UPDATE: I had a crazy unlucky streak dropping 6 fish in a row so I changed to offset live bait hooks for the stinger. Things immediately got better so it might be a good idea to use offset hooks instead of inline on the stinger.
@@AffordableWahoo Thanks Shea for the quick reply. Does it matter what side you place the stinger on the opelu since its now offset to one side. Worried that it will hook itself on the opelu.
@@alanabara1248 I always hook mines into the opelu's right side just because I hook them from the right side on the snout so it lines up better that way. I haven't noticed the offset making any difference in snagging back into the bait.
Thanks! I've been too intimidated to attempt to use wire with my bait rigs but I think I could tie the Perfection knots now, slowly watching this video. Love all the helpful tips you provide on you channel! "Chee Pono!"
Thanks for making this video! I am going to try Knot 2 Kinky wire for my deadstick for pike through the ice and I wanted to see what to expect when I tie the perfection loop. This was perfect!
Good rig set up video. New to the island and slowly getting my kayak rigged up to take out around Puako and Kawaihae. I’m from San Diego and live baiting with circle hooks is everybody’s go to. have you tried circle hooks as your stinger? If so, good or bad results? 100% agree with loop knots for live baiting, or if rich enough, splurging on ringed hooks (I don’t splurge often).
Thanks! Very cool that you'll be fishing out there. Beware of the wind at puako! There's a reason that they built those windmills up the hill. I've never tried circle hooks with a stinger rig because I like the rig to be as sticky as possible. Might work though!
Huge help I’ve been using the boa wire, what do you use on your damashi rig like line and hook size flies or rubber etc. can’t get the opelu to bite, mahalo 🙏
12 lb mono main stem and 10 lb flurocarbon branches with size 8 hold J hooks. I use tylah lure glo strips and HiPerformance lures fish sticks with 4 oz lead. Most important thing is to hit them right at dawn when they're higher up in the water and in a feeding frenzy. Hope this helps 🤙
The stainless wire in the other video is much easier to tie, but prone to kinks that make it useless after 1 or 2 strikes. I still prefer the other stuff though because it's cheaper and easier to rig. I sometimes use this titanium stuff on my dead bait rigs so I don't have to retie every strike.
Good stuff! I've always crimped the braided soft wire on my leaders but this looks more streamline. Have you tried tying the same knot on heavier wire? I've caught Ono over 70 pounds so I like the heavier stuff but might not get as many strikes. I think I'll try your system out! 👍🏽
Hope it works out for you braddah! I never tried heavier than the American Fishing Wire 40lb with this so not sure. I definitely feel like the lighter stuff gets more bites, but I haven't had a chance to test this rig against a really big fish yet.
Does the titanium leader stay good after fighting a fish and not get all bent and kinked up? What is the advantage of it over the steel single strand ?
Yes I have used it for as many as 5 strikes on the same rig. Single strand stainless, on the other hand, sometimes kinks after just one strike. The main advantage is the lower chance to kink.
@@davidyoshida1693 I personally have never had the titanium break yet. If I lose a fish it usually either breaks at my fluro knot or the fish just cuts above the wire.

Aloha Shea, what size and brand you recommend for the stinger
@@alanabara1248 I have been using a 5/0 or 6/0 Gamakatsu offset octopus hook lately.

Great glad it was useful!
Thank you, perfect timing!!! Will see if I can get a rig or two going for Friday :)
Well done, great tutorial. Thank you.
Very well done. I always made sliding rigs with wire. Will try it!
Thanks! Sliding rig sounds interesting too. Best of luck hope it works for you!

Bro, I'm watching this video in a hotel room in Waikiki and hearing a cat meowing... I'm like, there's no cat on the balcony. 🤣
lol yeah she hates when I'm doing anything that's not with her
What happens if your live bait smaller or larger then the length of the trailer hook? Do you have different lengths of wire made?
I make it short enough nowdays that one size fits all. If the bait is too small then I'd probably use just a single hook

what's the best size of titanium wire you Recommend to buy it
I only ever use 40 from the kayak and haven't broken it yet 🤙
I appreciate that, bro

You ever have this knot fail?
Hasn't failed on me yet!

Yeah seems super nice no need re rig after every strike unlike the stainless steel wire!
Brilliant
COQUI lol from hilo. mahalos for vids
LOL yep when u live here almost forget they there til you watch one video or on the phone with somebody 😂
If you’re cheap, as you stated, use crimps, you loose too much expensive wire. Much simpler and cleaner too, end product(knot).
Co Qui!
lol yeah they get pretty loud when its been raining!
