I found Morphine literally now today, in 2020, after watching certain lifelong idol Les Claypool of Primus tell about his old microphone he is using on stage, which is of Sandman's old gear. 💙💚💛💜
I bought their album "Yes" back in the 90's (along with Tom Waits Beautiful Maladies) and it blew my mind. I loved it, but it DIDN'T result in me buying up all of their albums, as I was discovering a lot of music at the time. The great thing about that is, 25 years later...all these are NEW Morphine songs to me. So damn good!👍
Sandman is a great. His creative and progressive bass idea was as genius as the bands music. And he’s one of the best song writers in my opinion. Great lyrics great poetry spoken word art and great groove jammin
I am an advocate of Morphine. We need to get one of their Iconic songs front and centre in a big Holly Wood block buster film. I have a tiny influence but looking for some one to get that done. (Netflix, Amazon and the rest count)
David Delamancha My son was also raised on Morphine, he's had a sax for a few years and for his 21st bday, he wanted a bass so I picked him up an acoustic / electric bass to learn on... Great band, dearly missed.
I made that bass, but with a fender P Bass, sounds amazing. If you're a bassist and you have a cheap old bass, I highly recommend converting it into a two string after you replace it. The Bass is an amazing instrument that can be very flexible with some clever thought.
Do you have any suggestions how to make it two stringed? As far as I know Mark used second and third lowest strings (he got rid of E and G, right?). Also, how to adjust the remaining strings, meaning how high/low they should be to properly slide through?
@@SinanlahurI had to replace one with a steel string, I couldn’t figure out how he got them so stretched out otherwise. Also, I’m pretty sure he had the strings raised up really high
I'm glad I got to see them play before Sandman passed on. Easily one of The Best Shows I've seen, and I have seen a lot of shows in my life time. Listening to Morphine now is kind of bittersweet...
I move slow underwater crisp like a waterfall I know my way around Everybody knows me I grew up in this town I got one million two million I can't remember how many million millions And I'm exactly where I want to be right now Ah yea Mm mm I got a call back from the wishing well Ah yea all right I got a call back from the wishing well I don't even have to shoot I don't even have to aim I just smile deal me in I got one million two million yea I can't remember how many million millions I'll tell ya I'm exactly where I want to be right now All right Ok I got a call back from the wishing well oh I move smooth underwater crisp like a waterfall Smooth underwater I know my way around See I got one million two million I can't remember how many million millions And I'm exactly where I want to be right now All right (x2) I got a call back from the wishing well Oh yea all right I got a call back from the wishing well
My first year in DC Morphine played the 930 club the same week as Stabbing Westward. I've since seen Stabbing Westward like 4x total and never did get to see Morphine live. One of my biggest regrets...
As if Morphine wasn't amazing enough with Mark Sandman, one of the greatest bass players ever... This other guy plays TWO saxophones at the same time?! What??
Anybody know what kind of bass he used and the tuning. Chris Bellew used a similar tuning with the E and D strings. it looks like mark used the A and D strings.
Took a while to find it but it's: Morphine Potion CD Label: Rykodisc Released: Sep 1997 Tracks: Potion, Kerouac, Eleven O'Clock (Hi-N-Dry Version), Virgin Bride, Anita
Five studio albums. Zero bad songs. So unique yet so catchy.
Not sure about the zero bad songs but when they hit, they fucking hit
I just found out Billy died from cancer 2 days ago, at 65. Glad they got their time to shine.
Dana is bloody underrated jazzman.
These guys were really something special.
and many missed them because they did not receive airtime on the radio-
The best.
Saw em once and were big time into em which was fun to be most enthused at the time. 95 dallas
Only now finding this band...unbelievable band..
BEAUTIFUL BEAUTIFUL Fantastic band & sax ❤🎷🎤💯🥁
I just recently started listening to Morphine. What a great band!
I found Morphine literally now today, in 2020, after watching certain lifelong idol Les Claypool of Primus tell about his old microphone he is using on stage, which is of Sandman's old gear. 💙💚💛💜
Welcome to Morphine. Better late than never. Killer stuff.
I realize how fortuante I was to have the gift of being able to see this band live
Mark sure ate his Wheaties before this performance. I've never seen him this animated
Mark had the best energy when he got going. The 2 Meter Sessions were pretty animated too, just finished watching that
It’s business and pleasure. Gotta turn on esp for tv and exposure. Showman ship
learned of this band in 1995 loved their style ever since hard to pick a favorite song they have so many good ones
Best bass player on earth
hyper2focus bien
More with less.
The uniqueness of his playing still blows me away. RIP.
One of the best for sure!
One of the best for sure!
Fuckin brilliant band. Great footage here, thanks!

One of the best trios of any genre ever!
this live early to bed is one of the sickest bass riffs ive heard in a while
All these years later, it’s still near the top. Killer uniqueness.
Sandman is a great. His creative and progressive bass idea was as genius as the bands music. And he’s one of the best song writers in my opinion. Great lyrics great poetry spoken word art and great groove jammin
Got turned onto them when the yes album came out. I probably miss this band more than any other.
It's hard to believe that he had less than 2 years left to live after this performance.
:'(
This live version of "Early To Bed" is cooler than the album version.
the one note song.
disagree...Dana's playing is better on Baritone Sax than tenor...and the bass beat is better on the studio version
ua-cam.com/video/mB1hP1nvBh8/v-deo.html
100%. This version really f*cking moves the right way, man. Dana's sax is stellar.
Agree. The recorded version gets a little stale with its one-note bass riff.
When your own voice was the voice effect. These guys were a blessing in my life.
I am an advocate of Morphine. We need to get one of their Iconic songs front and centre in a big Holly Wood block buster film. I have a tiny influence but looking for some one to get that done. (Netflix, Amazon and the rest count)
They are in a couple movies
This is 🔥 thanks for uploading. In my wildest dreams Mark comes back 💖 wishes
dana preforms with the double sax , cool to see him play the tenor and the baritone at the same time
Presumably an homage to Rahsaan Roland Kirk
thanks for posting this! both of my sons are really into Morphine. I'd like to think that's why my 12 yr old has played sax
David Delamancha My son was also raised on Morphine, he's had a sax for a few years and for his 21st bday, he wanted a bass so I picked him up an acoustic / electric bass to learn on... Great band, dearly missed.

@@SinanlahurI had to replace one with a steel string, I couldn’t figure out how he got them so stretched out otherwise. Also, I’m pretty sure he had the strings raised up really high
@@Sinanlahur He kept the two middle strings the A and the D, sometimes retuned down to a G and a C.
I just made one out of a J bass, a cheap $60 Glarry brand.
Aguante Morphine
OMG,....I've always said, you should only listen to Morphine after the sun's gone down...this is great, thanks.
Mark you are one of the worlds best bass players! Very missed! Luckily I got to see them live three times.

What??

The King of Cool
Saw Treat Her Right at CBGB'S one night .
Pretty sure I still have the record I brought home .
Everyone here should check out Mark Sandman's first band, Treat Her Right. Billy Conway plays drums too
Dana playing the tenor ❤
It is LIKE SWIMMING.
The healthier route to access the coveted Opiate Warmth Experience.
RIP Sandman.

First lines gave birth to about 6 theme songs for television series…Breaking Bad at the front
OOOooooh yeaahhh
Anyone catch how Dana came in for the save on Wishing Well?
less is more
Anybody know what kind of bass he used and the tuning. Chris Bellew used a similar tuning with the E and D strings. it looks like mark used the A and D strings.
Its a Premier, the tuning changed alot, but mostly A and D, Chris was Mark Sandman's roommate when they where younger
They both played music together, too; there's at least one song they released together.
Mark hombre de arena
I stopped getting up as early as a baker… a huh.
Hey Kids, a Two String Bass . . . is a Baritone Guitar. . . . . . Cool. . . .
shame it was the last album with him alive
funky
That guy is like a Leonard Cohen on morphine.
What's that tour album mentioned at 4:59?
Took a while to find it but it's:
Morphine Potion CD
Label: Rykodisc
Released: Sep 1997
