    I did 10 years in Texas prisons. I even got released from the walls unit(where they used to execute people). I was facing a life sentence and a jury sentenced me to only 15 years for fatally stabbing a man that punched me in a bar fight. The jury told my lawyers that felt sorry for me because I was 17,and decided to only give me 15 years,because he was the instigator. It also came out at my trial that the dude was a serial rapist. That certainly didn't hurt my cause. Facing life,is terrifying. I can't imagine facing the death penalty. For some reason, to this day,I still have nightmares about doing life or getting the death penalty,even though I wasn't eligible the death penalty, and the prosecutors ultimately did not ask the jury to give me life. They did ask the jury to give me 30-40 years. God bless the jury that gave me a 2nd chance. I feel very bad about what i did. I cant change the past. Not everyone that goes to prison is remorseless. Most people can change. REDEMPTION IS REAL! Been out almost 9 years without so much as a traffic ticket. I just can't imagine being sentenced to death. I think I would commit suicide before I let the state execute me

      Damm.. Nice story! YOUR lucky bc Texas don't play I would never do a crime out there.. My question is this why are there soo many guys on death row in Texas? Are they not aware of the state that they LOVE to kill people down there? I don't get it with these guys...

      @texas3284 5 років тому +4

      Toy Murillo They just seek the death penalty alot more. Interesting stats- Texas executes more people than any other country in the world except Pakistan and 1 other. Also,1 county (Harris County)has sent more people to death row than any other state in the United States! You are correct! Texas don't play!

    • @ReyOfLight
      @ReyOfLight 5 років тому +6

      Glad you got a second chance at life! How Texas treats inmates in general is absolutely appalling! And how many they execute is even worse. Not a state I would ever want to visit even, and I’m a law abiding person who’s never been in any trouble with the law enforcement. I just care about human rights and to me that includes human rights for prison inmates and ex-cons too. Death penalty and harsh prison environments is nothing more than cold blooded revenge, and the people condoning it are really no better than the convicts that they despise... Yes, I do feel for victims and their families, but everything isn’t always about the victims, a convict may be a victim themselves, and the family and friends of a convict are victims in a way as well. Some convicts aren’t even bad people, they did a bad thing yes, but it doesn’t mean they’re bad people, it can be good people who ended up in a bad situation, or someone who did something bad and changed radically while in prison. Many deserve a second chance in life, and to do that prisons need to focus more on rehabilitation and have better conditions. Going to prison and losing freedom is the punishment and should be the only punishment, punishing people when they’re IN prison by treating them badly and/or keeping them in horrid conditions is just hypocritical and inhumane.

    A wild update regarding this man and his case.
    He is alive and well serving a life sentence instead of being executed. Turns out the judge and prosecutor on his case were having an affair which came out after the fact. His lawyers appealed for a new trial. The appeals court refused to hear the appeal about it being a fair trial. But, the appeals court granted him a new sentencing trial because the jury were not given the proper rules and information when deciding on the punishment. The new prosecutor was going for the death penalty again. He ended up taking a plea deal. He pleaded guilty to both murders and received a life sentence. A life sentence in Texas is 40 years. He's been on death row at the time for over 23 years. Part of the plea agreement that he took meant he will not get credit for those 23 years which would have made him eligible for release soon. Instead the 40 years started from the day he pleaded guilty, therefore, insuring that he'll remain in prison for good.
    Crazy ass story....wow!

Regardless, the transcript revealed no errors by the judge and it was the jury who sentenced him to death. Not difficult to do since he murdered two people, the evidence was overwhelming, and he had a criminal history including rape of minors.

    When he was talking about the calmness, I've felt it too.
    I was in a driving accident at 80mph, but instead of being shakey,scared,hurt, or panicked, I felt so calm that everything was all right, I didn't feel my heart beating, no blood rushing,I couldn't even feel my pulse. Everthing just slowed down, almost as if time stood still. Everyone else was freaking out, but all I could think about was how quickly I could have died,within a matter of seconds. But I've never been so calm in my life. When he said it was Jesus in the room, I felt like he was in the truck. The only explanation for my calmness and no serious injuries, is Jesus was there. It felt like an out of body experience, like Jesus traded me places for a split second. It sounds crazy, idk how else to explain it.

      Well you see, the questions are how many years ago did he commit the crime, has he rehabilitated during the years on death row, if so, has he developed a conscience, what is the substance to the rehabilitation and over what length if time, ... there are many murderers who had no chance at receiving a good upbringing and who only begin to discover whar it should have been and consequently assert themselves thereto. What were the circumstances of his crime? You see there are many questions.a d few amswers. In many of these interviews I do not hear questions like ... how does your attitude differ from the time.of the murder to your state of mind today? Would you kill again were you placed in the same circumstances? I heard an interview with a serial killer, smiling he said if he is let out he will kill again, over and over and said he simply loves killing people. Each and every case is different. Discussions of death penalty will always remain contraversial. This guy Dean, has a wild eye. He 0robably suffers from an incurable personality disorder. His crying is the fear of death. It.is abnormal not to fear death. I shall have to read up on it.

I would say to him, now you know how it felt with the victims family but 10xs more because the victims family has to deal with their loved ones death PLUS the way they were killed. I watch clips of convicts being sentenced on you tube & when the victims families give an impact statement many times the family of defendant will snap at them in court or when they are outside on a break as if they are doing wrong by sharing their thoughts & feelings about what the person did to their loved one & what they wish the sentece should be. The victims family didnt have anythinf to do with why the defendant was sentenced, the defendant put himself there! There are even times defendant starts looking shocked or cursing at judge like "how dare you give me death or life" knowing what he did. Blows my mind!

    At the time of this interview he was still refusing to admit guilt for the murders. Finally, in February of 2013, 24 years after he committed double murder and wasted everyone's time and energy, he admitted his guilt.

    I'm left wondering if anyone even cares if he is guilty! The way I see it, is that he has been forced into a corner to plead guilty, even though he could be innocent. The man has be given enough stays to at least imply that there is doubt and if there is the slightest doubt with death row cases then I believe there should be another trial. How many more innocent people have to die before this barbaric punishment is stopped? I am so glad that we have more sense in the UK.

      +Dawn Porter Do you have an understanding of the exhaustive and lengthy process our system demands before a murderer in the USA can be even given a death sentence? And then the subsequent appeals which last 10 -20 years? If you have a problem with the death penalty in all the that's fine. Put the police in this country don't beat confessions out of murderers and then they are executed the next week. This is not China or Venezuela. Please speak not out of ignorance. My ancestors left your country hundreds of years ago and fought a war for independence because people in the UK were imprisoned over debt and religious persecution. The UK does NOT possess a stellar record of treatment of its "criminals."

    As someone already commented, the problem with the death penalty is the time it takes to get through the system of appeals. I am English, where we do not have the death sentence. At 65 I can remember a time when it was in force. When it was , the delays that America has, never seemed to happen here. I believe, when in Rome ect ect. I know that you cannot compare two systems, especially as one is defunct. however I do not understand, along with a lot of Americans, I'm sure. Why it takes so long.

    Read "Restless Souls" by Alisa Statman with Brie Tate about the Sharon Tate Murder and many years until recently, they spent going thru hell because of the murderers. It is a real eye opener about why death penalty was put there in the first place. I've never felt so bad for a victims family and one of my best friends was in a family touched by murder. That was pretty awful! A lot of these guys really have no remorse and see themselves as the true victims.

    1{A Psalm of David.} The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.
    2He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.
    3He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake.
    4Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.
    5Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.
    6Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever.

    February 25th 2010
    Charles Dean Hood, the death row inmate whose case has drawn national attention because of a relationship between the presiding judge and prosecutor at his trial, has been granted a new punishment hearing by the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals.
    The new hearing was not ordered because of the acknowledged relationship, but because the court ruled that the jury was not given proper instructions on how to consider Hood's background when determining his punishment.

    He was granted a new trial because the judge & DA in his case finally admitted they had a long standing affair & his lawyer filed that he didn't get a fair trial. At his new trial, he pled guilty to get a life term instead of chancing another death penalty. I believe in the death penalty but, in this case, I wonder if he pled guilty so he didn't have to go through another circus like he did or if he was really guilty. The victims family was happy but, is Hood really the guy? Or was he just scared? I don't know this case so I'd appreciate some insight from someone who does know all the ins & outs of it.

    • @frackious

      +nodak01 Of course he is guilty. They were going to kick him out of the house. The woman told her sister she was afraid of him. The man came home, couldnt find his gf but there was some stupid note obviously written by Dean saying she had gone out jogging. The man called 911 and Hood's voice can be heard in the background on the 911 tape. The police arrive 3 minutes later and find the man shot in the back of the head and the woman shot and stuffed in the closet. Hood took cash, credit cards, and jewelry from their safe and the V's car and drives to Indiana. he's arrested 26 hours later.

    • @frackious
      @frackious 8 років тому

      +nodak01 To be clear, he was granted a new sentencing trial because of a change in the laws. The case was remanded back to the trial court and it was there that he was offered a plea deal. They never reversed the finding of guilt. The judge & the DA had a very brief fling years earlier. I think she was embarrassed to admit it. Defense attys all said everyone knew about it so why didnt the defense attys file a motion for the judge to recuse herself from the case? Seems like invited error by the defense. And no, he got a fair trial. There is a transcript of all the evid. and rulings that was reviewed and no error was found. If they had retried him, he wd have been found guilty and sentenced to death again. As to his brother, I think you are mixing up cases. :)

So this cat, who is experiencing nothing of interest in fact, is amplifying the tedious little events of his execution process to supercharged Shakespeare.
    The interviewer should just tell him to cut the drama and be a man. Let him know you don't want to hear his sob story.

    I used to be for the death penalty,wrote a paper on it in college,in my paper I wrote that probally 80% of the people who are against the death penalty would change their mind if the person charged with murder had executed their loved one.Over the years I’ve given it more thought I’m older 59 and have more life experience, I’ve thought about the people who have been sentenced and put to death who we’re really innocent,one case that comes to mind was a young Hispanic man in Texas Ruben Cantu,and even if you don’t agree he was framed you how their have been some innocent people over the years,know that and especially being a Christian I am against the death penalty now one innocent person put to death is too many.Give them life without parole in solitary confinement some say that’s worst then death,and in the in death comes to us all.And yes i am against the death penalty even if if were my loved one who was murdered.

      I used to be against the death penalty but now I'm not so sure, I look at some of the heinous crimes they are convicted of and feel they have forfeited their right to life, I am familiar with the Ruben Cantu case and many others where I feel they should not/be executed, I too watch Execution Watch with Ray Hill RIP but why should they live bill free while we have to worry and work to live but mainly because their crimes are so awful, I'm 58 soon to be 59 a father of 6 boys and 4 girls.
