I struggled with this question for a long time. The preposition you choose depends on the subject. In “mung Pakistani yu”, subject is “mung”. That is why we use “yu”. In the second sentence, “mung” is the object - “nawakhta” is the subject. Third person masculine preposition is “dy”. Prepositions are used for the subject not object.

That I what I used to think. After trying many resources, I stumbled into Bangash Sahib’s channel. Then I realized it is easy to learn Pashto from Urdu rather than English. There is striking resemblance of Pashto with Urdu (and some Persian).
I went back and downloaded all the lessons, and started with lesson 1. A piece of advice, learn the Pashto alphabet. It makes learning easier. And stick with Bangash Sahib. He is the best teacher ever.
