  • When Reverend Mike Turner embarked on a 9-day, 60 miles, solo hike deep into the wilderness of Wyoming Wind River Range, he didn't expect to end up isolated, lost and fearing for his life.
    Fight to Survive tells the inspiring true stories of outdoorsmen who have faced down death in the wilderness and lived to tell their story. Adventurer, author and survivor Craig DeMartino kicks off the series with his own story.

      I went hiking in Montana last year. Was on a trail by myself. Mtn lions, bears. I never saw either but when I got seven miles in the mountain, I got an eerie feeling. I could not shake it. I turned around. I was by myself this entire time, with a tiny dog. I did not have bear spray or a gun. I think I was a bit foolish. I did a hike once in Alaska, another fourteen miler round trip. Had my other tiny dog with me. I had peace in my heart about doing that one, meaning I felt like God told me all would be okay if I went, and it was. Being led by the Spirit is key. But we all die.

    I never comment on these public forums but I have to in this case. I am an avid and experienced SOLO backpacker and outdoorsman. I CHOOSE to go alone. I acknowledge and fully accept the risk. Any accident that befalls me is my responsibility. I am at peace with my life as it is and accept that my final destiny is death. I do not fear it. I really irritates me that so many people are spouting their condemning comments that Mike nor anyone should ever hike alone. That is YOUR choice just as it was Mike's or my choice to go it alone. It is your opinion and you are entitled to it. You are not entitled to berate Mike or anyone for their own personal choices. Mike died in a placed he loved. Looking out over beautiful scenery, with fresh air and sounds and smells of nature. I believe if he had to choose where he was going do pass into the afterlife he would have chosen a spot just like that. Alone. His choice.

    • @netanyah613

      I'm sure it would've been his real choice to be with his family again, so even going out alone one shouldn't deviate from planned itineraries where search teams know to search by. One also should avoid areas of lose boulders and go to more stable ones, and take a cell or satellite phone and extra charged battery and battery charger. I knew a guy who set out on a Native Indian solo journey (he wasn't Indian but did Shaman practices). His car was found but his body never was. He stopped replying to texts on the first day.

    In many ways, this is one of the most messed up true stories I've ever heard.
    There seemed to be a concatenation of circumstances, almost like a cosmic conspiracy, to get Mike trapped all alone in order to experience an agonising trial of faith, resulting in a slow painful deterioration from starvation, dehydration, hypothermia and, ultimately, death.
    What was the point of the hope created by the absence of physical injury, the leg entrapment within corresponding crevices in both boulders, the nearby lake, Andy's eventual contact with people, and Mike's discovery by the potential rescuer. That none of these would provide any mitigation for Mike seemed to be the worst possible form of cosmic mockery and injustice.
    So many questions ... ❓️❓️❓️

  • @SomeBuddy777
    @SomeBuddy777 3 роки тому +3

    I'll tell you, that FINAL ENDING was not what I had anticipated. I thought Mike was unconscious, and the hiker just thought that he was dead when he covered him up, and the rescue team was just over the mountain. SHOCKER! But quite a spiritual one, also. Thank you for sharing this real life/real death story. Going to have to sit and reflect on this a while.

      @thereisnoother1502 3 роки тому +2

      I have had some bad things happen to me as a Christian. Don't understand it all. But we all die, and God took this man home. To me this story is a testimony of his trust in God. He may have suffered but I am sure he felt God's presence with him. Sin has a cost. It is death. If you're saved and following Jesus, you get to bypass the second death, though. Hallelujah. Think about it, many believers die from cancer or other diseases. They suffer. But God is with them through it all. He is good. Instead of questioning if anything exists at all, be smart. Lift your eyes and voice to God and ask Him if He's real. Ask Him directly to reveal Himself to you. Question Him. He will answer. All who seek find.

      Regarding your comment your opinion & I respect it however you said you question if anything exists at all because he was not rescued well there are many examples of people not being found alive like the hiker John Donovan. There are also many cases of people found alive so miracles do happen unfortunately they carnt for everyone. It is my belief when people die no matter the why,how or where they have to take accountability for there own actions.

      @@villain1409 I don't know why God didn't allow for this man to survive this terrible thing, but I know that if there is a God who made the vastness of everything, this means that we have the perspective of ants in comparison, so maybe there are things we can't understand. This is what I do know: the Christian message tells us that God was right there with him in his darkest hour. Suffering, death and injustice are a fact of life which we might as well get used to. You can go through it alone without hope or purpose to the suffering or you can go through it accompanied, we're given total freedom to choose. When Jesus died on the cross, people also said "where's your God now?" but God's purpose was higher than just saving his life. Part of the purpose was to share our suffering and be right there with us in our own suffering. God never said that bad things won't happen to us. The point is how we respond to them.

    The comments for this channel are normally irritatingly full of ‘praise Jesus for the power of prayer’ and ‘his faith saved him’. The power of prayer didn’t do much here. Anyone would think it was a load of balls.

      Because man has freewill. Lucifer controls the earth. God doesn't do or let bad things happen to people. Stop blaming God for man's own doings.

      The wages of sin is death. “For ALL have sinned, and come short of the Glory of God”. Because of sin, we die, but we will have eternal life where there is no sin, or suffering or death IF we accept the sin sacrifice of Jesus Christ, who died for all of our sins. He paid the price for all our sins so we could go free. All we have to do is accept the free gift. Every single one of us will die and many will die suffering, because of sin. That is not God’s fault. He created us to have free will and to choose, and mankind chose sin. God created redemption in His son. The pastor knew all of this and that is how he was able to reconcile his predicament, because we are all in the same predicament, in varying ways.

    Nobody should solo hike these days. So sad for his family. The Bible says that our Heavenly Father will bring the dead back to life. (John 5:28) He never meant for us to die, when He created us. Soon He will restore the earth, rid it of the wicked, and His people will live young and happy with no suffering, no death, permanently! (Psalm 37: 10, 11) (Revelation 21:4)
