The thing that has surprised me so much after watching your videos is just how big of a part manure management is in what you do. This spring has really shown that. First the pond was full probably a little sooner than you would have liked it to be. Then the troubles you had cleaning the corrals. Now you are back at hauling liquid and you are stopped by a pump in the barn. It really does dictate what you have to be doing at any given time. All the while everything else needs to happen in tandem. You really do provide good insight as to what goes on in an operation like yours.👍
@@giles-df9yu No I have never lived on a farm but my Dad’s side are all farmers and my cousins ran a 2000 or 3000 thousand head feedlot at Strathmore Alberta, so you could say I grew up on the farms even though we lived in the city. My Dad worked for Case IH and I was down at the dealership as much as I could be. Four of my friends are farmers as well so I have helped out as much as I could when they needed it. I guess it is in my blood.🤔
Every person's job or skill set is so valuable to the operation. I was just thinking how valuable your mechanic is. But then thought every person's job is so necessary. Your family and hired help are a great team. I loved how in the last video you stood up for the person who hit the post with the spreader; saying what a valuable employee he is and that we all make costly mistakes from time to time.
Frustration in your voice with the situation with the manure pumps. Maybe using a pneumatic vacuum system to possibly suck the barn pit completely cleaned. I've used a lift like you're going to use in the Navy. Make sure the Hydraulics is all checked out. The one I used failed and the arm dropped and we came very close to death. Just make sure to follow all safety for the rigg. Tomorrow will be a better day
So much to do and so few tractors to do it.Seems each day you have to be quick on your feet and solve problems and you sure do it well. Gonna be nice to see you planting soon. Seems we ought to buy stock on the tire place that you buy from. Great video and thanks till next time.
Jon. Yes, it is very exciting seeing equipment prep for spring seeding dial-in. That step is very important, so you get max seed delivory. Best prepared delivers best haven't in the fall. Thank you for the walk along video with the many jobs that make a days work on the farm. Please take care. 👍
Jan for example the manure spreader. If you can't find tires that fit and when you do one its so costly , it's almost the same as 3 -4 tires. Couldn't you buy a size or 2 up or down if they were available and way cheaper. Don't know anything about tires but seems as long as they fit the rim? Thanks
Jan may have to put a bar across the low area of the brick wall. That manure pump in barn almost always gives you fits not working repair time again. Wow. You can’t keep straw away from liquid manure pits when sweeping floor’s. Need all updated on all machines . Someone must love heights not me get nose bleeds . What does your girl friend think about the farm work and does she like it?
Just a thought on your tractor shortage situation. Here in Ontario some farmer are able to secure unused tractors used for winter snow removal. They are secured on s short term lease. I wonder if this option might be more feasible than looking to add a unit to the fleet. The only challenge might be in securing a tractor with adequate HP. Keep up the good work.
I understand every dollar counts these days you should get a hold of an old tractor or bus motor and have Brent mount on a skid and modify it to run the manure pump. Would be convenient and less expensive than possibly burn out a tractor that’s needed for other chores.
Or replace the pump & tractor combination with a permanent electric pump for draining the pit.Could be a lower capacity (slower) pump, if you didn't have to use up one of the tractors when filling the manure hauler.
Thanks for another great informative video, and wow you folks are sure busy with everything going on at one time. I wish you all the best working around the problems.
Ive worked sand in cubicles here in the uk a lot of years, yes, the build up around a pump even with a propeller gets smaller and smaller over couple of yrs- the slight bit of straw etc a can just stop that pump as it hasnt anywhere else to go- not seeming a smart arse, but i commented when you extended the pack barn and scraped slurry down into the manure channel going to the pump, it wont work if theres any straw in it.
You can use the pressure washer to clear the sand in the pump area. A long extension on the wand to get to the bottom, it should break up any sand. I wouldn’t run the pump while blasting just to be safe.
Thank you, friend Jan, you are worthy of admiration because there have been one mechanical crisis after another, some of the trade's hazards will say. But handling the problems with your mettle, there are many of us who have to copy from you.🏆
Sounds like you may have to buy two more big tractor’s so you don’t have to wait for a tractor to pull or hook up things. Some of the smaller tractor’s don’t have the horse power and other tractor’s have. It maybe you’ll have to totally clean out the pit but that maybe pushing it. WOW , put a sign up saying no straw in pits.Your grains our set in a good spot and have the room to fill and empty easy. To high for me to be on lift. Looks like your getting set to plant for yo long that is awesome.
Keep us posted on the pump clean out. Hopefully you guys can figure it out or maybe already have it fixed by the time this was posted. I was wondering if you guys have thought of openning an access overhead door to that pit, so that you can drop the lagoon pump in there and quickly be able to clean out the pit when this happens again in the future. Good luck
Jan’ I would have love to have seen that cow jump that fence or that wall if only you had a camera mounted there you need a few of those small black mini cameras that advertise on these You Tube commercials that would be cool. Great video 🇺🇸🙏🇨🇦.
The drill also gets used in the fall to plant winter rye, but the tractor isn't used for anything else, but the drill. It don't have a PTO, and it's overkill for any of their other equipment that could be used with it.
I never looked before, but do you have fire suppression systems in place? We've heard so much about fires, especially in poultry farms. Love your videos and my son does too 😊
2:30, that is a massive beast. Btw, I'm a novice when it comes to farming but I have a question. Does the amount of wheels on a tractor mean that it can pull more weight? Depends on the horsepower as well but need more info on stuff like this. :)
👍👌❤️🇨🇦, Jan, having a portable vacuum tank would suck out that sand and is much easier than hand mucking it out, now I am spending your money, just a suggestion

@SaskDutchKid. Was kinda wondering when the farm was going to realize by adding all these acres you’re going to eventually be short of equipment to farm it and still get daily jobs done. Hopefully dad opens the check book and starts getting new equipment that doesn’t sit in the shop.
nice hairdo, Jan You and your team have an incredible amount of patience and fortitude. And you are an equally good big time dairyman and videographer. Thanks for taking time to share when you have so much on your shoulders. I tell you, many of your followers are Christians and pray for you and all that is going on this spring.
Thank you for letting us be part of your journey of your farming life. I just caught up with your videos (started a few weeks ago with a video of january 2023) Keep up the great content. En bedankt voor alles wat jij en je familie doen.
Alot of the to jobs you do suck but you do it anyways, it is how you where raised, it's in you. Thank you AGAIN for helping to feed the world. Say hi to the boss man. 👍
That just means that you need to put more weight on the front of the tractor or somehow figure out how to put more horsepower into the engine if that’s why you don’t use it on the feed wagon
Jan, I have a naive question. Your dairy farm spends an extraordinary amount of time and money preparing food for the dairy cows. Are there dairy farms that buy the food and bypass the work involved in growing it? Is it too expensive in doing so? What is the approximate percentage of costs devoted to preparing the food compared to the total costs?
Some farms are going to automated feeding with robots to save on labor costs. 10th Generation Dairyman's farm is in the process of that right now. They're currently having 3 new vertical silos built, and they hope to have the system fully operational shortly after this summer's corn harvest.
Yes, it belongs to them. They only use it for planting, once, or twice per year. Jan doesn't get a lot of footage of it, since their mechanic is the one doing the seeding.

I could do with farming livestock if it wasn’t for the constant flow of manure. I can’t stand the smell of sh1te 🤮

Hi there from New Mexico, USA
Good video brother from the imperial county California 🇺🇲🚜🚜
If you fashioned a "cake mixer" type of setup to go around the pump that might help with the issue. Would be an interesting project for your mechanic
Drill baby! Drill!!!

For lifting your barn pump you should make some adaptors to plug in to your aux hydraulics on your skid steer

2:40 Nice to see that blue Versatile - Built in Canada I think

One problem you will always have with the pully grain legs is the cable stretching. Its not an easy thing to fix though.
Good to see you yan sir and family

Good equiment is very importan for the farm from Puerto Rico
The drill looks cool
Nice video

I am so glad for you with this bumper crop. You deserve it. God bless! 3:41

That 4 wheel drive is what you should use on the tanker
It doesn’t have a pto

Does the big articulating tractor get used for anything other then the drill in the spring?

did you every think of industrial trash pump for your barn ? we use then to insure the pump infeed is blended to a point they wont plug the pump.

Not necessarily. It's more for weight distribution to reduce soil compaction. Which helps the crops grow better.
👍👌❤️🇨🇦, Jan, having a portable vacuum tank would suck out that sand and is much easier than hand mucking it out, now I am spending your money, just a suggestion

excellent!!
The head aches never stop but it will all get sorted out
Time to go visit your buddies new dealership and order up a nice new Fendt tractor!!😉😄 I know, I'm not the one making the payments. 😇😅😊
Have you ever looked into self propelled feed wagons? Will be a tractor less and easier to take feed of the big bunks
May be able to do a section repair on the face of that tire instead of having to replace it?
Again look into mono pumps for moving slurries and solids up to 80%
Ive been pn lifts that high. I always enjoyed heights and aerial lifts. I was a pipefitter for years.

Does that pump take a lot of power or why wouldn't the smaller tractor work on the pump?
With a never ending supply of liquid and solid manure, do you ever have to put actual fertilizer or urea on the fields?
Thank you for letting us be part of your journey of your farming life. I just caught up with your videos (started a few weeks ago with a video of january 2023)
Keep up the great content. En bedankt voor alles wat jij en je familie doen.
Can you please make a video of your fly controls
2:16 time for a new used tractor jan
I agree
👍❤️😊
👍👍❤🐮
Could you stick in a high pressure water hose with a big steel nozzle and stir up the sand , hopefully enough to get it pumping again?
Alot of the to jobs you do suck but you do it anyways, it is how you where raised, it's in you. Thank you AGAIN for helping to feed the world. Say hi to the boss man. 👍
Oi 👍👍👍👍👍👍🐂🐂🐂
Sheesh! Sh#t happens on the farm, all sorts of it! Good video. Hope things go better for you on the next one although this is educational.
🇨🇦😊
A tractor a tractor my kingdom for a tractor.
Jan, if you guys have such light soil and little moisture why don't you no till?
Just wondering why you don’t add a metal rail above that short concrete wall so cows won’t jump over it again
If the cords are not damaged on the air cart tire there is a place in stoon that can vulcanize it to repair
Try emptying the pit more frequently that way you don’t have issues like that again
A 1 more big tractor is needed ..
Time for a new tractor?
That just means that you need to put more weight on the front of the tractor or somehow figure out how to put more horsepower into the engine if that’s why you don’t use it on the feed wagon

Apparently she had no intention of being part of that group. And she must be pretty good at jumping walls and gates
How many cows are you milking daily Jan??
That number changes weekly. It's typically in the low to mid 300s. Their highest is around 360.
Where have u gone kid, any videos coming
Should be tomorrow
@@saskdutchkid good stuff
Brent camera shy?
buy an engine and mount it on the pump.

No guard on pump drive???? (8:30)
That tire is 4 grand

Doen jullie niet aan koningsdag? 😂😂
Maybe it’s time to invest in another tractor .
Shouldn’t the contractor that did your grain leg set it like you just mentioned.
