Thanks for the stroll down memory lane . I remember back about 40 years ago tying these with a red tag on them and fishing my ultra light spinning rod with a bubble and a Renegade on Ranger lakes and Chambers lake and having a field day . Thanks for the memory :-)

This pattern has been great with the native trout on my small local creek

I acquired a small display case of fishing flies from the early 1970s. The wooden display case and inner plastic fly box boxes were filled with dust from having sat in a shop for several decades. Earlier today, I decided to clean it all up and see exactly what I had in there. One of the boxes was labeled Renegade. It was empty. The flies were not all in their proper places and I didn't know what each one was called, being fairly new to fly fishing, so I had to look up what a Renegade is. I ended up with several of these. I thought it might be fun to try to tie some, and then your video showed up in my feed! Surely that must be a sign. I think I'll go play!

I've fished the old patterns since sixty two years ago.... Adams, Royal Wolff, Crackleback, Renegade, Compara Dun, Black Ant, Bivisable, and Dry Wooly Worm(Griffiths Gnat) and others. The Renegade has always, always worked wonderfully.

One of my all-time favorite flies. I've been tying it for years so it is fun to see how a pro ties it!! Thank you!!

Enjoying the old school patterns. Never used them but know a guy who hooked a large cruising golden trout that would take nothing else on a lake in the Wind River range.

Fishing with my Dad and Grandpa back in the mid 80s to the mid 90s, both would say this was the greatest fly ever made! I've caught (no kidding) hundreds upon hundreds of fish with this fly. And not one on a fly rod! just a regular rod, clear bubble, 6 foot leader, renegade. slow retrieve and trout after trout!

I'm a geezer now - 66 years old. I tied these commercially when I was 13. It was required back then to put a thick under body of thread under the peacock hurl body. They wanted them fat. 10 years ago I fished a local water: Salmon River in Idaho with a guide and I put a size 12 Renegade on my tippit and the young guide thought I was nuts. I caught fish all day with it.... it made the young man a believer. The Renegade was created by a famous Sun Valley Idaho guide by the name of "Bear Tracks" Williams in the 1930's. That's where Ernest Hemingway learned to use the fly on Silver Creek, the Big Wood River and other waters near his beloved Ketchum, Idaho.

Great fly, Charlie. I've tied and fished this fly for longer than I care to admit. One of my favorites!

Perfect tie once again…….love all the vids, keep em comin! You should try and find out about a pattern called a Translucent Caddis……it’s out of head hunters fly shop and there is NOTHING out there on how to tie it or it’s originator. It’s since replaced the “dry” version of the LaFontaine sparkle pupa in my box……just a killer fly. You got some homework to do……get to it…..Brian

Is it just me, or is your voice still a little scratchy (clipping)? IMO, it's not as good as your older vids. Just as (maybe) helpful info. Cheers! :-)

I shot a bunch of videos before I figured out that mic sensitivity was a bit hot on the new camera. I’ve got it dialed in on the new vids but there are still some from that first batch that are gonna be a bit rough. Sorry about that.

Please delete this video. The Renegade is too good to share.
