Aired in the early morning hours of January 1, 1981 between 2:28 and 2:30 AM. Incidentally, most newspapers listed _Boardwalk_ (for January 2) as airing after the _Muppet Movie;_ as HBO would (predictably) have run the 95-minute cut of that film, I would suspect HBO subscribers would have had to wait five or ten minutes for _Boardwalk_ to run as a result.
@@ArchiveAnnex This is, by count, my THIRD try at posting this reply. This could have been recorded from any time zone. My main sources were the Philadelphia Inquirer and the Staunton News Leader, which were from the East Coast. But HBO had also put in a West Coast feed by that time so it would have also aired between 2:28 and 2:30 AM PT on January 1, 1981.
A very odd HBO “Next On” slide, made even odder by an HBO ID playing in the background instead of the regular theme, made even odder by the appearance of the slide slowly moving like water (probably because of the tape).
I love these classic hbo 80s commerical breaks they are charming and have some neat promos Hbo back then also has their own night flight called hbo short takes They even had a video jukebox back in the day While I do like some of the more experimental shows hbo did in the 90s and 2000s idk the 80s bumpers have alot more charm
I think Ben could do a whole episode alone on the HBO intro to movies. Up until the early '90s they were all classy and regal. Bespeaks of the kind of movies they showed back then too. While there were box office bombs they also took chances with stuff that normal TV didn't show back then (I'm not talking about the Rated R stuff either). You'd see plays, indie films, etc. Almost the polar opposite of it is today where they just show the same mindless movies ad nauseum.
Happy New years to you Benny boy Happy New years to you Ed and Happy New years to to Sergie Sergie are you having a new radio show this year for New years let me know

Any idea what time zone? If that's Eastern, it would've still been 12/31/80 on the west coast.

Never heard of Boardwalk but it looks more like a TV movie of the week than a feature film.
also looks not-so-vaguely racist
I saw that burlesque show. Don’t tell my folks.
I did too. It was pretty unremarkable.
🤣

HBO. How different everything was in 1980. I hate to say it butI saw Pete's Dragon at the theater and liked it. I was 7 at the time.
Pete's Dragon is the first movie I remember seeing in a theater!
The original is CERTAINLY better than the weird remake.

...and you wonder why people who grew up in this era of paying for crap like this became the pioneers of pirating.
I plan Boardwalk then Homebodies then Death Wish 3 for an evening
Zappy New Year Ben!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Happy New years to you Benny boy Happy New years to you Ed and Happy New years to to Sergie
Sergie are you having a new radio show this year for New years let me know
No Sergei this year. If anything, Sergei has pretty well expended anything holiday (or holiday-ish) appropriate that I've got.
First.
