The round head craftsman was manufactured by K-D tools and sold to craftsman really nice and tough little ratchet good review I subscribed 30 seconds into this video didn't take long for me to like the content great job
At 2:56 you mention that S-K is replacing the round-head ratchets with the new tear-drop-head ratchets. I don't believe that is the case. I think Ideal Industries has come out with the new style ratchet to bring the S-K brand in line with other manufacturers by offering one, but I can't see S-K eliminating the round-head design. I am watching this video in January 2021 and think they will be making the model 95170 ratchet until the end of time.
With Stanley Proto owning Craftsman I doubt if Western Forge or Ideal is making anything for Craftsman. Alloy Artifacts is a great source of factual information about manufacturers and retailers/dealers of tools. SK has always made great sockets and wrenches but compared to other tool companies was always small and underfunded.
This is an old vid I know, anyone know why SK stopped making the switch on this ratchet in green? - yeah in know they’re sold to a China company now but was hoping to find one with a green switch before that.
SK is the original round head (single bar reversing switch). They invented it in 1933 and patented it in 1934. Their patent expired & others copied. Their round head is basically unchanged today other than changes in tooth count and anvil / mechanism protective finish.
koskey06 I like the old Williams round heads better than the SK and I own both The Wiliams heads are a lot smaller and I have never broken one in the many years I have had them. Nice smooth action, too.
I disagree about who made the 3 blade knob round head with the button head screw in the center. Armstrong/Danaher made them for Sears The used to brag about being a Sears partner on their web site. They made torque wrenches for everybody. My old Danaher/ Husky has the 3 bladed knob. In fact they made them for SK. I believe the SKs came with the SK 2 blade ratchet head installed. I have read other threads blasting Danaher for the poor performance of the 3 blade head. I have had no trouble but how much use does a ratchet head get on a torque wrench? Even though Apex shut down Armstrong, the site is still up and selling tools. The 3/8" ratchet clearly has the 3 blade knob. Please take a look. SK/Facom sild the regular 2 blade round head. I know Sears sold some SK. It might have been mostly wrenches.
Jeffrey Deutsch SK made sockets for Craftsman for a while, I believe as late as 2000. You’ll occasionally come across a particularly shiny NOS Craftsman with protective frosting on the interior. That’s an SK. They also made the Craftsman Professional high polish XL combo wrenches, and they still offer the Craftsman Pro screwdrivers but with black and green handles (made by sister co Western Forge). SK calls them “cushion grip”.
Great review, how is the sk rachet mechanism holding up
BTW, every round head is not secretly made by SK. They were very common, in the past. Almost everybody made one.

It would be more fair to compare it to snap-on, Mac or Matco. Sears are good tools but not in the same league.

I would like to see the pawl mechanism

I bought my LP90s prior to S•K being bought by GreatStar. The selectors are all unfinished aluminum color.
@@andrewarmitage168 thanks 👍

I love a good round head ratchet. They just seem stronger.

I think you need some made in USA scissors.
Yes I do!
L for lefty loosy and R for Righty tighty.
got that proto kinda look to it.
True!
That SK sure looks bent.
Pretty sure that's the wide angle lens distorting everything at the bottom. Look when he moves it to the center of the frame it's straight.
I love SK tools but man this is a bad review. 2 garbage cheap ratchets next to a professional ratchet.
This is the most garbage review.
