- My disappointing tour of The White House (but that's OK). What is on your Washington DC bucket list? The White House is a common one but I am doing an honest perspective. There is so much to see in DC that I am not sure I would recommend soemone to wait 1 hour and try to find bag storage to visit this place.

Complaining about leaving your purse outside and going through three layers of security to get into the White House is PEAK American entitlement.

Phones are tools boomer lol. She literally explains, pretty much on her phone because there isn't any interactive displays/no tour guide. So yeah probably on the phone is better

I visited the George W White House. I asked the security guard if all the windows are bullet proof. He asked me, “what do you think?” I told him I thought they were. Then my wife told me to stop talking and asking questions like that before we get kicked out! 😬I was pretty quiet the rest of the time. Enjoyed it very much!!

What a whiner. Oh no, you had to go through security. You got an opportunity to visit a great place with an amazing history.
Well what did you actually expect to see? If you hadn't viewed the whole visit through your phone, something of your visit might have trickled into your brain.
One benefit of the White House tours now is that you’re allowed to take photos with your phone. This wasn’t always the case. One thing that tends to disappoint people though is that the Oval Office is not part of the regular tour. To see that, you have to know someone who works there.
I'd assume none of the west wing is open to tour. Probably because it's mildly involved with operating some little country in North America.
@@theamaturepro I’m not sure what it’s like now, but 25 yers ago, the best bet for catching a glimpse of the West Wing was to peek in the windows during the grounds and gardens tour that was offered twice a year. As you said, it’s a working office space, so outside access to it is quite limited.
Plus it's actually located over in tge West Wing, which is a totally seperate building, in its own right.
Well I mean what did you expect? Of course they're not gonna let you run around gleefully through the most important person's house.
I would expect a guide because they don’t want people running all over the White House

It’s a working headquarters of our government, It’s not a museum. If it was such a thing on your bucket list, why would you not do research ahead of time? If you don’t know the significance of all the rooms you showed that’s on you.
I went on a White House tour at Christmas time in 1998. It was beautifully decorated for the holidays and the guides gave us the history of many of the rooms. Perhaps you weren’t paying attention.

I had no idea that it was free. That's actually pretty freaking awesome! Considering all the ways our money is taken by the government, I never would have guessed they still stood true to the concept of it being "The People's House". That's great
I mean, if you don't like the fact that there's 3 levels of security you could always leave. Part of me feels like she only wanted to visit the white house in order to say she visited the white house.

I took the Congressional Guided Tour. I got tickets from my Congressman. If they still offer that,it is better than the public tour.

I toured the White House in 2000. It was wonderful! And I had my two small children with me!

I went on a tour in this aguest and i loved it. I saw everything you did and to be honest it’s kinda worth it waiting in the heat, but when i went it was not hot it was cold, so you were waiting in the cold.

When I was a kid in the 1980's, my family went to Washington D.C. and we waited a couple of hours at the Ellipse area to obtain free tickets for a White House tour. As I remember, we had a tour guide who actually took us through and gave us information about each room we were taken to. I guess times have definitely changed!

I went on a While House tour in 1995. I learned later that there was a “behind the scenes “ tour that had to be approved by your State Senator before hand. I would have loved that tour😢. BUT! I would like to see the standard visitor tour, without being rushed through
The tour was awesome I was disappointed Joe didn't offer me any cookies 😢 The secret Service had some very handsome men 😊

There was a time in history where it was called The People's White House, and numerous times when a storm came in D.C. people would drive their cars under the car port for protection. Whatever happened to the Good 0l days?

@@None-ef6nf In my opinion, what happened, well over the course of years, more Presidents were concerned about their safety, and probably people started taking advantage of the situation. The White House does belong to The Citizens of The United States of America, We had The Best Sovereign Country ever in History. Just throwing this out, government got to big, ruining the lives of Americans. I do not think that this government does not care about Us at all. We are nothing but a tax slave to the system. And that is really sad to think this.
When I went to D.C. all I wanted was a hot dog but we did see the memorials and museums

West Wing tour is way better, saw the Oval Office (no phones allowed) last Wednesday it’s so surreal. But the thing is West Wing tour is only booked if you know somebody from inside

Fun Fact about The White House, the only thing thats still original from when it was built is the outer shell of the building. By 1948, the original interior was falling apart and on the verge of collapse. President Harry Truman had the White House completely gutted, and the shell of the building was (mostly) untouched. It was a completely new building inside. So no room in the house is really historical anymore. A good example of that would be Lincoln's room. Every room was built in the early 50s.

Sounds like a public tour would be more welcoming and organized, no wonder you'd feel disappointed without a guide 😵💫
I wouldn't expect the white house to be like a museum or open to public and all ages but if its like this it might be best to keep it closed off for tours. No doubt recent events like covid and jan 6 have made things like this less fun, maybe it'll be better in the future.
I hope you get to make another trip there and have a better time there, or maybe bring a friend along for the ride too lol. Thanks for sharing your experience with us though! 😁💖
