Every time it played, it cut short my dreams and woke me to prepare to walk 7KM bare foot to school with a 1 string bag running from th hind of my neck to the back

    Artist: Maroon Commandos
    Song: Amka Kumekucha
    Language: Kiswahili
    uvivu ni adui mkubwa
    wa ujenzi wa taifa
    kwani nicho kiini hasa
    kisababishacho njaa
    ewe ndugu yangu wee
    amka kumekucha
    kamata jembe na panga
    twende shamba
    hata wewe mwanangu
    amka kumekucha
    kwani hizi ndizo saa
    za kwenda shule
    hata wewe Karani
    amka kumekucha
    kwani hizi ndizo saa
    za kwenda kazi
    uvivu ni adui mkubwa
    wa ujenzi wa taifa
    kwani nicho kiini hasa
    kisababishacho njaa
    ewe ndugu yangu wee
    amka kumekucha
    kamata jembe na panga
    twende shamba
    hata wewe mwanangu
    amka kumekucha
    kwani hizi ndizo saa

    uvivu ndio adui
    wa ujenzi wa taifa
    jiepushe na uvivu
    tujenge taifa
    ndugu yangu kumekucha
    amka twende shamba
    jiepushe na uvivu
    tujenge taifa
    mwanamke kumekucha
    amka uende shule
    elimu ndio msingi
    wa maendeleo
    Karani kumekucha

My father never woke us up by calling us names. Instead he would put full volume of this song in our room. Whenever we heard it, we all would all wake
