      I will miss Cavill... but I wanna give Hemsworth the benefit of the doubt. I know he doesn't have the same background knowledge Henry brought to the role, but I hope he digs in and gives it his absolute best shot... like training with swords by now... with everything, that's what makes Henry's Geralt so believable.

      The cute / soap opera moments were needed for what's to come... Calm before the storm.
      The ice skating scene will have a callback, btw.
      And I think Liam will be fine, it's the change mid-show that is weird. The show is respecting the source material in these first 5 episodes, at least.

    • @fantasywind3923
      @fantasywind3923 Рік тому +4

      Well to me the entire plot of her losing her magic in season 2 was completely pointless (in any way this subplot was actually stolen from another character....Ciri, she is losing magic at the end of Time of Contempt when she lands on Korath desert). More interesting would be if they followed with what the books said happened to Yennefer after Sodden battle...that she lost her eyesight (and it took time to magically cure it so she could see again, this type of 'disability' story, being blind for a while, may have been actually more interesting).
      "Damn it, I’m Triss Merigold, the Fourteenth One Killed at Sodden. There are fourteen graves at the foot of the obelisk on the Hill, but only thirteen bodies. You’re amazed such a mistake could have been made? Most of the corpses were in hard-to- recognise pieces - no one identified them. The living were hard to account for, too. Of those who had known me well, Yennefer was the only one to survive, and Yennefer was blind."

      @@JosephHandibode what's funny is that in some way it's true :) that part on 'hating powerful females' haha despite no matter how Hissrich claims to be feminist hehe she really depowered the character, Yennefer is also made a bit of an annoying whiny teenager at moments with compulsive swearing haha :), jokes aside, Yennefer is in book after battle of Sodden a member of the Council of sorcerers so she basically got promoted to the leadership position among the Sorcerer Brotherhood, while the show makes her a fugitive (earlier than intended anyway):
      "'This is the whole Council? I thought it was bigger than that.'
      'The Chapter has five members and the Council likewise. Philippa Eilhart is also in the Council.'
      'There's still one person missing,' he shook his head and Triss giggled.
      'You didn't tell him? You really don't know, Geralt?'
      'About what?'
      'Yennefer's a member of the Council. Since the battle of Sodden. You didn't want to brag, my dear?' "
      So instead of making Yennefer influential in the mage politics they preferred the whole 'Yennefer depowered' :).

    This episode is very fast paced and I think that’s because season 2 deviated so far from the book it was supposed to be based on. So this episode kind of had to get everyone where they needed to be for the book this season is supposed to be based on. I haven’t watched all 5 episodes yet but from what I’ve seen it feels more faithful to the source material than season 2.

      @FC-ho9hw Рік тому +1

      @@heathjones_ Hey, that's okay. It's wasn't a dig at you. I was just stating the facts, because I've seen it already. I read the books and played the games multiple times. There are good adaptations that get the characters, places, lore and overall atmosphere right and there are those that do not. This is not a good adaptation, because it just doesn't feel like the Witcher world and with what they've done with its characters, lore and an actual plot, which it's supposedly based on... The games did get that right (part of it was the fact that it was an actual Polish studio that made those games), but it all really just depends on people that are making it and if they want to stay true to the spirit of what they are making, if it isn't their original work. I can stomach some changes, if they are done right... Like the Lord of the Rings (the movies, not the show) or Harry Potter movies... Even with those there are some issues, but there is also a very apparent respect for the source material... Its characters, lore, etc. All would be at least kinda okay, if they just respected what they're actually trying to adapt. And when the main star of your show, who is also a fan, leaves midway through (there are interviews with him, where he explains what this all means to him), that tells all actual fans really all they need to know. Just saying...

    Henry really is the perfect geralt and it still doesn’t feel real that he’s actually leaving, but being a fan of the source material i will give liam hemsworth a chance. It seems as though so many people are just Henry Cavill fans and not Witcher fans. I love this world and it’s characters and if they don’t drastically change geralts character I am fine with the recasting since it was cavills choice to back out and he wasn’t blatantly fired. At least it wasn’t as disrespectful as DC was to Henry where they basically promised him he’d return and then outright firing him. Just as long as Geralt is still geralt then I am ok with Liam. At least Yen, Ciri and Jaskier are sticking around who are also wonderful castings. I really like season 3 so far and I do really wanna see where this story is going regardless of who is playing geralt. I also really am looking forward to Toussaint and Regis, which where absolutely fantastic in the blood and wine dlc for Witcher 3 and I know that Regis and Toussaint do eventually make an appearance in the books.

      Nobody shouts, "Long live Radovid", thought the prince covered by the hierarch's fat ass. No one even looks at me. No one is screaming in honour of my mother. No one remembers my
      poor father. Even today, at a day of triumph, which he so richly deserved. After all, that's why he was murdered.
      He felt a gaze on his neck. Delicate like someone he did not know - or knew, but only in his dreams. Something that was soft like a brush of a woman's warm lips. He turned his head.
      He discovered the dark unfathomable eyes of Philippa Eilhart fixed on him.
      Wait, thought the prince, looking away. Just wait.
      No one could predict or guess then that this boy of thirteen years, which at that time was a person without any relevance in a country ruled by the Regency Council and by Dijkstra,
      would become king. A king who, after he paid all the insults that had been given to his mother and him, would go down in history with the name Radovid the Stern. "
      so obviously the Radovid in the netflix show cannot even be the same character haha :). The show as far as an adaptation of books go is not particularly faithful :) it certainly has moments when it tries to but usually minor ones the real big pieces of the book plot are usually butchered.

      In Witcher 3 he is absolutely ruthless and responsible for the massacre of elves and mages alike. He is worse than Emyhr in some aspects, but we won’t get there yet since he’s not king until the time of the games and who knows if the show will get there.

    The good part of this show is that they have some really great character moments. But the writing is a bit all over the place. Despite what parts are loyal or not to the source there are so many basic writing mistakes. In the end I enjoyed the show but having read the books it’s frustrating to think about how much better it could be.

    I'm not a fan of this season so far (have watched 3 episodes so far). I do think the dialogue is so much more stilted, and some of the villains are hamming it up SO much. I do love Geralt and Yennefer, and I'm looking forward to Ciri's progression, but you guys hit the nail on the head when you mentioned soap operas. That was my overall impression as well. Fingers crossed that it picks up more later.

    I binged all 5 eps last night: I totally agree w/how off-setting this first ep was for me when I started watching it when the series dropped late last month 😳 At that time, I checked out right before they went to the Festival w/the Maze b/c the pace was oddly too slow for me 😮 With Part 2 of S3 dropping at the end of this month, I decided I better try watching again so I won't be behind if it's good: Glad I did 😀 The payoff by the end of Ep 5 (where Part 1 ends) was totally worth it (based on how I felt initially watching Ep1) and more Witcher-like for me 👌🏾 Can't wait to see how this all ends for Geralt/Henry!!!

But then i realized ep 1 felt like the span of 3 episodes usually for the witcher, and in doing so made the Eleves finding Ciri and Riance finding Ciri not as impactful or tension filled as it should have been.

    I always enjoy your reactions, but this one felt like you were hate watching the episode based on the same repetitive negative options of the show. It really seems to cloud your general objective view of watching the episode.
    I mean, why do people who haven't read the book hating on the show for not being book accurate?
    Common hater options:
    - Henry Cavill is the only good thing about the show( umm what about the other REALLY good actors that ALWAYS kill their scenes)
    - Henry left because they strayed too much from the books, therefore this whole season is completely wrong and Henry must just be going through the motions.
    - And I know people probably have a source saying Henry left because of creative differences, but has he actually been quoted saying specifically or with detail on what those creative difference were?
    (Sorry for the rant and I love you guys!!😅)

    • @ReelRejects
      @ReelRejects  Рік тому +1

      It’s all good - for us, it’s not a matter of “not being book-accurate,” because obviously we don’t have that frame of reference. But I do think you can sense a difference between each of the seasons in how they pace themselves & present dialogue. And here, at least to us, it felt written & paced more like a modern movie or show, clipping along & setting up plot points, rather than something wanting to invoke that sort of literary epic sensibility.
      Second episode definitely played better for us, so hoping the rest of the season is quality!

      Yeah...if they followed more closely the books the show would have potential to be even better than Game of Thrones in it's best years! Simply put all the netflix team needed to do was trust the strength of the source material, work up the worldbuilding and depict the witcher world as accurately as possible, stop with doing their own fanfction as clearly they are not skilled enough to write it and focus on the plot at hand.

    The vibe seems off after the first episode. Clothing and sets look more akin to xena warrior princess than the raw and lived in world of season 1 and 2. It pulls me right out when all the characters look super clean and dolled up. They are on the run, not at a resort. The episode was for me the weakest so far. Dialogue seems clunky, and pacing was so odd. The main part for me was that the cinematography was soooo weak comparatively. My expectations are low after watching this. It feels more like blood Origins than witcher season 1 and 2

  • @coldfire22
    @coldfire22 Рік тому +1

    I liked it.. it was ok. 3/5. I think the "Dear Friend" stuff was a bit over done. It worked FAR better in the books, the way they used it here was weird.
    The action was awesome. This shows violence and choreography is top notch.
    Episode 5 was probably my favorite because it felt pretty much like the scene from the books it is based on. Funny how things that are more accurate to the books wind up being better. If only the writers would realize that.
    I am not a fan of what they did with Jaskier this season. It just doesn't make sense and is thrown in there simply for the sake of being in it. Same crap they did in that god awful Blood Origins. Why change characters and throw crap like that in? The odd thing is, the books are very inclusive already. Just keep things as they are in the books. There is no need to change things. Unless they are totally skipping that part of the books. Not sure why they would, but who knows.
    I'm hoping for Leo Bonhart next season! That will be awesome!
