Great help as always Shea with these instruction videos. I have been having success lately only using damashi rigs but usually only with 20lb flouro and I never catch opelu so I’m going to switch back to 12. Also I find the action with just a dropper loop like that is better on the hooks then a standard clink knot. Mahalos as always for all the tips you have for all of us🤙🤙🤙
Np man hope you can find the opelu because they're the golden ticket out there. I've only used 20 lb to catch akule. Do you drop your 20 lb through the feeding opelu school and not hookup?
Thanks! Hope the rig works for you. I use a Tsunami Trophy slow pitch 6'0 in medium-heavy and a shimano spheros 4000. Any rod 6-7 feet with some backbone yet soft tip will do.
Thanks for this video I caught my first weke ula (on tylah lures) on our first kayak trip with this rig beefed up with 20lb. Any tips on finding opelu schools?
Awesome congrats! Over here Opelu usually hang out at dawn on the edges of reef dropoffs or pinnacles in like 60-180 feet. As the sun gets higher in the sky they might go deeper like 250-350 feet depends on the spot. If you don't have already definitely use a fish finder.
I've mostly used gold hooks and only a few occasions black hooks and red hooks but never plain silver. I'm pretty sure the lighter leader gives you more chance at getting bites when they're not in feeding mode, but I don't think anything really matters when they're feeding actively at dawn. I think the main benefit of the light branches is just not losing the rig if something big grabs on though.
@@AffordableWahoo cool, good to know. It’s funny, that’s the way I originally rig my sabiki but with 15lb line. It saves so much more time doing that way.
@@samksy007 yeah I bet they bite the 15 too if its flurocarbon. I wouldn't go any bigger than that personally but I've heard some guys use like 20 🤷♂️
Its home made. Wooden dowel and 3/8 inch threaded stainless steel rod from Home Depot. The only tricky part is drilling a straight hole into the dowel to seat the threaded rod. Helps to have access to a drill press.
Automatic 🤙My mainline is 14 lb fireline braid with 30 feet of the same 12 lb mono. I splice with uni-uni knot and change out after a couple trips because it gets scratched up.
Thanks again for your knowledge and great fishing videos
Np!

i use 20 pound flouro, maruto mz sz 11 or aji sz 5, 1 1/2 inch grubs or strips successfully
Thanks, easier and better than the way I was tying my damashi rigs.
Np hope it works for you. Definitely a big time saver.
Awesome video thanks for sharing 🤙what pole and reel combo do you like to use for your bait pole

I’m sure you tried it all. Do you think that the gold hook red bead , lighter single line branches , or flouro carbon make any difference at all ?

Thx 🙏, now I gotta find the darn things 🤔🤷🏾♂️
Np lol you right finding them is like 90% of the battle.
@@AffordableWahoo hey curious, I have a small motor less than 6hp do you think that scares them away when I’m motoring around trying to find them? Thx
@@AK-ms5zk I'm a firm believer that they don't like the sound of motors. Have had boats cruise by super close and then the bait disappeared
@@AffordableWahoo huge help thx 🙏
Great tutorial!
Thanks hope it works for you 🤙
Awesome! Thank you!
Have you updated your Opelu Sabiki rig? Or are you still using this same thing method?
Still doing the exact same thing! Sometimes I use 12 lb flurocarbon instead but don't see any difference
no more beads on the rig?
Nope! Doesn't seem to need it. I only have two trips using the rig with no beads so far but both times I caught bait no problem...

No new videos in a while? Water been too rough?
Strongest trade winds of the year been making the fishing tough! Just uploaded last weekend's vid though 🤙
I saw that the minute I made the comment
mahalo nui good video 🤙🏼
Np and thanks!🤙
Thanks for sharing your rig, I learned a few things! Btw, what is your main line on your bait rig (reel)? Is it mono or braid and what pound test?
Automatic 🤙My mainline is 14 lb fireline braid with 30 feet of the same 12 lb mono. I splice with uni-uni knot and change out after a couple trips because it gets scratched up.
@@AffordableWahoo I figured you were using some kind of light line since the lead weight is only 3 to 4 oz, good to know, mahalo!
Mahalo!
