- The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face by Roberta Flack is featured in Yes/No, the tenth episode of Season Three. It is sung by Mercedes, Rachel, Santana and Tina.
As part of the Glee Club's assignment to find the perfect song for Will's proposal to Emma, Mercedes, Rachel, Santana and Tina perform a quartet rendition of this song. Right before the performance begins, the girls ask Will to think back to the first time he ever saw Emma's face. During the song, each of the girls has a flashback to an important moment they shared with their respective loved ones. Rachel has a flashback to when she and Finn locked eyes for the first time in the hallway, Santana has a flashback to when she and Brittany smiled at each other in the girls locker room, Tina remembers the time she and Mike shared a romantic picnic together and Mercedes, although currently dating Shane, has a flashback to when she and Sam first saw each other near the football field.
It is apparent that Mercedes felt guilty about thinking about Sam during the song, because at the end of the song she emotionally runs out of the auditorium and into the nearby bathroom. Tina, Santana, and Rachel find her and talk to her about the situation with the two boys.

The fact that Santana smiled at Brittany the first time she saw her tells a lot about how much she loved Brittany. She wouldn't have smiled at someone the first time she saw them, especially a cheerleader.

Yes. There was one. Some irrational recognition. Something that transcended time or felt like it should.
The Brittana scene was just so organic and adorable. I seriously replayed that tiny 3 second scene over and over again. The way Naya sung that part is so emotional and bring me to tears.
I’ve replayed it a thousend times and the look santana gives brittany is just so real. U can just feel the love between them. Almost looks like they were in love irl too🥰

indeed, i had a fight with my gf because of how insensitive she is regarding her death. Did i overreacted when i cried a lot when i heard the news? Imo its valid, since i grew up watching glee and my top fave is Santana & Brittany

actually Samcedes was also an endgame in the script but their scene got cut so we couldn’t see them being an endgame

santanas scene when she smiles at brittany always makes me cry, they were the best couple imo
Naya was the best of all of them, imo. They're all great singers, but Naya lives the song as well as singing it. Plus, she was a more gifted actor than most on glee. She had a subtle, non verbal acting gear that many of her castmates lacked.
Yeah the subtlety is lost entirely on Rachel. But idk if that's intentional or not.
I agree. I went back and watched the first three seasons of Glee recently and was struck by just how good Naya was. Best actor and singer on the show, hands down.
She is among the most talented performers in the history of American entertainment.

I think the picnic scene is more like the moment she realized she was into him. Because it wasn't something like first sight, like Rachel with Finn or Santana with Brittany. It was at an Asian Camp. Like Mercedes watching Sam from across the football field. That wasn't the first time they saw each other but it could be the time she realized she had feelings for him or that sort of. You know?

Actually the first time they met was on S1 when Mike joins the Glee Club with Puck and Matt, but they practically did not interact beyond some performances where they danced together and all that.
@@panwithawa7014 Right, like it was implied that Brittany and Mike were a couple then, and so they wouldn't be looking at one another that way in S1. That was before they all became main characters and people started shipping Brittana after the Brittany slip admitting that she and Santana have sex with each other.
This verson of this beautiful song is outstanding. As a guy in his 80's who has had 2 wives die, this song has extra meaning. After all these years, I can tell you when I first saw my loves and what they were wearing as if it was yesterday instead of 58 and 42 years ago.

My mother bought Roberta Flack's album in the early '70's when she popularized this song. I was just a little kid, but I loved listening to this song. So sweet. I grew up to be a heavy metal headbanger, played bass in a rock band, but unlike most guys I knew, I could still appreciate a beautifully sung tune like this. I love my Mom for exposing me to true beauty in music.......
I came upon this video after watching Paul Potts do the Italian version and just kept clicking on other videos for this song. My daughter was a big fan of Glee and I watched it with her. I didn’t realize Naya had passed away last year in July. Another casualty of “2020, The Year of Crapola”
