Thanks, Joe, that was very helpful. I pulled the actuator apart and found a broken plastic piece that is used by the manual release and the actuator to rotate the same bit you're pushing on with the screwdriver. Once in there, I bent the manual release leaver straight. It was just long enough to actuate the lock. I.e. you can open the boot internally with your key as a temporary measure..
I hope it works on a hatchback too. Message me if you are struggling, but as long as you can see the locking “tooth” from inside the hatchback then you should after a bit of jiggling be able to manipulate the mechanism to pop it open. (Practice on the new part of you need to).
