Thank you so much for this video. I have a Hyundai Elantra with this issue and you're the only person whose video addressed the actual issue and helped us fix it.
Just did this on my 2016 hyundai elantra and it worked perfectly! took me no more then 5 minutes! Tools needed are a Long pry bar, slim flash light, and the tension bar just like she described! And for everyone thats been commenting “theres a hidden key hole” NO there is not ANY hidden key holes to release the trunk or backseats down from inside the car. Everything is inside the trunk
Hyundai likes to add variety to how these things work for some reason. My 2015 has the key hole , which my wife located just as I about cracked my rear seat apart.
2013 Hundai Elantra. Had to unscrew the cup holder thing in the middle to give me more room but this was the only video that worked. Thank you for posting this!
Going to try this. My 2018 elantra trunk is jammed shut. Wil report back next week as I am out of town working. Was searching for a solution and found your video. Makes sense!!
Babe I really need to thank you dearly. You saved me so much money. Once I got the 5ft post it worked like a charm . You are my hero!!!!!! I have the same Elantra
I have a friend who got rear-ended - if we force open the trunk, it likely won't close - but she has a lot of stuff in there that she needs - this will work the problem - THANKS!
Thanks for this video tip....this is really the only plausible solution out there. Solo job with metal bar to pry it open enough to see release with flashlight, I ended up using a broom handle instead of having to buy anything to push the release. I did have to replace the trunk latch, with the new replacement latch, everything is working as good as new.
Thanks for the tip. Another video recommended cutting a whole in through the back of the center seat. Didn't want to do that..... I actually had a long thin pole in the garage from another project. With about 20 minutes of using your tip/recommendation....i got it! Thanks so much for the idea. Now, on to the next step and trying to open the trunk.
Rather a poor design, having the latch release inside the trunk for the backseats. Most cars have the tab release to release the seats to pull forward. My former neighbor had a Hyundai Elantra I'm sure it was older than yours. I remember her pushing the seats down from inside the car, when I helped her load a flat screen TV into the trunk.
Thanks for the tip a rather troublesome situation. I probably would have gotten to it eventually but you saved me a few steps and headaches thanks again.
Thank you!!! Thia helped out so much! Right after I ended up taking the latch part and putting it on the seats like how it should be!! Just in case it happens again!
You are a life saver! I just did this and it worked. It takes a bit of maneuvering especially finding the seat release with limited visibility. I used a crow bar to pry the seat open and a rake wooden handle to push on the release. Thank you so much. I owe you one.
Once you open the bank seats can you hop in there and open itv yourself? Or is it a small space because i feel i could fit in there and not need to get the extra tools
Hi so what if I don’t have the seat part to pull my seats down to get into the trunk? Your video is showing it’s already out? I can’t even pull my seats down
Me and maintenance guy from my job try this same technique and it didn't work for my 2013 Hyundai Elantra. Looks like I'm going to have to take it to the dealer. Thanks anyway for your video
My car has had this issue for over a year now. Today I randomly pulled the lever and the trunk opened like normal. Closed it and tried again. Back to not working. So weird.
So I was having the same problem with my car right now and what seem to work for me was I held the lever up for the trunk release and also press the trunk release on my key fob at the same time
I KNOW this is an old video. But my latch broke a few years ago. So I decided to wire it shut. Flash back to yesterday I realized you can only pull down the seats through the trunk. Anyways this video is the ONLY solution. Thank you! The design is flat out STUPID!
This is a recall now so Hyundai will fix it for free. But my dealership told me they would fix it and then said they didn’t have enough time because it was stuck shut. All my beach gear is stuck in there and I’ve run out of patience lol I’m going to give this a try
Reason the seats detach the lock from insde the trunk is incase someone is locked in a truck (kid napped etc) they can use it as an escape route or children in the back set cannot release the lock and crawl in trunk et
There's an easier way with the key in the trunk, it takes a few tries but it works. Put the key in, twist whilst working the button/ latch simultaneously.
Won't work if there is no key hole. Some of the car mainly with backup camera have no key hole. Also my lock was jammed closed I had to remove the whole latch.
i had this happen at the airport, because the truck was overfilled. i first pulled the lever thats on the floor....no dice. after freaking out of 8 minutes and tring the lever several times to no a vale . i used the remote and bingo the truck open as usaul.
Try this before doing what she suggested: Use the physical key hidden in your key fob to open the trunk. The keyhole is by the rear view camera above the license plate. Once opened, look at the latch on the trunk hatch and you’ll see 2 padlock symbols; one open and one closed. Flip the switch to the right of the symbols to the unlock position and you’re good to go. That switch likely accidentally go hit by something that flipped it to the closed position and locked the trunk. It takes 10 seconds!
Yea would work but some cars don't have that key hole I had tried to do that. Looks for hours to try and find a key hole and even if there was one it would not have helped. The latch was stuck closed I had to disassemble the whole lock just to remove it.
I have a 2013 hyunda accent so can't do as you said. But i do believe the problem is the the padlock symbol you mentioned is on the locked position. just don't know how to fix it.
My switch in tmy 2015 Sonata was switched by a big canvas bag that was in my trunk when I closed the lid. I tried locating these cables to the seats, but my 2015 seems to have sealed them from the front compartment. My wife learned that the valet key inside the FOB inserted into the keyhole above the license plate and this opened the trunk. I was almost to the point of destroying my rear seat to access the trunk. Thank you for posting thias video and comments.
why are you showing this video using 1/4 of the avaiilable screen instead of using all the available screen space. We can barely see you tobegin with. Way to much unnecessary talking. Go through the video first and geh when you get right you shoot the bideo and not they other way around.

Did you have to replace the lock?
I’m having the problem right now!! And it is not letting me pry it open as easily has she makes it seem can you help please!!?
2013 Hundai Elantra. Had to unscrew the cup holder thing in the middle to give me more room but this was the only video that worked. Thank you for posting this!
You’re a lifesaver! Worked like a charm and you saved me the $225 the dealer wanted to charge just to look at it. Best $10 I ever spent.
That's awesome glad I could help
Did you need to replace the latch?
@@clbdyc yes I had to take the whole thing off and replace just the latch.
Going to try this. My 2018 elantra trunk is jammed shut. Wil report back next week as I am out of town working. Was searching for a solution and found your video. Makes sense!!
@@cshaiku There has been a recall for this issue recently. Check to see if u qualify for it .
👍Yup! Best $8 ever spent! Worked perfect! Nobody else shares a workable solution for this issue. Thank you so much for taking the time to share this!

Yo, it worked! I had almost given up. It wasn’t easy but got it done. Thanks!
I glad you got it.
It worked! Got my daughters seats down and I released the trunk and replaced the latch! All for 29 bucks!

Thank you…this is the only video that actually helped us 🙏
Thank you, was bit of a challenge with groceries in the boot, but you save us the expense of them going to waste.
Thank you! I have been trying to get my trunk open for days!
You're welcome

I’ve been trying for so long, Ik I’ll get it eventually but your right a lot of maneuvering
Thx u i worked for hrs trying to figure out the design of latches. When my niece comes back i will get it done.🎉
Thank you so much! How did you get the trunk to unlatch? My trunk latch is jammed and I have the new part but I can’t get the latch open to replace it
I had to get in the trunk and take the whole lock mechanism off. It should just be screwed or bolted.
@@MarasLife88 thank you 🙏🏻
@@williamh977 you are welcome if u still have trouble let me know and I will make a video of how to do it.
@@MarasLife88 will do, I get the part later this week. So it will be done Thursday or Friday
@@MarasLife88 thank you again! I fixed it this morning and I wouldn’t have ever figured it out without you 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

Excellent video you are the shit I didn’t know how else to get the trunk open. Kudos to you for making this video.
Thank you my fellow North Carolinian 🤗
My issue is 2014. Fob won't pop it. Is it a cylinoid issue?
This video helped me quite a lot thank you!
You are welcome. I'm so glad it has helped others.
How did you get the seat down? My 2012 trunk cable is broken but my seats don't come down without using the latch inside the trunk.
Follow the video I tell how to do it I know it's not great quality but I show how to do it.
Just got it!!!!! Wooooo I love you
Awesome!!!!!
Thank you SO MUCH!!! I just did this exactly as you described and it worked flawlessly!
Thank you Mara! 😂 Wow! I hope it goes better for me. But, at least now I know it CAN be done. 😊
You are welcome.
Hi so what if I don’t have the seat part to pull my seats down to get into the trunk? Your video is showing it’s already out? I can’t even pull my seats down
I explain what u have to do to get it down in the video.
But how did you get the seat to fold down?
This is my problem can’t get either seat down …help
Me and maintenance guy from my job try this same technique and it didn't work for my 2013 Hyundai Elantra. Looks like I'm going to have to take it to the dealer. Thanks anyway for your video
How much did it cost to get it fixed where you could open the trunk from the back?
I got the part on Amazon for under $25 and the bar was like $7.
My car has had this issue for over a year now. Today I randomly pulled the lever and the trunk opened like normal. Closed it and tried again. Back to not working. So weird.
From another video suggestion. I pulled the lever and pressed the fob trunk release at the same time and it worked 😂
How did you get that set down from the inside?
I explained it in the video you have to use a thin long pole to push the lever
So I was having the same problem with my car right now and what seem to work for me was I held the lever up for the trunk release and also press the trunk release on my key fob at the same time
Yea I had done that... my lock was jammed so bad.

Was the seat latch released inside the trunk or no ?
Yes, the seat latch is inside the trunk.
Thank you oh so very much, it worked
Thank you it’s been two year since I use my truck.
Worked great 👍
Thank you so much!! You saved us!!
You are most welcome
2015 Hyundai Sonata wish me luck I’m going to try this
POW.🙂 Thanks this will help me.
Skip her gibberish, real video starts at 01:30
Can use the key?
Some cars do not have a key spot especially if it has a backup camera.
This doesn’t work in a 2016 sonata
Reason the seats detach the lock from insde the trunk is incase someone is locked in a truck (kid napped etc) they can use it as an escape route or children in the back set cannot release the lock and crawl in trunk et
But every trunk has a emergency trunk release. Most vehicles have a way to access trunk manually from in side but not these ones.
Exactly and if the latch is broken the emergency unlock does not unlock!!!!

Your gonna hate me but you can use the key hole to unlock it it's a different switch then the automatic switch
The elantras with a back up camera do not have a key whole. Trust I searched for it for a long time.
Also mine was so jammed that even if there was a key whole it would not have helped. I had to disassemble the whole latch from inside the trunk.
My manual Keyhole was broke so this video wasn't huge help
