ਕਪੂਰਥਲਾ, ਪੰਜਾਬ ਵਿੱਚ ਸ਼ਾਲੀਮਾਰ ਬਾਗ, 19ਵੀਂ ਸਦੀ ਦੇ ਅੰਤ ਵਿੱਚ, ਕਪੂਰਥਲਾ ਰਿਆਸਤ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਾਸਕ ਮਹਾਰਾਜਾ ਜਗਤਜੀਤ ਸਿੰਘ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਬਣਾਇਆ ਗਿਆ ਇੱਕ ਸੁੰਦਰ ਬਾਗ ਹੈ। ਸ਼੍ਰੀਨਗਰ, ਕਸ਼ਮੀਰ ਦੇ ਮਸ਼ਹੂਰ ਸ਼ਾਲੀਮਾਰ ਬਾਗ ਤੋਂ ਪ੍ਰੇਰਿਤ, ਮਹਾਰਾਜਾ ਜਗਤਜੀਤ ਸਿੰਘ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਰਾਜ ਦੀ ਸੁੰਦਰਤਾ ਨੂੰ ਵਧਾਉਣ ਲਈ ਇਸ ਬਾਗ ਦੀ ਉਸਾਰੀ ਦਾ ਕੰਮ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਕੀਤਾ।
ਸ਼ਾਲੀਮਾਰ ਬਾਗ ਦਾ ਨਿਰਮਾਣ 1885 ਵਿੱਚ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਹੋਇਆ ਸੀ ਅਤੇ 1891 ਵਿੱਚ ਪੂਰਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਸੀ। ਬਾਗ਼ ਨੂੰ ਫ੍ਰੈਂਚ ਲੈਂਡਸਕੇਪ ਆਰਕੀਟੈਕਟ ਡੇਸਵਿਗਨੇਸ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਡਿਜ਼ਾਇਨ ਕੀਤਾ ਗਿਆ ਸੀ, ਜਿਸ ਵਿੱਚ ਮੁਗਲ ਅਤੇ ਫਰਾਂਸੀਸੀ ਬਗੀਚੀ ਸ਼ੈਲੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਤੱਤ ਸ਼ਾਮਲ ਸਨ। ਲਗਭਗ 28 ਏਕੜ ਦੇ ਖੇਤਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਫੈਲੇ, ਸ਼ਾਲੀਮਾਰ ਬਾਗ ਵਿੱਚ ਛੱਤ ਵਾਲੇ ਲਾਅਨ, ਸੁੰਦਰ ਫੁੱਲਾਂ ਦੇ ਬਿਸਤਰੇ, ਫੁਹਾਰੇ, ਪਾਣੀ ਦੇ ਚੈਨਲ ਅਤੇ ਸੰਗਮਰਮਰ ਦੇ ਮੰਡਪ ਹਨ।
ਬਾਗ਼ ਨੇ ਸ਼ਾਹੀ ਪਰਿਵਾਰ ਲਈ ਵਾਪਸੀ ਲਈ ਕੰਮ ਕੀਤਾ ਅਤੇ ਸ਼ਾਨਦਾਰ ਪਾਰਟੀਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਸਮਾਗਮਾਂ ਦੀ ਮੇਜ਼ਬਾਨੀ ਲਈ ਵੀ ਵਰਤਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਸੀ। ਇਹ ਕਪੂਰਥਲਾ ਰਿਆਸਤ ਦੀ ਅਮੀਰੀ ਅਤੇ ਸ਼ਾਨ ਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਤੀਕ ਬਣ ਗਿਆ।
1947 ਵਿੱਚ ਭਾਰਤ ਨੂੰ ਆਜ਼ਾਦੀ ਮਿਲਣ ਅਤੇ ਰਿਆਸਤਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਭਾਰਤੀ ਸੰਘ ਵਿੱਚ ਜੋੜਨ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਅਦ, ਸ਼ਾਲੀਮਾਰ ਬਾਗ ਇੱਕ ਜਨਤਕ ਜਾਇਦਾਦ ਬਣ ਗਿਆ। ਅੱਜ, ਇਹ ਕਪੂਰਥਲਾ ਵਿੱਚ ਇੱਕ ਪ੍ਰਸਿੱਧ ਸੈਲਾਨੀ ਆਕਰਸ਼ਣ ਹੈ, ਇਸਦੇ ਸ਼ਾਂਤ ਮਾਹੌਲ ਅਤੇ ਸੁੰਦਰ ਮਾਹੌਲ ਨਾਲ ਸੈਲਾਨੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਖਿੱਚਦਾ ਹੈ।
Shalimar Bagh in Kapurthala, Punjab, is a beautiful garden built by Maharaja Jagatjit Singh, the ruler of the Kapurthala princely state, in the late 19th century. Inspired by the famous Shalimar Bagh in Srinagar, Kashmir, Maharaja Jagatjit Singh commissioned the construction of this garden to enhance the beauty of his kingdom.
Construction of Shalimar Bagh began in 1885 and was completed in 1891. The garden was designed by French landscape architect Desvignes, who incorporated elements of both Mughal and French garden styles. Spread over an area of about 28 acres, Shalimar Bagh features terraced lawns, beautiful flower beds, fountains, water channels, and marble pavilions.
The garden served as a retreat for the royal family and was also used for hosting lavish parties and events. It became a symbol of the opulence and grandeur of the Kapurthala princely state.
After India gained independence in 1947 and the princely states were integrated into the Indian Union, Shalimar Bagh became a public property. Today, it is a popular tourist attraction in Kapurthala, drawing visitors with its serene ambiance and picturesque surroundings.
