I do have this in color, but I like the black n white better... also there's a few seconds of the tape that are bad around 2:00 ish. Sorry bout that, its pretty quick... hope ya'll enjoy anyway
I dunno, after seeing it here, its awfully grainy in BnW. Maybe I'll post the colour one as well... maybe Ill learn how to properly edit movies...
Reminds me of that TV show.
You’re a TV show
Boardwalk Empire😍
All I can see are bootleg whiskey bottles shattering into dock pillars...
Man, I hope Anton cleans up and tours again, and stops the bad vibes bullshit. At their best BJM are magic.
This song takes me back to the happier days of my psychedelic youth.
I love how Anton looks over at the band and Jeff at 4:33 he’s like alright man if you don’t start ripping it at the beginning of this solo dude, I’m gonna be pissed lmfao
that is hilarious!! and you're right.
Saw them at CBGBs c. 1997. Funny gig -- too many guitars; too many cigarettes; everybody in the band seemed like they were pissed off and they sounded amazing. I ended up walking home with a girl named Cordelia, past 14th st., into the dawn.
Well thats a very accurate desciption of the band pure chaos creating such art
THATS BEAUTIFUL MAN
Pissed off and then beautiful live music started playing! That's exactly my initial experience in seeing the BJTM documentary along with the Dandy Warhols. My whole life other people introduced me to music, I knew a fair amount of musicians and that's where I heard new music from. Seeing that documentary was like my first foray into new music for me that was also live and it was incredible! Been listening for about 10 years now.
Amazing guitar solo from Jeff! I wish he was back in the band.
Jeff's guitar work always raises the overall value and justifies the damage we do to our eardrums. When a BJM video he's present in or song where he was in the recording is played back at high volume.
Wonder if he’s still alive
@@simoltan he is, alive and well
@@simoltan paz the band
what the hell, this solo is mindblowing !
Yeah the two solos at once gotta love it
Absolute banger of a song. They produced some unreal music.
I was parked at the beach once, jammin to this song, and this guy, about 50 years old, came over and was like "what the fuck are you listening to?" HE thought it was something from the '60s he'd missed or something. I told him the name of the band, he had to actually write it down, then he walked away like the first thing he was gonna do was go check them out. People that really know music, when they discover this, are just smitten.
agreed-I've tried to turn them onto many people, unfortunately only a few gave it a chance and dug it-
My kid found BJM, turned me on to them , Bonus
I was at this gig at Spaceland! What a lineup w Jeffy Davis and Frankie Emerson! ❤
You mean the Empty Bottle in Chicago?
This is Killer. Love this. Thank you for sharing this video!!!!!
This is why Jeff Davies was referred to by Courtney of the Dandy's as "Anton's genius guitarist"
I love this comment. just wanted to cement it to memory. peace 🙏🏽🙂☮️
Does anyone know if he’s still playing? He really is incredible. I’d listen to any band he was/is a part of.
@@dethkon Black Rebel Motorcycle Club
@@dethkon he was playing 5-6 years ago with a band called Premonitions I believe from LA…maybe still playing around town? Who knows.
Because he is a talented man. Long live Jeffrey Davies
Best live performance of any song. EVER.
@taylorhippie fyi-That's Dave Koenig on bass and Hunter Crowley on drums. Raugust is the girl (who played flute on Servo and a couple other songs). This is the line-up that recorded "Bravery, Repetition & Noise".
Love the synergy between Davies and Newcombe's guitars. They are/were really great together. Hope there's a chance to see that again on some new music.
Won't happen.
Agreed. If only. What ever happened to Jeff?
@@bluestevo93 he's doing music in another realm. Grooving high...
prolly the most rock n' roll they ever got on vids - what a frothing jam!
I was there!!
Fabulous version. Thanks!
Thanks for posting!!!!!! Just saw them in SF last month.....The old footage is cool to watch....Amazing band!!!!! Some people don't realize that Anton writes, produces, and records BJM music, basically by himself......just Amazing!!!!
the jam from 4:3 on takes all the great jam solos of the early 70s and sticks a guitar pick made of unstable plutonium in em and starts an effing meltdown.
You captured a great performance. Thanks for the upload.
and nucky thompson just walks out with his hands above his waist just walking around all the stage for the whole song acting mysterious and suspicious, that would be funny
That guitar jam. Simply awesome.
4:36 - 7:40 holy fucking acid rock
They are shredding it here 😮😮😮
Seen them in Belfast 2017 played for 3 hours. Amazing set only regret I never this song live
Funny how the name of the venue is "The Empty Bottle" in Chicago. Especially if you know that this is the main theme for tv series Boardwalk Empire.
now that i did NOT know , awesome , i`ll be using that in conversation if i ever talk to anyone again ... too busy playing solo at the end and turning to the amp for a squeal lol ... thanks for the trivia i shall win beer with it
This is phenomenal! Thanks for posting.
thank you so much for the upload
god i love them so much
@Zandov My pleasure! I love them too, still to this day as much as I did then, almost 20 years on this video now!
@@taylorhippie its a great time to be a BJM fan with anton thriving and cranking out new tunes, but i always find myself drawn back to these golden days, most of which were before i was even born. jeff, frankie, and anton absolutely killed it on this specific vid, had me up and jumping around and that means something
with genius guitarist Jeff Davies--insane-thanks
Brian Jones, the blonde God-Poet of Electricity, residing now in the Halls of the Cloud Kings, can grant thunder and absolution to Anton and his guitar warriors when they send sonic offerings to the dark skies like this. Anton finishes on his knees and Brian Jones winks and unleashes a torrent of narcotic rain and hail. Straight up and down. That's right.
TubobRainbowUnicorn keep music evil, brother
Once again I comeback to this comment which solidifies itself as one of the coolest fucking things I’ve ever seen written.
best band in the world
There was quite a kerfuffle about this tune as it was the title music for HBOs Boardwalk Empire, but they only used the opening riff, which Jeffy Davis came up with. Naturally Anton signed the contract and took the payout. Later Jeffy heard about it and got a lawyer, and won! This was around 2012? BJM had to do a tour just to reimburse Jeffy for the entire buyout HBO gave him.
The showstopping performance this song deserves.
They are good now, but not even close to the great band they were with Jeff Davies and Matt Hollywood.
the solo is absolutely awesome! simply great !
My favorite song ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever.
the solo made me go holy shit
@robyale Thanks, much appreciated. Dave not Ben... Feel bad, but Im just horrible with names. They were tight. I had forgotten that was pretty much the line up for "Bravery". I knew the bassist was on it, in fact I thought that was him on the cover for quite a while... Found out it was Jim Jarmusch, felt silly... anyway thanks for fillin' in that lineup, very much appreciated!
Very nice version.
anton floats into space at 4:05. love that part of the song
this is great thanks
I wish my girlfriend did her makeup as good as Jeff Davies!
Also hi Taylor, my copy of keep music evil finally came. I'm not that far into it though, I'm at the part just after they signed with Greg Shaw/bomp! I'll just call you today actually
Man, nice. Sound quality is great. Post 'em all dude, these are cool.
@li4m Pleased you enjoyed it, thank you! And of course The BJM!!!
great tune
Awesome!!
Legendary band
@DrGeophysics Thanks, I posted every song I taped in its entirety from two nights of the 91 late summer tour. Im pretty sure I threw up most of the relevant stuff, music wise for sure. Obviously on my page, check em out. Cleveland was their own show, so they played, and hung out kinda, for hours... Chicago they opened for the chamber strings, and as you can hear left people yelling for"more!" So, not so many songs that night. But it was a nice strong set I thought, think
this is great, thank you
Sympathy for the Devil + Hey Jude = Straight Up and Down..........love the jam-out at the end
@taylorhippie the glitch at the beginning of this video clip was caused by one or a combination of two things. All tape-based recorders cause wear on the tape. Especially, if you record and rerecord on the tape. Plus, heat is not the friend of any kind of tape.
this is true. old cassette's in cars and vhs in vcr's, if in temperature 100 fahrenheit or more, it shrivels and shrinks overtime, causing the playback to be, either higher pitch or slightly faster.
Actually, while driving the next day, I accidentally hit record to film some scenery and pretty immediately realized I was taping over this performance... yeah... still get mad at myself about this.
Everyone in the band FUCKING rocked it !!!!! Best performance n song!! I DIG it.
Do I hear a few bars from Led Zep's Ramble On, in this tune ?
@taylorhippie 4:37 to end more than makes up for any problems with the quality. Holy shit.
epic version
rip kevin junior
Bad ASS!! Kick ass song! They totally rocked this one out& i FUCKING love it. Love BJM!!! Love the song. Love the guys! Love thus kind if music!!! Fuck yeah!!
...good band
I musta been right next to you? That’s me yelling “More Anton!” And looks like Adam Shore there in front. I’m guessing this is 2001-2?
No tambourine?
Fuck yeah ❤
@novita365 Just an old tape gone bad I guess... they sat around for almost 10 years before I posted these.
@rusty8mm Well, Left is Jeff Davies, behind him Mr Rob Campanella on keys and guitar, Frankie Teardrop on guitar. Can't remember the drummers name... or the bassiest, think it was Ben something maybe? I could find out, I dont believe either of them were a Jeff... The girl I don't remember an Anton... Hope that might help
They sound like the Velvet Underground.
“...Velvet Underground of the ‘90s” - Zena of Dandy Warhol’s in DIG!
Where's joel?? Ain't the same without the tambourine
@Newspeakuk Frankie "Teardrop" Emerson
@rusty8mm Yeah... an is short for and... and Anton is a name.
Donde esta Jo-hel?
Where the fuck is nucky
Who the hell is nucky? ....
taylorhippie Straight up and down is the introduction song to the HBO series "Boardwalk Empire", Nucky Thompson played by Steve Buscemi is the show's protagonist (or rather antagonist if you will)
PartiZAn18 OK. I am well aware its the theme song from the show, Ive never watched it however. I thought they were asking about someone who may have have been in the BJM named Nucky... Of course theres been many people who have played w them. Nucky was one I didn't remotely recognize, for good reason obviously! So thanks for clearing that up for me
+taylorhippie Whattup Taylor! Anyway, I was wondering when I was gonna see your name pop up on youtube. dig it!!
+taylorhippie Man dig out that color version too if you still have it, I'd watch it.
No Joel?
@taylorhippie WTF? 91? .... meant 2001. Sorry bout that
The end of the golden age
Jeffs solo at 4:37
Fan-fucking-tastic
is that Jeff Levitz in the back?
what happened at 1:50 ? :(
@taylorhippie Whats an Anton?
Burrito Supreme A hill.
What's up with the glitch and someone else singing. Anmmd badly
Fuck yes.....uM Fuck Yes AGAIN. 666666666666666666666666
:)
Keep music evil!
never knew that they would cover a song from boardwalk empire. what a rip off. do your own song!
You're a rip off
Matt Hollywood slappin d bass!
is it just me or do they sound like OASIS !!!
Fuck oasis
is it just you
Are you FUKIN serious?? Ur ear for music is shite my friend.
Velvet underground of the 90s
Anton absorbed the ‘60s; Noel Gallagher plagiarized, literally ripping off riffs and melodies. One a conduit, the other a tape recorder. There’s a difference.
This video makes me hot
