriminate? Lol. I think they should stay drivers since literally no one has ever got into any trouble for skipping a passenger pick up. And how can anyone even prove it? There's no law saying anyone needs to pick up a dog and people don't wear "I'm blind or disabled" signs when standing waiting for a ride. Like the man said in the video, there's no incentive whatsoever for drivers to give a f.

It's against the law, you think because you're working a job with your own equipment the law doesn't apply?
There's never an incentive, this is why it became law. Stores and businesses discriminated for the same reason, forcing a law.

Emotional support animals aren't service animals. You have no legal obligations to accommodate emotional support animals.
The fact that a driver hasn't been sued is only by chance. Perhaps a blind person hasn't had the ability to get the driver's information. I bet it has happened, and we don't know of it. Also they're sure to be fired.
