Brandon played both Superman and Clark Kent so perfectly. At times he could have been mistaken for Christopher Reeve. It’s sad that he was not given the props he deserved
Would love to see more of and another chance for Brandon Routh as Superman! He has not been given a fair shake and deserves so much more! His Superman was believable so much more than Cavill.
Ever since I was a kid I have become a follower of Superman, but the actors who suit me as Superman and Clark Kent are Christopher Reeve and Brandon Routh. I hope Brandon Routh will be the Clark Kent and SUPERMAN again.
I agree! Chris and Brandon were just perfect in the role! Everyone these days is like ‘Henry is our superman’, but to me…..thats just a lack of appreciation for the duality that was previously portrayed! With HENRY CAVILL…there was no duality!
I totally agree with what you're talking about. I would love to see Brandon do a second movie as Superman, in the same spirit as he did in the first movie. I could almost feel Christopher in that movie. I remember there was a lot of talk around town about if this Brandon Routh could carry Superman, and I was most pleased to see that he did, at least in my book he did it perfectly. I've watched that movie many times over.
I grew up on the Christopher Reeve Superman films. Hé will always be iconic as Superman. However, I loved Brandon’s version of Superman in Superman Returns. I just rewatched it and loved it even more. Superman is the embodiment of hope and the latest interpretation of him played by Henri Cavill doesn’t live up to that.
I actually loved Brandon as Superman and I don’t think you can get better casting, especially as far as the voice and the looks go he even had Clark Kent down to a T. He looks so much like Christopher Reeves. It was insane. There was even a part in the movie at the beginning, but I thought is that Christopher Reeve’s voice or Brandon. I really wish he could’ve gone on to keep playing him because I think he was one of the best for real
I really appreciate your take on this. I was a big Henry Cavill's Superman fan, however, I really couldn't figure out why his Clark Kent didn't feel right for me. Your point really States it clearly. Thanks also for that hilarious BVS clip of Bruce Wayne . A genius who can remember where he kept a shark repellant spray , but doesn't remember which newspaper company he owns.
Routh just carried himself perfectly as Superman - I also like how the heat vision wasn't just massive flames coming out of his eyes (that don't even singe mere humans who are inches away from them)😄. Cavill's acting was way too stiff, but even he said he'd like to play a more traditional version of Clark. Great job, Snyder👍.
Great piece. I returned to Superman Returns a while ago and found a much better film that I remembered seeing in 2006. Routh’s performance as both Clark and Kal is impeccable and I think this was perhaps the reason it failed. Bryan Singer wanted to make an homage to the Reeve films and I think we all went in there expecting a Reeve film. But you could never get recreate that magic and so we were destined to be disappointed through no fault of Routh or Singer. This probably led both WB and Snyder to want to distance themselves from the previous films as much as possible - in things like the character’s build, demeanour and even the music! Having said that, I do really like Cavil’s Superman (even if his Clark isn’t as nuanced) and would love to see how Snyder envisaged the end of the story arc for his version of the character.
Awesome comments. Thank you. I agree, impossible to recreate that magic from the Reeve movies but on the other hand, the Reeve movies would not have worked in 2006. Brandon had massive boots to fill, and I think he did his job perfectly. The movie script could have been better, but it’s very difficult to please everyone….especially die hard comic book nerds. Thanks again for the comments. Stay super!
Everyones mentioning how great Chris and Henry were and dont get me wrong they are but i barely see anyone give the credit Brandon deserves, best superman ever 👏
Am so glad I found your channel - I also think that Brandon Routh was so unfairly rated as Superman. Agree with you and others here that Brandon also showed the "duality" that made Clark Kent so relatable and as Superman the hero we all look up to.
I agree with this guy. Brandon Routh was indeed the perfect Superman and Clark Kent since Christopher Reeve. I saw him in theaters when Superman Returns came out. I was only eight at the time, but I loved instantly for he played the hero very well. And the way he spoke so gently to his son when he was sleeping at the end, still gets to me every time I watch it. That’s definitely my favorite part.
I agree...I wish Brandon Routh had been given a second Superman movie. But holy moly, did I squeal like a fangirl when Routh did Kingdom Come Superman in Crisis on Infinite Earths. He was amazing!!
COMPLETELY AGREE WITH YOU!!! Watching Henry Cavil was boring and miserable as Superman. Brandon did a amazing job and very underrated!!! And now we got this David Corenswet neanderthal looking face casted as Superman, just a repeat of Henry Cavill like Superman, but I shouldn't judge just yet until the movie comes out. Oh and yes Christopher is the best of all, greatest of all time!!!
Dude , I totally agree. If I had only one thing to say is that he did look super young g , a touch too young for the part but I quickly forgot that. Actually he’s aged so well and could still play the part today.
I grew up with Christopher Reeve as Superman/Clark Kent. To me, he will always be the best person for the role. Brandon Routh, is the next best. RIP Christopher Reeve, I truly believe his spirit lives on, as Superman.
Brandon Roth was excellent as Superman. I think since Zack Snider was trying to do an updated Christopher Reeves type movie, he had Brandon play Superman as Christopher Reeves did. Brandon pulled it off by basically becoming the Cristopher Reeves Superman. We just see an extension of Reeves when we watch Brandon as Superman, but he did an amazing job, and he had what the newer Superman adaptations don't. The virtue and pure goodness of the Christopher Reeves Superman. Brandon comes off as very kind and caring which I see as the very incarnation of the character. A character that is inspirational to an eight year old or a 60 year old. Brandon did a great job.
This is exactly what I’ve always been saying. He’s criminally underrated and he was the second best Superman to Christopher … Superman returns was actually pretty good as well
I love Brandon I love his performances Superman and I was completely ready to accept him as my new Superman Beyond Christopher Reeves. I hate that it fizzled on the man. I am glad you got to come back and do it in the CW Show one more time though that was kind of cool plus I hear that they're considering a miniseries with his version of Superman for hbomax let's hope so.
The actors that barely gets a mention in the "Who is the best Superman" conversations are George Newbern & Tim Daly. Seriously, they're like the Kevin Conroy to Superman. Especially George. He just captures the charm and innocence of Clark so well. Also,he delivers some of the most inspiring and most badass speeches everytime he gives a speech. The World of Cardboard speech from JLU's finale & the "Dreams Save Us.." speech from Superman vs the Elite comes to mind. Tim's excellent too. But George did it better.
Agreed! Excellent comments also!! I just had to show Brandon some love but maybe I’ll do a whole other video on all of the other Superman actors and voice actors. Thanks for that 👍
What destroyed Brandon Routh’s Superman was the story of Superman Returns. Fans and non-fans got bored with it. Also, Brandon Superman’s heat vision was so lame it’s just enough to light a cigarette.
I dunno, he melted the metal couplings off a space shuttle. The visual effects of his Heat vision kinda mimicked the effects from Smallville, which I personally loved. I actually enjoyed the script. I could do a whole other video as to why that movie is criminally underrated, but I did not like the super kid thing. I will say that. Anyways, thanks for your comments my friend. Stay super!
My favorite superman has to be Brandon routh ,because he embodies him perfectly where he is nerdy ,clumsy and does what he can to save lives now henry cavils superman in man of steel was ok ,but he needed to tone down the muscle ,and give him slick back haircut 💇 then he would've been a better superman ,but I hope he comes back.
When it comes to feature length movies, as a long time Superman fan i actually really like Christopher Reeve, Brandon Routh and Henry Cavill in all their rolls. I dont think i want to pick a favourite. Each film has wonderful memorable moments and beautiful scores.
finally, someone gets it. He's a Kryptonian for god's sake which means Superman doesn't have to be bulky to be strong. I don't hate Cavill but he's overrated as Superman. And now, Cavill cults hate that he's being replaced? Now they know how I felt when Brandon was not cast again as Superman lol
I completely agree with you on Routh, he was a very under rated superman. it is sad that most ppl didn't like the movie but I feel that lied in the story they were telling in the movie. It should not have been a continuation from the original story. it should have been a all new telling of the story. The rest of the cast was great as well but timeline was its downfall. also I never would have thought about RDJ playin Lex, that has some real potential. Overall great video.
Thanks for the nice comments! I enjoyed the story and the fact that it was a continuation of the Reeve Supes. But i agree that it wasnt for everyone and a ‘re-telling’ might have been the better way to go. And yeah….RDJ would make a phenomenal Lex IMO. Thanks again!! 🙏 😃
And I agree with you that Christopher reeves is the best if not one and only superman especially in the 70's and 80s ,because nobody does it better than reeves ,but may he rip .
Superman returns and Brandon's performance is without a doubt the best and a genuine homage to CR. The difference between superman returns and the Henry movies is superman returns is a movie that's about story telling where the others are just action movies.
Chris Reeve is, and shall always be my Superman, Dean Cain had stated in an interview he wasn't a fan of Reeve's Clark Kent depiction so wanted to play a strong, confident version and though I understand his reasons for saying that, couldn't help but think he missed the point Chris' character choice, a complete counter opposite to Superman under a pair of glasses and body positioning. Reeve did mention however (during the making of Superman III) that his Clark this time round should be less of a goof as the character progressed (which I also agree with) so I thought it was the wrong direction to have him to go uber-klutzy for Superman IV. Brandon Routh wasn't given enough wriggle room to truly make the character his own as Bryan Singer is a huge fan of the Donner film and so was cast into essentially replicate Reeve's essence because of his looks which was unfair in many ways.
Well you know Henry is a buff hot superman but he does do fairly good but Reeve and Routh are definitely excellent the best looks yes handsome also they look like the character 😉
Superman returns is most underrated movie it is erd best superman movie and better than today's dceu and mcu like shazam 2,thor 4, doctor strange 2,the flash and many more and if it was released in 2023 It would probably made 500 million dollars atleast
i agree brandon was a great superman 6 foot 4 which is perfect height 4 superman, the movie was just ok but that wasnt brandons fault, he looked great and his acting was spot on
Henry would have been a great villain. Routh was perfect, I agree, but the way the movie was made was also a perfect continuation of the story Reeve was in. Also, a big, big part was the music. I don't know what they were thinking in removing this iconic music.
I actually think Routh played the mild-mannered version the best, if not 2nd best. Cain is a contender for best Clark as he felt like a regular guy. It wasn't as "loud" as Reeve. Cavill's Clark was basically Superman with glasses, a little moreso than George Reeves.
I love BR as Supes, and it's a shame that DC didn't continue in that direction for at least 2 more movies. But what I dont get is WHY nobody EVER mentions George Reeves? Did we forget just how cool and smooth Mr. Kent was? He was no bumble at all, and was raw as hell. And as Supe, he never used a window or door...he busted thru the wall like the Hulk! George was extremely popular as Superman in the 50's, and for all Superman lovers, I'd strongly suggest that you watch The Adventures Of Superman, in b&w and color. Yes its dated, and b4 CGI, but hey, it was the 1950's.
Brandon Routh is definitely underrated. I hated his Super suit though. Brandon played Christopher Reeve Superman. I'm not a big Henry Cavill Superman fan . He was just OK to me.
During the 1990s, Writers from all mediums wanted to drop the bumbling Clark Kent as a dork. While that was Jerry Seigel’s original concept and I adore the duality Reeve gave both personas, I think writers felt it was ridiculous that an ace reporter would be someone who tripped on his own feet. That’s just my two cents.
The biggest problem with Superman returns isn’t the movie itself it’s Bryan singer making it slate in between Superman 2&3 where the narrative of those movies don’t support it fitting there it should have been the 5th movie that never got made and Brandon could have shown us what he could’ve done with the role but ultimately he had to do a Christopher reeve impression and his resemblance to the actor helped and another underrated actor for Superman is dean cain cause he played the role very well in my opinion
I have nothing against Henry Cavill as Superman. I just hate that he was given bad direction and stories. Brandon, however, is my favorite post-Reeve Superman, hands down, for the very reasons you stated. In the end, neither Brandon nor Cavill were given a fair shake. Brandon by the fans, Cavill by the studio.
I thought there was lots of action! He catches a plane. He stops mutiple criminals. He gets shot in the eye. He uses heat vision to protect a crowd of people. He catches the daily planet globe, stopping it from squishing people. He uses cold breath to put out multiple fires and explosions. He literally throws a kryptonite laced, continent sized land mass into outer space! I think thats plenty, but then I am Only one person who is perhaps quite easy to please.
@@kalelsupes808 Don't get me wrong all those scenes were great! And i own the movie and see it often, i just wanted a little.more superman and less of lois i guess, and i dint like where sup goes and spies on lois, thats no very superman like. But over all i give it an 8.5 from 10.

1st of all, Christopher Reeve Superman was never comic accurate, but he is very good at it doing his own iteration, and audiences love it. So Routh just continued his potrayal. For Cavill version, he just doing what Zack Snyder direct him to do, and make his own version, also not comic accurate. I think Tyler is close to comic accurate.
Brandon Routh did a much better job playing Clark Kent and Superman than Henry Cavill did. Cavill was stiff performing both characters, too violent and too angry all the time. Christopher Reeve will always be the absolute BEST actor playing Superman ever! Pity nasty Bryan Synger and Kevin Spacey stained the movie "Superman Returns" which was pretty decent and waaaay better than the crappy Man of Steel. Sorry about your t-shirt.
L'argent ? Les fan ? Ils vont avoir tout ça ! ++++
Another issue with MOS is trying to make Superman dark like Batman which is a huge mistake and ass backwards Superman is the light the sun hope etc far as Henry look if it was George Reeves era that works but now yeah no he doesn't even look like Superman alot of things were off for me and ijs if you gone do something do it right or don't at all Superman is an american character Henry is not american he is British. 👎

Thanks buddy
"Superman Returns" gets a raw deal!
It sure does.
Henry would have been a great villain. Routh was perfect, I agree, but the way the movie was made was also a perfect continuation of the story Reeve was in. Also, a big, big part was the music. I don't know what they were thinking in removing this iconic music.
My man!!!!!!!
Yeah that john williams score!! Just gives me goosebumps, especially the love theme!
I actually think Routh played the mild-mannered version the best, if not 2nd best. Cain is a contender for best Clark as he felt like a regular guy. It wasn't as "loud" as Reeve. Cavill's Clark was basically Superman with glasses, a little moreso than George Reeves.
Yeah Routh’s CK was very understated and underrated
Brandon Routh is second best superman after Henry Cavill imo.
Brandon Routh PLEASE
I don't think Jesse played Lex.. I think he played Lex's son.. But I'm not quite certain.
Well, it was supposed to be lex, and he sucked ass!
Brandon Routh is definitely underrated. I hated his Super suit though. Brandon played Christopher Reeve Superman. I'm not a big Henry Cavill Superman fan . He was just OK to me.
Agreed. I didn’t mind the Superman returns suit, but it could have been better
Great points! Agreed.
👍👍👍👍
During the 1990s, Writers from all mediums wanted to drop the bumbling Clark Kent as a dork. While that was Jerry Seigel’s original concept and I adore the duality Reeve gave both personas, I think writers felt it was ridiculous that an ace reporter would be someone who tripped on his own feet. That’s just my two cents.
Henry Cavill is the best superman ever!!
Brandon Routh is my third favorite Superman after Cavill and Reeves.
This by far the best lex ever Michael Rosenbaum
Agreed!!! 💯
Agreed!!! 👍👍👍
Now Henry's gone why can't Brandon resume the role?
I’d love him too, but directors like to find their own. Plus so many Superman Returns haters would winge and whine
I really like brandon has superman, he did a great job, the problem was the movie was slowpaced and dint have enuff action!
I think thats plenty, but then I am
Only one person who is perhaps quite easy to please.
@@kalelsupes808 Don't get me wrong all those scenes were great! And i own the movie and see it often, i just wanted a little.more superman and less of lois i guess, and i dint like where sup goes and spies on lois, thats no very superman like. But over all i give it an 8.5 from 10.

I agree he was underrated as heck, but i think henry looks more comic book acurate. In the comics hes buff.
it doesnt matter, you can recognize easy
Christopher Reeve hand down is the best Superman Christopher Reeves set the standard to play Clark Kent Superman. Brandon Roth second best
Agreed!!
For me it goes
Reeve
Welling
Routh
Cavill
Hoechlin
Cain
George reeves
My order is almost identical
Problem was with the script
I always thought the story should have been of son of kal el and Lois lane then it would have been justify so many scenes in the movie
You voiced out all Superman fans heart. 100% agreed !
😍😍😍😍❤️❤️❤️❤️
Lol
No worries. 👍👍👍
❤❤❤
Henry didn't do good clark 😕
I totally agree with everything you said, Brandon was the perfect superman.
Yep
L'argent ? Les fan ? Ils vont avoir tout ça ! ++++
At least he is taller..
Someone who speaks English. AND IS ENGLISH!
I agree with most of that
Superman Returns is very good movies but not too much ppl appreciated. Ive watched 3X and Henry Cavill i dont see him as Superman at all
totally*
Okay I draw the line at that.
*HOW BLOODY DARE YOU DESECRATE MY MAN ROBERT DOWNEY JUNIOR AS LEX LUTHOR. GET BRYAN CRANSTON!*
HahHaha. I’ll settle for Cranston. Lol
