I don't know what Michael B B was taking about. I think that he thought that he was on the history channel. However, I know that Obed was killin it. I am new to these artists.
@@epp.5593 looking again, i think it was some kind of guilt complex speaking. He seems not to know how to check if anyone replied to his comment... or maybe just likes sounding obscure and maybe erudite without any challenge. Fun having conversations over periods of years - so different! I'll celebrate by playing the song again. Oh... what the...? All these musicians are black. NOW I'm really confused. They're sure good at this deconstruction stuff too. I just noticed, too, this somehow didn't get onto my giant playlist. Thanks for replying so I'd notice! Cheers
I understand both the historical context and cultural necessity of murdering the popular song. Black artists were being held captive by the music industry that took possession of their music and its commercial potential. Yet, these same "weak" Western forms spawned jazz as we knew it then, and continues to inspire it now. I believe that the jazz avant-garde, with or w/o "deconstruction" is firmly linked to the white academic world of abstraction in art. Deconstruction is NOT a black thing.
One of the hardest vids on the whole internet!
I be darn, Obed, you killed it. That bass player is awesome. I see your Orrin Evans you're one of the King of keys.
The best version of this tune in my opinion. The closing interplay led by Obed is beyond legendary
