Very educational. I have never seen a taxidermist at work. He is right that being ambidextrous is a virtue especially in his line of professional work. The crow's ringtone on your cell phone is fantastic. You are definitely in tune with nature.

This was educational and interesting at the same time. Seeing this done by a professional, inside his shop, is so much different than seeing one of my cousins that's a "taxidermist in training", lol. 🦌

I agree, a professional makes a big difference. Thank you for watching.

Great video, had a bunch of them done but always wondered how they got around the antlers and the cape off. Thanks!

Very informative video. Liked seeing how he used a screwdriver to get the hide and hair pulled away from the base of the antlers 👍

My friends who are taxidermist, showed my to do this years ago. Makes it so nice when out of state. I put the cape in a bag in the cooler with my meat. This prevents any slippage the hide may get from getting to warm (rot). Also when I cut antlers off of skull, takes up a lot less space.

Are deer affected with bot fly larvae in North America, never heard that but makes sense that those awful things have moved north from South America. Had a friend that did taxidermy when I lived up in Michigan and helped him cape out a few bucks and he did it very close to the same way but everyone has their own little tricks. Great vid thanks.

Likely hasn't been kept at safe temperatures. Definitely could have salvaged that meat during the initial skinning. Neck roasts are great.

Remember a High Fence Ranch is a deer farm. They raise deer to be hunted for money.

I’ve never understood the appeal of hunting in a high fenced area. Mostly rich people paying exorbitant fees to easily get a trophy buck. Not real hunting IMO.

I guess there's more than one way to skin a deer..
My dad did taxidermy work on the side when I was younger. He told me he was the only one in our area that did not cut the "V" (or a Y in this video) behind the antlers to limit the stitching. Said over time it would break down and you could see it.
I can't answer questions on how it did what he did because I have no clue but he did it for 10-12 years and had repeating customers so....

Well congratulations on your dear I guess every taxidermist does it a little different but I can assure you the taxidermist down here in the South don't cut all the way down the center of the neck they shave the hide off of the neck Roll It Off like a glove and they only cut a y pattern cut between the bass of each antler. And after putting the deer head on the mount and installing the antlers on the mount there is only about 15 or 20 stitches bringing everything together but everyone does things a little different
