Funerals are sad, yes, until you attend a Military Funeral and hear Taps. My Dad is buried at Arlington. Section 59. This song breaks my heart. Miss you Dad xx
I learned how to play Taps on a toy trumpet when I was seven. Everyone thought it was "cute"....except the vets. They never smiled or laughed, they just bowed their heads, looked at the floor and listened. I couldn't understand why....until later.
The first time I ever heard TAPS was @ my brother's funeral in 1968...I was a senior in high school...he was killed in VietNam. I lose it every time I hear it. Takes me back to the day two soldiers knocked on the door to deliver the bad news...he was only 11 days shy of finishing his tour overseas. I'm Korean. And today is the 70th anniversary of the Korean War. I would like to sincerely appreciate to the Korean and UN veterans who willingly sacrificed their lives for the freedom of a country that no one knew. The freedom I enjoy today is because them were there. I'll live hard to make sure that their sacrifice is not in vain. Thank you so much.
40,000 Americans lost their lives in the Korean war, and a total of 150,000 UN coalition dead. A small price to pay for the Millions who enjoy freedoms who otherwise wouldn't have been able to today in South Korea.

Yesterday was my grandpa's funeral, he served in Vietnam years ago. He had been battling ALS for 16 months, what started as a tingling in his feet turned into him laying in his death bed, unable to move, only able to make a small grumbling. luckily, unlike many other people, he got to spend his last seconds on this earth with his family. We all knew his time was coming soon, he joked "everyone has their own expiration date!" He used to look around at all his family when they visited and he said, "I never knew this many people cared about me." Even laying on his death bed he joked to lighten the mood of everyone around, in a way my grandpa was outnumbered by all the women in his family, he used to say "I've got to get out of here!" My grandfather loved all the girls in our family, and he showed it. despite having little money he would buy his daughters new cars, despite the cars inevitable fates! laying in his death bed he couldn't hear very well and couldn't turn his head, so my grandma would tell him all the people who were there to see him, my grandma said "all the women are here to see you!" my grandpa with his hysterical sense of humor said in reply, "well, they must be pretty stupid." January 13th, 2:55 P.M. my grandfather could no longer swallow and mucus was building up in his throat and his voice and breathing had become a grumbling noise. At 2:55 he took his final breath, and went silent, his skin slowly became blue, and my grandmother, always by his side, broke down into tears and hugged him one final time. My grandmother was a true fighter as well, she had gone nights without sleep caring for him for 16 months. She went through what most people wouldn't be able to withstand. I and my family are glad that he is out of his pain. no matter what he was always in pain, from back pain to tail bone pain, he could never rest, but now he is at peace and is forever resting.

I just heard Taps being played in the cemetery across from my house. I know it’s a solemn song but it gives me so much peace and comfort. I remember they’d play it every night at 2100 at basic which signified bedtime, and it was just a beautiful, reminding lullaby.

They didn't protect America at all. They occupied a foreign country who didn't want them there to begin with. All respect to the men who died in a pointless war, but it could've been avoided.

Salute to the troops who perform this depressing task. I am humbled. I'm not looking forward to it, but I want it -- and I earned it. God bless America -- Army strong!
To my father who fought in World War 2, and my brother who fought in Desert Storm, and all the African Americans who fought for the building of this Grand Nation, the Tuskegee Airmen and all other brave soldiers in all branches of the Military....a HUGE THANK YOU. Your sacrifices are not forgotten ever by me!
Archonz _ I can relate 😭 I just had to see this happen today. Even though I barely knew my great grandpa, it was very hard for me to watch the military services.
Condolences for your loss! I worked with Marines, aka "devil dogs" and still do; I have the highest respect for them, and believe that their ceremonies are the sharpest of the entire America. May you find comfort in beautiful memories with your grandpa. Indeed, "taps" is touching a cord of anybody who knows the story of its creation and even more, of those with a heart and soul of patriots.
My grandfather passed 11 years ago. He served in world war 2 and was there at the dropping of Hiroshima. He is my hero to this day. I have his medals and badges and display them proudly on my shelf. I was only 3 when he died, I’m fourteen now. I never treated him right, I forced him to get out of his bed and cried to often. But he loved me, so much to the point he gave his footlocker to me and not his sons. I could never have asked for a better grandfather, god bless his soul. I have another grandfather who served in Vietnam and the police force. I show him as much respect as I can give. He was spit on and is still degraded to this day, but service is service. I hope to be a police officer one day.
I give the utmost respect to your grandfathers. God bless their and your family's souls. I also share your dream of being a Police Officer. I wish you luck.
my grandfather passed away january 2nd, 2021. it wasn’t until after his death that i found out he was in the air force when he was younger. at his funeral this was done as well and folding the american flag from his coffin. this alone was enough to make me cry like a baby 😭 i love you pop pop
I could handle the funeral, the procession, everything until Taps. My grandfather was island hopping in the south pacific and lived to 95. Love you, Gramps
Scottish bagpipes as well at funerals get you every time. My step grandpa was in ww2 so not even related but not gonna lie I had a tear come out while they were folding the flag and bag pipes played amazing grace.
" Taps" . The tune that still sheds tears when I think about SGT Robin Lynn Rodriguez ( My Wife) and PFC Christian Sean Tyler Rodriguez ( My Son) , who are no longer on Earth.😞😢😭🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🦅🗽

I'm born and raised in the military, i have heard this quite a few times. No matter how many times i hear it.........It brings a tear to my eye....every single time...... glad I searched for this Thanks for posting....... Remember 9/ 11
So much respect for you two! The one in the snow touched my soul! Thank you for doing this for them.. thank you for not forgetting them! Thank you for standing by them dead or alive in any weather!!!! God bless the world!!!!
Couldnt count how many times I heard this in the Marines but it still brings a tear to my eye. I couldnt imagin having such a solemn task as sounding taps in a military cemetery.
The grandfather of a close friend of mine fought in the Vietnam War too and was a heroic fighter for the freedom of his country. When we were younger he often told us stories about the war. One time one GI nearly killed him, but he gladly survived it:)
just lost my father-in-law John W. Savage this past Sunday October 4, 2015. He served in the Vietnam War as well. I thank God for this man as well the many others who fought and died for our country.
My good friend Cornelius recently passed away. It was a really tough passing but when this played at his funeral, it really hit me that he was gone forever. I love you Cornelius and I wish you the best in your next life. God Bless and RIP
Cornelius was a good man, a good friend, and an amazing performer. I still remember the shocked look on everyone's face when he landed his triple backflip, wearing that ridiculous jacket. He will be missed.
I just want to say i am grateful to all who have paid the ultimate price so that we may live in a better world. The courage, strength and perseverance of those who have fallen is unmatched. I have the utmost respect for you all.
R.I.P to the 90,000 Americans who died from the Corona Virus and to the 1,354,664 soldiers who died fighting for the United States in all wars from 1775 to 2019. Happy Memorial Day.
To all the men and women who are actively serving our country and to all our veterans, THANK YOU!!! Thank you for your service. I pray that we remember to uphold each other and remember the sacrifices they made so we could live free. We’ve become a divided nation. It saddens me. Let’s remember that we are all in this together. God bless America!!!
My grandpas funeral was yesterday and this was played as the marines folded the flag and presented it to my mom. I cried. It was the most beautiful thing ive ever seen
I was an altar boy serving at my grandpa’s funeral and I was crying the whole way through. Once the taps hit me everything came rushing out. Carrying that cross down, felt like an eternity. Knowing that my loving grandfather was in that casket shattered my heart. My mom came shortly after, and she asked me if I was ok. She said what’s the matter, and it all came rushing out. Appreciate your grandparents while you can. Any moment, that flesh can die.
While I was on the funeral team when I was in the army I had to present the flag to a widow... taps played and she was in tears... it took everything I had not to fall apart
my great grandfather served during World War 2 sadly he died long before I was born my grandfather served during the Vietnam War we can never understand the horrors they witness during battle but makes us respect them so much knowing that they fought through hell and came out hero's my condolences to the families of fallen soldiers they will never be forgotten
Spring heeled Jack My Dad was a WWII Vet, his Oldest Brother was Killed in Combat in Bataan Philippines, three day's before the Death March. He is listed MIA. May they all RIP.
My step Dad's funeral was today. Even though my real Dad was a great father who had passed when I was 14, I felt Henry deserve the title of just Dad as well. He came into our lives 3 years after and was great to my mother, brother and me. He had a gentle soul. I will miss him. Taps was played at his services today and gave me a sense of peace and closure. God bless and thank Henry..Dad...for 31 great, memorable years. Love your Son!
Fidelity ok I can understand what you’re saying and maybe this isn’t the right place to mourn but people really cared about him and you should respect their opinions to
This just brings tears to me everytime, I heard this at my great grandfathers funeral. He was a korean war veteran, I never stop thinking about him. Support our veterans!
My dad was a marine and every day he gets off of work he visits his fallen comrades that died by sacrificing their lives to get the squad out of there. GOD BLESS
I don't have any military experience nor have people I know who have die in combat. But this song still draws so much emotion from me. Thank you to all who fought for us.
I just want to say thank you both who have fallen and those who have survived for serving our country and for that I am forever grateful 🇺🇲 God Bless America
Only truly amazing trumpet/bugle players are able to keep such amazing tuning in snow like that. I love to listen to taps and I love the words that go with them to bad not more people know the words.
This always brings a tear to my eye. I see imagies of soldiers, from wars a hundred years ago to the present day. For the brave souls that went forward to do a job most of us could not. Upmost respect. RIP
This was played at my Dad’s military funeral on March 18th of this year. I cried then, and I cried just now. I have the feeling this will always be the case when I hear Taps. I miss you so much, Dad.
I recently visited the tomb of the unknown soldiers and when they play taps it is completely different in person than just hearing it in a video. If you ever have the chance you should go and listen to it. The feeling I got was incredible.
As i saw this video, my tears drop..I am a Filipino. I am proud of my grandfather who fought side by side with the US soldiers fighting the Japanese Army during WW2 until they surrendered in the Fall of Bataan- Philippines. He survived of the infamous DEATH MARCH until he reached Camp O' Donnel (Concentration Camp)..but sad to say he got sick until he died there and never saw his only son and at that time my father was still at the womb of my grandmother. I salute him for his sacrifice to serve our counrty and salute also to all the American soldiers who liberated our country.
Sorry about your grandfather, the Japanese were ruthless, I’m a bit of a historian and I’ve heard so man fucked up stories. Your grandad is a hero, always remember that.
My dad was never a big fan of all the ceremonial aspects of bein in the Army (22 year veteran, SFC, and prolly the best damn mechanic Fort Bliss ever saw) but I’ll be damned if there isn’t a live bugler to play Taps at his funeral. He says he doesn’t deserve a big fancy funeral and would rather be cremated and buried in a mason jar (his actual words) which I’m fine with honoring but god dammit after everything he’s done for this country and for this family he deserves so much more than a medal and a nice funeral.
+Dylan Baer same..? are you fucking kidding me??? can you at least have a little bit of common decency and fucking respect to actually say i do as well ATLEAST. even though this is the internet that is fucking retarded to put same. on a comment that honors the fallen shame on you.
I’ve played taps at two funerals. The grief of the family members is something else. But they also thank me, for coming to play taps for their loved one.
I was part of a millitary funeral when i was in the army. I saw first hand how the army took care of an old fellow who had died and his family. Sure its sad when a loved one is lost, but know this the army if you served will be there. Now in my opinion that should happen for any man or woman who was in combat at the front line or behind it. Regardless when you hear millitary taps it sends a cold chill over you each time. At least it should. Thank you to all who served for our country for our freedom's.💝💝💝🗽
When I was a teenager, my Grandpop died. He was a WWI vet(77th division). It was a sad time and I remember my uncle missing a note playing taps. But when my Pop and 8 of my uncles died in one year (7 in military cemeteries) that Taps meant a lot more. A few years ago, my cousin found letters that my Grandpa wrote when his 3 sons were in the service. We had no idea of what he went through till we read those letters. Taps to me means, remembering all the good times with my Pop, Grandpop and all my uncles. And am grateful they made it through!
My grandfather who served in WWII passed away this past September and while we stood there in silence and I heard the bugle start to play taps, tears started to fill my eyes behind my sunglasses. It's such a beautiful song but at the same time it's meaning is heartbreaking
I will never forget the time I went to Arlington. The fallen will always be remembered. May their heroic act to protect us and our freedom never be forgotten. May they rest in peace
Every single time I hear this it just tears me up inside. It's the most beautiful, the most haunting thing I've ever heard. God bless our fallen men and women.

Such a sad and lonely piece, but I love it, my great grandad died a few years back, I miss him dearly. He fought in WWII, France and the surrounding areas, when he died, he didn’t want a military funeral, all he wanted was a quiet grave, and I respect him for that. He was a great man and my inspiration for learning about the weapons and history of WWII and the era. Miss you Papa Ray.
My grandfather was also a wwII vet, he was a funny guy, he used to say the devils got him by the toe before he died. Funny guy honestly, no filter but hilarious
GOD Bless every man an woman that served this country. Thank you all very much. Freedom is not free. I sleep in my bed safe tonight because of the brave soul's that fought.
A melody that held up through hundreds of years. A song that is played throughout the world. Cold feet is what i get playing it. Even after all these years.

Safe in sleep.

Must thou go,
When the day,
And the night
Need thee so?
All is well.

Taps in the snow took me back to a time I'd almost forgotten
I was an altar boy serving at my grandpa’s funeral and I was crying the whole way through. Once the taps hit me everything came rushing out. Carrying that cross down, felt like an eternity. Knowing that my loving grandfather was in that casket shattered my heart. My mom came shortly after, and she asked me if I was ok. She said what’s the matter, and it all came rushing out. Appreciate your grandparents while you can. Any moment, that flesh can die.

God bless, Sir.
God, how can a short song with no words be so emotional? Hearing this song makes me tear up. Thank you, all who have served.

Such a beautiful powerful song! Always and never forget the fallen.
My heart broke when I heard the "Taps" of the trumpet before my great grandfather was laid to rest a few months ago. Missing my great-grandfather.
